IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15KOs) is getting ready for his anticipated return, a mandatory defense of his title against undefeated challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22KOs). The fight will potentially happen on a date in early August, reportedly as the main event of a Showtime televised tripleheader from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
While Porter's last few fights have been promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, he does not have a promotional contract with their company. Golden Boy is currently restructuring their company and there is a lot of controversy regarding the number of fighters, managed or advised by Al Haymon, who are fighting under the Golden Boy banner but don't have actual contracts which bind them to Golden Boy.
"[That drama] means nothing to me. I stay on the outside of it. My dad handles the business, I don't need to involve myself in any of that. Right now I don't have an allegiance to anyone but Al Haymon. I am an Al Haymon fighter and I have my own promotional company, Shawn Porter Promotions. Eventually we will get that going, but right now Golden Boy is doing my promotions," Porter said.
