Morrell has a lot of raw potential but his team doesn't look after him. Instead of building him brick by brick they throw him in the ring with Benavidez on his 12th fight. I know he has a lot of amateur experience but he needed moviebox app more time at the pro level before he started fighting top competition. I think he can still do it but he needs to hit the restart button and get rid of his team.
He's also too flashy in the ring. When he needs to bite down onto his mouthpiece and go to work.
Morrell just got stopped! In a sudden shift of momentum, Morrell’s blistering run came to an abrupt halt as the defense read his move perfectly, closing the gap in an instant and forcing him to retreat. What had looked like a promising breakthrough fizzled out under intense pressure, leaving teammates and fans alike holding their breath.
Styles make fights. Benavidez forced him to fight for his life.
Yeah, boxing is like chess sometimes. In chess you make more so-called blunders playing against a low-level opponent than with an A-level chess player.
Morrell is not shot - Morrell was was a guy that had been built up well but had never faced a B- or even C+ level guy in his career (outside of Benavidez).
Dude was built up to be cashed in. The ranked guys he beat have done nothing since he beat them because they too were built up to be cashed in.
Many such cases.
Didnt many of you put this guy on a pedestal talking about how he is the next big thing, the guy who will beat Benavidez yada yada lol buncha casual ass mfs.

No idea how he can go toe to toe with Benavidez then get stopped by a school teacher. Boxing is wild. Morrell is definitely one of the strangest fighters in recent times. Has it all but sort of sucks.Cuban Dave took 4 or 5 rounds against Fat Dave but spent much of the time fighting Fat Dave's fight
all those body shots were wear & tear
Fat Dave fight ruined Cuban Dave's counterpunching ability
he went from rocking Fat Dave with counter right hooks twice or thrice to being unable to counter some random brit
I'd say there's between a good 0 and 0.00001% chance that fight ever happens.
I dunno, the landscape in boxing changes like the wind. Look where Dubois was a few years back after losing to Joyce and then Usyk. Morrell's still pretty young and has a decent profile, there's always a way back.
Call me crazy but I still believe Smith is a very winnable fight for him. He gave a good account himself against Benavidez and probably could have boxed his way to decision win the other night had he adopted a more safety-first mindset in the final couple of rounds. We'll see whether Turki still wants him.

He just needs a new team. Someone who knows how to build a fighter from scratch and he can slowly rise through the rankings. He has all of the tools in the toolbox but you have to put everything together. I question if his corner knew what they were doing. If they were giving him good instructions then he wasn't listening or they didn't have a good game plan. I know his manager was much more interested in making a buck or two than seeing him succeed. He has way too much raw potential to go wasted. Another thing, he tries to dazzle the crowd and seems more interested in looking good than winning the fight. He has to cut that s h i t out if he wants to improve.

Or maybe he was never good? Lmfao you losers hyped him up cause the medals and being Cuban so he was some A level talent. The guy had like 5 fights against nobodies lmfao
He was trash and hes your daddy's top three wins for elbowvidez :rofl:

Even though he lost most of the rounds I was surprised at how easily he blunted Morrells offense. He (Morrell) never landed with regularity or landed anything big really did he?
Only 28 but for me, he is done. His talent was never a question but he's genuinely one of the dumbest fighters I can recall. I don't know how you come out of the Cuban system with 150 amateur fights, win two titles yet somehow have no ring IQ?
I think he almost has all the tools he just has no idea wtf he is doing with them, its bizarre.
He should be using his feet & working behind the jab instead he's up close doing the Ali shuffle or has his ear muffs on and is stood inviting David Benavidez of all motherfvckers to unleash a 19 punch combination on his completely exposed face he is sticking out there. Is he genuinely r3t4rded or something?
Ultimately, Morrell has been mismanaged, and I don't necessarily think he should have left 168 on the chase for Benavidez.
In boxing terms, he's still relatively young so he has a fair chance at rebuilding. But, I think he needs to sit down and contemplate a new team, strategy, and developing discipline. Dude has all the talent and athleticism in the world but is too "dumb" for his own good. I will be rooting for him.
I rewatched the Kataev fight. I don't think he lost that. He came back from the KD and beat the hell out of Imam, with the latter's biggest punches blocked.speaking of Imam he needs to fight again too

I'd still like to see him in with Callum Smith though.
Smith would even do it better than Chelli. I don't think Morrell could handle Callum's combo counters. Chelli's powerful, single flying punches are what did it for the English boxer.
Holy s**t. He was clean out, too.
I thought Morrell lost to Khataev, but I never would have predicted him to get left slumped by a British-level fighter. I'd still like to see him in with Callum Smith though.

Those last few shots that were landed when Morrell was out on his feet might be career altering
I remember when James Kirkland landed those two shots on Glen Tapia when he was out on his feet....dude was never the same afterwards
