Its called contract law. FM still had to pay the $750k to get out of his court. Any dispute regarding what BA may have owed him is separate and can be contested. FM just couldn't deduct what he thought he was owed and pay that. For example, if you have a dispute with your mortgage company or landlord, try to deduct it from you payment and see what happens.

Pacquiao fought anyone put in front of him, he didn't make decisions for himself. Floyd could make his own decisions after the DLH fight and didn't target the fighters I mentioned, he targeted lower ranked fighters.
MP could make decisions for himself. He is just confused on how the fighter/promoter relationship is supposed to work. He doesn't get any credit for not taking control of his career. It was arum, that keep a prime Cotto from Floyd when they were in the same stable. In regards to Williams, he wouldn't have drawn as much money as the opponents Floyd did fight. But regardless of that, after Floyd beat Oscar, Williams lost to Quintana. After getting revenge for that loss and building himself back up, he faced Serge. A convincing win over Martinez would have put him in the Floyd conversation but that didn't happen. In regards to Serge, he was fighting at a higher weight and their was no financial reason why FM would move up to fight him.

Showtime does not demand the same quality matchup and opponents as HBO. Most of their fights are to showcase a star against a picked but not to dangerous opponent. It is the main reason some fighters have left HBO and the money they pay.. Hopefully they learn fans are interested in competitive matchups more than they are in just name stars padding their record.
