Ill state the obvious, because Floyd asking OST is not about changing the sport. But if Manny does not call out Floyd or do OST on his next fight there would be things running on my mind, but what do i know, I am no insider or OST expert like some posters here.
As a Mayweather fan, I do agree that they dropped the ball big time on this. I mean 18 days out? Atleast go to 10 to say you went under the 14 that Pac wanted or go to single digits. I know its not under Mayweather's or GBP's control but Tygart & USADA are idiots for that. To me it caused them to look slick & they lost some credibility.
If you say that saw no reason to test further then what will you say about the Pac fight? If he passes all his test 18 days out then how can you go further? The critics will ask what did you see to make you want to test Pac further?
Luckily for Floyd they have the Ortiz fight 1st and they should go down further but then it will still look pretty shady like Floyd, GBP, & Tygart are in it together and they wanted to inch it closer in each fight.
Like Floyd was worried about the testing effecting him in the ring also so they stopped the Mosley testing at 18 days, then they will stop the Ortiz testing at 7, and then the Pac fight will go all the way until a day before or so. It just doesnt look right.
With that being said, none of that still really matters in the end. Either you pass the test or you dont and everything they do has to be on record so they cant test Pac an abnormal amount of times compared to Floyd or everyone will rip them. They will be fair to Pac because they know "everyone" is watching this and it will be a stain on them forever if they screw it up
Thats the suspicious thing, Manny ask for 21 days cut off of blood testing but urine all the way and blood testing on the day of the fight, but they did not agree because the window to cheat is very high and PEDS could magically do wonder on so short of time and it could be cycled in less than 24 hours. But on the May-Mosley Fight it was 18 days blood cut off and urine all the ways unless there are suspicions on the urine??????? USADA screwed this one big time
They still urine tested after the 18 days and it was a deterrent. The fighters didn't know they weren't going to get tested. Why take steroids when you have that program in place
Almost as the same as what Pac's camp wanted in the first negotations, 21 days cut off urine test afterwards, and another blood test after the fight
Started in the 80s after the Ray Mancini-Duk Koo Kim fight to help the fighters rehydrate properly.
Which one would you favor same day weigh-in or a day before and why? Would you consider cutting weight as much a part of a fighter's skill set?
No, losing weight is not a skill.
"Damn Son, look at that boy, losing weight like a motherphucker, Pound 4 Pound baby, pound for pound!"
Good point that made me laugh. But what i meant is it is a must because of the a day before weigh-in, u can rehydrate and that would be one big advantage.
A lot of people complain that some boxer rehydrate a lot of weight during the fight . Are they being weigh the same during the fight and the weigh-in before the fight? Or when they are weigh during the fight shoes, robes, gloves are on?
Cotto has showen that he can keep up with fast fighters
Alot of people have put Pac on a high pedistal after his last two easy victories. Like he aint ever gonna lose a round again or struggle in a fight unless it's Floyd.
Cotto has timing and accuracy and has shown that he can land on fast fighters (Malignaggie, Quintana, Judah, Mosley).
Mosley and Quintana are not as fast as Pac but i'm pretty sure we all can agree that they have more ability combined with their size. One guy (Mosley) just shit on Margarito and the other outboxed Williams for 12 rounds, landing on him all night. Just to give some contest on what kinda fighters Cotto beat.
And now he is supposed to get destroyed by a 5'6 lightweight with speed and power like Cotto hasn't seen anything like that before. Like Pac's speed is other worldly. Pleaze!!!!
Boxing fans have short term memory. Just because Cotto looked bad against Margarito and Clottey doesn't mean a thing. Remember B-Hop losing to Calzaghe and everybody picking to get beaten or maybe even Ko'd by Pavlik - who was on a hot streak.
Remember Mosley struggling with a washed up Mayorga and everybody not even thinking about him beating Margarito. Like it was a tune up fight for the Cotto rematch.
I can go on and on......Pacman isn't unbeatable.
Good points. I believe Cotto should be favored whatever weight is agreed upon.
Marvin Sonsona by UD with 114-111 115-110 116-109... Youngest Filipino Champion. Props to Carita the score didnt show the real fight. Sansona needs to improve his stamina and throw some jabs.
ummm....he made it for Oscar...he couldve done it for COtto..but he didnt want to fight Cotto at 100%.Cuz Cotto wouldve completely over powered him.
He weight 142 for the official weigh in. But if i were to choose he should have just fought Cotto at 147
dont they weight in a the same place?? so if the platform is not balance then it would be for both fighter. its not like manny gets nake for the weight in. he got clothes and most likely the other fighter do to
Thats my point, we don't know. I have ask this question a number of times on different forum even here in BS, but nobody knows how they are weigh. So are we gonna assume?
but why complain about cotto rehydrating to 160 pound when your fighter rehydrate 14-16 pounds
don't throw rocks if you live in a glass house
Cotto does'nt even allow fight night weigh-in but thats not the issue, Cotto has been Welterweight for a long time, and Pacquiao's exhibition at welterweight he weigh-in at 142 at the official weigh-in.
why cant we assume with pacquiao when we have an unofficial weight in but people are quick to assume cotto's weight when we dont get an unofficial weight in?
Thats what I've been saying. I even ask that question when the Mayweather fans where saying Cotto would hydrate too much weigh and saying it like it is an absolute fact, all we can do is assume. But on this fight Cotto would have the advantage on size based on that he have multiple fights at Welterweight so he would be more comfortable and this is only Pacquiao's 3rd fight above 135. Skills and Determination win fight not weight, thats why I hate it that they made this a catchweight.
Pacquiao rarely faces bigger opponents. Most of the time, Pacquiao has been the bigger guy.
Post pics or articles where Pacquiao was the bigger guy? And don't give me the unofficial weigh in unless you are gonna explain how they are weigh in.
how else do you think they do the unofficial weight in?/??
i think it could be a scale??
lol... nice try... but are there officials at the weigh in? are they weigh on there clothes? with jewelries? is the place where the weigh in done on a balance platorm? So many things to consider, and I'm not sure but on one forum they even said some fighter's like to weigh more than there actual weigh to have a mental advantage...
... On how Pacquiao could beat Cotto, they are hoping and praying he is shot and are basing Pacquiao beating Cotto on how Pacquiao looked in the Pacquiao - Hatton fight and how Cotto looked in the Cotto-Clottey fight, let me start by saying, Hatton nor Clottey has the style of Cotto or Pacquiao, respectively, Pacquiao's defense is not as great as Clottey nor does Cotto fight anything at all like Hatton, he doesn't bounce around throwing one punch at a time like Hatton does, Cotto is a combination puncher, and his handspeed is underrated, Pacquiao will use a gameplan similar to the one he used with De La Hoya, using the lateral movements, and coming in and out, let me remind you of how well Cotto cuts off the ring and how he times he's opponents with his jab, right hand and left hook combination, or other combinations he uses, Cotto has shown he can work with speed as evidenced in the Judah and Mosley fights, now Roach says that he is going to find trends in Cotto style the same as he did with Hatton, the only trend that Cotto has is that when he has his opponents hurts he lowers his hands grasps for air and then hits his opponents with anything, I doubt that when he hurts Pacquiao, Pacquiao will want to try to land something, Cotto fights each fight differently and his combinations are not repetitive hence he doesn't have any trends. Now keep praying Cotto is shot but I mean shot to hell because that's the only way Pacquiao will do something./QUOTE]
All i see is an advance excuse... lol
Seriously, Mayweather has 1 inch on him and 4lbs. Pacquiao is all about staying in the lower weight divisions, then balooning up to almost Welterweight size before he has to fight somebody. He's completely content to avoid the Welterweight division (a division he could easily make) altogether.
I can't say I blame him either, I'd rather stay below Welterweight and fight a bunch of retiring legends and overhyped prospects until I retire too. It beats having to step in the ring with serious threats and risk the dreams of an entire Nation.
Here's Pacquiao's reaction if he ever finds out he must face Mayweather......
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/9872/pacquiaokp9.jpg
If Pacquiao was afraid of facing Mayweather why would he publicly announce numerous times he wants to fight Mayweather.... If Mayweather wanted Pacquiao why announce a fight a day before Pac-Hatton... Who's ducking who? (2 years ago or not the hate is clear... baiting? clearly hating)
1.) When did Manny ever publicly announce that he wanted to fight Floyd even once? Get me something. A real article with a real source. And not mindless Freddie Roach blabber about knocking Floyd out.
To my knowledge ; Manny's never even once let Floyd's name cross his lips.
2.) Floyd needs a tuneup, obviously. Nobody comes off a damn near 2 year layoff and gets in the ring with the #1 fighter in the world right now, that's retarded.
And he announced the day before Manny/Ricky in order to get his name back out there and take some of the spotlight off of Manny and Ricky and shift it back where he wants it ; himself.
1. A simple google will show articles of different date stating how pacquiao wants to face Mayweather in a fight. The video pink posted even made a few thread in BS about how Manny wanted the one who talks a lot referring to Floyd.
2.I just said that, to show how easy it is to say someone is ducking somebody when in reality they are not. Leave the ducking word to the other poster, you are way better than that. Baiting or not.
It was in the news for sure. OP isn't lying about that. The question is, did the conversation really take place?
I immediately log in to boxingscene to see if May have said something about it, and was suprise to find nothing.
Not for nothing, but my wife is Pinoy and I always bust on her saying that Pinoy's have nothing that's original but their food. Everything is copied. LOL!!!
Even our food is copied....
