according to NBC's twitter the overnights averaged a rating of 2.5 peaking at 3.1 and won the 18-40 demographic for the night. It was also the most watched sport event on the weekend.
I'm not sure what the rating point equals but UFC on FOX 14 pulled a 1.4 rating point and that was 2.5 million people. UFC on FOX won pulled 5.7 million with a 4.0 rating point. These are also only overnights so they will likely be higher when they are fully counted tomorrow.
This is just a guess but if that is indeed just the rating point and not the actual number in millions then the over nights are probably at 4-5 million. If that is the case the full count might be 6 million. But that's only if it matches up with the UFC ratings. I don't really know.
NBCS
Overnight rating for PBC on NBC increased every half hour & peaked at 3.01 from 10:30-11pm ET for final 6 rounds of Thurman-Guerrero bout
Premier Boxing Champions debut show led NBC to broadcast primetime victory in Adults 18-49.
UFC on FOX deal was about capitalizING on the momentum the UFC had going at that time. Boxing NBC deal is about getting people to start tuning back into boxing. It's a good starting point for making a comparison but not an end all be all.
Thank you! Someone with common fucking sense.
This isn't about Haymon or Duva or GBP or anyone but the sport as a whole. It has to start somewhere and I think it's an optimistic start considering boxing stopped being as popular as it once was.
That'd be the obvious way to go, imho.
Still, 'looking at things from 30,000 feet', if Haymon is able to grow the audience for the PBC primetime shows from 3m to 4m-5m (or even larger, if that's possible for Saturday nights), why drastically alter the deal?
The initial deal runs it's course and Haymon negotiates to buy 10-12 primetime dates instead of just 5 (same terms get worked out for the network getting to sell the ads for all of the support programming). Instead of getting 20 dates for $20m, he gets 40 dates for $25m-$30m.
Selling the ads through his own company would be extra work, but Haymon has shown himself to be more than willing to chase down every dollar.
Would definitely raise the price commanded for Haymon to go along with a UFC-type content deal.
Well, the intent is certainly to "grow" the audience, but they spent $5 million on the NBC/NBCSN fight card.
If you compare that to the UFC, which is the model they supposedly want to emulate, Molina's purse ($450k) cost more than the entire main event of UFC on FOX 1 main event between Dos Santos and Velasquez ($430k).
It's much more expensive for Haymon to put boxing on NBC than it is for the UFC to put MMA on FOX...and they didn't do as good of ratings.
So it will be interesting to see how the future purses compare to this initial cards.
Man, I don't even recognize hanzgrubers posts anymore since he doesn't have Ruslan looking like a mentally handicapped person as his avi anymore, it's crazy.
Lol don't worry it'll be back up soon :boxing:
It's definitely interesting, my question is why do so many people want to watch guys who aren't the finished article and might never make it?
It's seems like watching under-21 youth football/soccer or amateur boxing tournaments capturing the masses.
Part of the reason people watch college football...the sport has built-in fan bases (made up of students and graduates).
Corona seems to be a big time sponsor of the venture
According to David Greissman's article, and others, Corona was one of a very small few big sponsors for the PBC card.

I think Gruber changed it because he's scared Matthysse is going to beat him.
He's already been banned for racism before. Hell hate even if floyd was on nbc

lol, the desperation of folks who seem bent on wishing Haymon ill is hilarious.
The man already fronted all of the money for the TV dates; to that, you can also add that the telecast was able to consistently grow the audience over the full two and a half hours, peaking out at over 4.5m viewers (just in time to catch the hottest six round stretch of the entire broadcast).
Corona seems to be a big time sponsor of the venture, and it's looking like the advertisers may have found a ratings hit for the night, in the only demo that they really care about.
honestly hope you're just trying to troll, because it's going to be real touch/go when the Barclays show grows the rating next month, not to mention how distraught things will get when Haymon puts an American heavyweight champion back on primetime network TV. lol

the ratings were solid and, most importantly, Thurman looked liked the next big thing. his next fight will be must see tv (nbc pun intended) to those folks that saw him for the first time last night. like every new show, its about building your audience.
College Football in the U.S. has stadiums that seat over 100,000. It is the third largest sport in the country and is a billion dollar industry.

University basketball is very popular in the USA with certain demographics and Duke is a popular school so it's great that boxing outdid it.
I personally can't stand College sports, give me pro sports, I want to see the best.
It's just such a different sporting culture from here, you might get 30 people at a University sports match in the UK, no TV cameras and maybe an small article in the paper.
I thought it was about getting a UFC-like tv deal.
That'd be the obvious way to go, imho.

that's actually bad numbers very bad considering how much has been invested.
NBC going to ditch this PBC circus act and throw haymon on the curb. haymon can't keep paying his fighters millions to fight mediocre fights that no one cares about.

The numbers are pretty good for just starting. I just hope they get rid of the commentators and bring in other ones. Watching it last night felt very flat. I am not even sure if it was the commentators. The crowd was actually too quiet. It just seemed weird. It should get better with each broadcast though.
The crowd did suck.

That's the whole point moron more people were able to watch the sport than normal that's great for boxing hopefully we can add and make some real boxing fans and not f.ags like u!
After them watching that broner molina fight i doubt they going to be fans of boxing.
The broner molina fight is probably what made viewers not stick around.
that's because HBO is a premium channel you dunce and so not everyone has it. but anyone and their mother can watch NBC and yet it only pulls 3million on its debut???? that is extremely poor. like i said, re-runs of mediocre shows pull more viewership.
Yea man if they don't get 10 mil might as quit pbc and act like it never happened
3.1 seems pretty decent, probably would've been more if it wasn't for Broner-Molina. What a horrible way to start a new venture.
I'd expect Duva to be a bit salty, Haymon ruined the Stevenson fight and then bought her NBC spot. Can hardly blame her.
Just to be clear, that is University Basketball?
All of this, Thurman seized the moment.
Yea biggest college ball rivalry

Let's wait till tomorrow to see the real numbers over nights are slats low. I think 3m staying from scratch with essentially unknown boxers is good.
What's really good about this number. It got bigger all the way through.which means people wanted to tune in after hearing people talk about it.
Another note: The calculators only gave boxing a 1.2 viewers per household figure. That's eventually low on the Grand scale of things.
