No idea how he can go toe to toe with Benavidez then get stopped by a school teacher. Boxing is wild. Morrell is definitely one of the strangest fighters in recent times. Has it all but sort of sucks.
Styles make fights. Benavidez forced him to fight for his life.
I think what he failed to do is timing Fabio when he leans his head on the right when ducking. DDD should have capitalized on it with left hooks. Other fighters would have noticed and timed it perfectly.
Good to see him fall back down to earth. He's been doing this showboating nonsense thinking he's elite.
This is what happens when you're fed with a long list of cab drivers. You and everyone else think you're special.
I don't think Showtime even made financial gains on those Mayweather fights. They may even lost money. You know Floyd. You're not supposed to make money off of Floyd's fights. You get crumbs or small change. And he gets all the money. I don't even understand why he's suing when he signed a contract with specific amount covering five fights or something.
I remember Spinoza explaining the deal saying it's not about the money for Showtime. It's about enhancing the network's image, attract subscribers. They ended up getting bought by Paramount and their boxing sports getting dismantled.
So have the Charlos retired? Doesn't make sense asking for tuneups at this late stage of their careers getting paid peanuts. Granting they get their tuneup fights, then what? Spend another year for the next fight?
What other sport (besides combat) can you be ridiculed on your way out of the arena while being hurt, battered, concussed, or stretched? Imagine that, fighting for your life, genuinely giving it your all and having thousands who previously adulated you turn on a dime and ridicule you as you’re getting your clock cleaned…it’s not the pain so much, but rather being metaphorically undressed and not being able to do anything about it. And if you pull the plug (as say Nicholas Walters Guillermo Rigondeaux did against Loma), you will never hear the end of it.
Real fighters don't have that kind of mindset. They think in terms of winning, being crafty, tricky, able to inflict damage, etc.
Otherwise, you don't belong in the sport with that kind of mentality. Go get a regular job and don't even think of contact sports as a profession.
it's a huge ripoff if all pbf (p*ssy boy floyd) could do is survive, run, potshot, hold, run, survive... he's supposed to entertain the crowd.
don't know why people are willing to reward this guy $100 million for something even lara can do.
I don't see any of their semi or big ticket guys complaining or scrambling to get out. Charlos 1 and 2, Spence, Thurman, Adames, Lara, Garcia, Figueroa, Fulton, Plant, Tank, De Los Santos, LSC seems retired, etc. They're still happy enjoying their vacation. It's a mysterious place no media can get access to. If this is MR, TR, GBP, every Youtube clickbaiter would have something to come up with. They're open book compared to PBC led by a mysterious man.
There's just so many sports for people to choose from. Boxing is just a tiny boat floating on a vast ocean filled with cargo ships and liners. It's true those who watch boxing are die-hards and passionate about the sport. But they're tiny compared to the overall number of other sports enthusiasts. Who would have thought volleyball, for instance, would be resurrected and would become regular on tv or live streaming?
Number of boxing fans neither grow nor shrink. They watch PPVs by any means or non-PPVs equally. Of course there are biases in the media and the way they cover it. Loma vs Haney, for example, is the same size as any PPV card. It's not smaller or bigger to a boxing fan. That's why PPV numbers can't be taken seriously. They're all manufactured and exaggerated. The Garcia vs Haney was expected to do 2 million PPV buys due to the endless controversies from day one to post fight. Yet no official number got associated with it.
That's why it's no surprise why some in the media would rather do fake news than say the truth. Fat Dan, for example, had no PPV figures in the Garcia/Haney fight, yet readily came up with one in the Tank/Martin fight. How does that even make sense? Every time Ryin Garcia came out -- did or say anything, it went viral in the media. How much more publicity good or bad promoters or fighters have to do to promote a fight? Yet Fat Dan basically says Tank/Martin did better than the Garcia/Haney fight? See how fkd-up this sport is? It's full of liars. They should not come up with any number at all, and fans shouldn't even care at all. How many times do they have to say most people would rather watch fights for free? You'd be lucky to get 100K buys these days, and such numbers are impossible to attain.
Showtime's Espinoza eventually got sick and tired of people asking about the PPV numbers, and announced they're no longer releasing any. And that was years ago when the use of cable was still widespread. But dishonest people in the media still had to come up with their manufactured and exaggerated figures.
Bottom line is people need to stop asking about PPV numbers. None of them can be confirmed. They're all made up. Some even suggested Tank/Martin did better than the Garcia/Haney fight. Something like 200K for the Haney/Garcia fight and 300-350K for the Martin/Tank fight, according to Fat Dan. How in hell could that happen? That's why people need to do simple math and use common sense.... This article itself attributes it to piracy, but then dismantles it by blaming it's because it's Bud in the main card. He should be blaming his fellow writers for exaggerating previous numbers. They're all fake. There is a certain group that is biased towards a particular platform. MR, TR, GBP, DAZN are all fair game to this group.
I can't wrap my head around it either. How in the world a fight (Garcia-Haney) full of controversies that reached every corner of the earth not have a single PPV number associated with it, while a relatively low profile fight between Tank and Martin did? They want us to believe all those controversies from start to finish; Garcia behaving mentally deranged, his tons of confrontations with Haney, etc. did nothing to drive up the PPV attraction. I thought what more publicity, good or bad, do any promoter of fighter have to come up with to sell a fight? I've never seen any fight where no celebrity, most of them only known to a few, didn't chime in what they thought about the fight, Garcia's behavior, whether it's fake or real, etc. And when I logged in to Youtube every link in the page was about the fight. It got even bigger after the fight and went weeks before it subsided.
Then later we had a relatively low profile fight between Tank and Martin, whom casuals have never heard of, they want us to believe it did better numbers? It does seem like there is some paranormal activity going on that we can't see manipulating narratives. Can we have an article about this from Iole?
Don't know if Valenzuela can go back down to 135. He's tall and suits him well at 140. And there are lots of established fighters in this division to choose from. It doesn't have to be against the top guys and fans would still be intrigued. There's Jose Ramirez, Puello, Sandor Martin, Jamaine Ortiz, Matias, Paro, Haney, Prograis, Catterall, Taylor...
The 140 division is deep. I can watch any matchup among any of those you mentioned. Haney vs Jose Ramirez would be epic.
Dana Whyte even sued Espinoza for allegedly lying about the numbers. He was conditioned to believe the 1 mil PPVs regularly released in boxing. Apparently, he had distribution rights in the McGregor/Mayweather fight and questioned why only few were buying. Haha... He's now skeptical of every PPV number boxing comes up with. He knows how hard it is to sell PPVs.
Garcia and Haney were crying about not getting paid by GBP, which Oscar vehemently denied on video. They were referring to the PPV upsides they expected to be massive. Seems most people watched it for free. At least not many fans were that curious about their numbers, unlike some folks who still believe in huge PPV numbers.
Davis has never shown any interest in fighting Lomachenko even when he parted ways with Mayweather, who left a script for him to follow. At first I thought he didn't like the criticisms against him for not fighting the top guys in his division.
He's probably not making money as a TMT promoter. That's why I don't fully buy this narrative about promoters making so much money. Maybe in the past, but nowadays I think they just break even.
lol, wtf.
Yeah, I added that second paragraph as a counter to "why didn't his opponents do the same, what kept them from rehydrating to high levels like he does?"
Saul Alvarez is very rich, got prime properties in the US and Mexico and probably can buy more, yet he still keeps on fighting and making money. And he's saying he'll stay around for a long while.
Good point.
No one really gives a fudge about Charlo as exemplified by the first reply knowing that Madrimov/Crawford fight will still have to take place 3 long months from now. Then by the time Crawford/Madrimov winner is ready for his next fight, Charlo would have been approaching 2 year layoff. So fans don't really care fighters waiting around.
You folks take this sport way too seriously. It's not even a real sport. It's entertainment. It's not like tennis in which players don't get to pick and choose who they want to compete with. And they compete in as many tournaments as possible in a year. In boxing fighters get to pick and choose whoever is agreeable to your and his demands. Most of them fight once a year. Big fights only happen when conditions are met by both parties. There's no such thing in other sports.
He dehydrates himself almost 30 lbs and then rehydrates himself 30lbs immediately after.
So Haney's walking weight in between fights is 170lbs. Even if he moves up to 154 he still have to lose 16lbs. I see.
The size difference in the Prograis/Haney fight was apparent. Regis fans or anti-Haneys banked on so-called Regis' "power" to beat Haney, but this time his opponent was bigger. He was being punched like rag-doll in that fight.
Now, people have different body types. Some rehydrates quickly, but some don't like Regis. I'd predict he will stay at 140 for the rest of his career because he's got a small body frame like many people do, unless the normal process of aging takes over. Like one of my uncles, for example, who wanted so much to gain weight and build muscles. But no matter how much food he takes the needed bulk wasn't being achieved. He looked like a frog, instead.
You gotta be a complete idiot to believe such nonsense. All you need to do is listen to Bozy Ennis on Youtube and see if Ennis wants that number of fights. Each time a Youtuber suggests a name Bozy immediately shuts it down and don't want to talk. Youtubers have suggested Kavaliauskas, Avanesyan, Stanionis, Cobbs, you name it Ennis team rejects it.
3-4 fights a year... it's all BS.
