100% agree. The HBO crew is so ridiculously biased when it comes to Pacquiao fights. Max Kellerman sometimes speaks up to bring them a little closer to reality but for the most part it is just round after round of ass kissing.
Secondly, I have serious issues with Compubox in general, but during Floyd and Pacquiao fights the punch stats are just so out of whack it makes me wonder what the deal is.
That being said, I had this fight 116-112 for Pac and I could see a 115-113 or a 117-111 because there were a few close rounds
Arum told Marquez no hard feelings its just business after the third fight.
Also the betting line was 6 to 1 if you bet on bradley to win.
Thats big money, and Arum has ties to powerful politicians in the liberal democrat party like harry reid. I also heard Arum picked the judges?
LOL so Harry Reid and the Democrats were behind this? Pacquiao fans have always been hilarious but this has taken it to new heights
the reason floyd didn't get FOD was his relatively weak opposition and inactivity. He didnt fight any elite level fighters from 2003-2006 (except zab, who was coming off of a loss to baldomir). He took 2008 off as well and fought really infrequently in the second half of the decade.
Pac just had a better resume, even though he took an L to Erik Morales and in many people's eyes lost to JMM in their 2nd fight.
Martinez is a bum who beat a drunk and threw a lucky punch. He hasn't fought anybody and, if he ever steps to Chavez, he'll be in hospital for months.
Martinez won't though, and the reason why is actually very simple, it's because he's one big piece of chicken shit
so how long have you been jr's fluffer? :la:
Met Alfredo Angulo, super serious just like he seems but also polite. Took a lot of pictures with fans and shook everyone's hand as they came up to him.
Margarito was really friendly too, he wanted to get to his seat for the Rios Antillon fight but he stopped and a took a picture with a dude in a wheelchair.
I met Buddy McGirt and he actually said what's up to me before I realized who he was. He asked me if I was from Brooklyn because of a shirt I had on. (I'm not lol) He seemed really cool.
Gesta is a nobody and has not accomplished anything. Let him beat Katsidis or Lundy or Molina if he wants a shot at an elite fighter. He better learn how to move his head before he steps up to that level though.
If they want to compare to the names you mentioned, they both definitely need the fight. They will be remembered as two of the best in our era regardless but people will also take their cherrypicking into consideration when comparing them to fighters of other eras.
I love all the names that people have brought up for Cotto, but not mentioned any of the others for Marquez.
Either way, Manuel Medina is greater than Katsidis and Juarez by a mile and better than just about anyone on Cotto's resume not named Mosley. He's a 6 time champ and FW great. What about Smoke Gainer?
Orlando Salido?
Julio Gervacio?
Robbie Peden?
Alfred Kotey?
Agapito Sanchez?
All of these guys were/are top champs.
Even Polo, who was twice majorly robbed of title wins, is better than Katsidis (as much as I love him).
Anyway, it's Marquez for me.
Casamayor
Diaz
Barrera
Pacquiao :)
Gainer
Medina
Salido
Sanchez
Peden
Kotey
etc
etc
There are champions in that list (and more champs that weren't listed) that go from 1990 to current champs right now and Marquez has beaten all of them. Yes, all of them. That's a 22 year span of champions beaten.
They also range from champions at Bantamweight all the way to Jr middleweight champions. Well, I'm not sure I can say JMW with any seriousness, but...
That's champions across 22 years and through bantamweight, superbantamweight, featherweight, superfeatherweight, lightweight, Jr welterweight, welterweight and a fake JMW.
This^^^^
some of you clearly are new to the sport or only watch the fights that are on HBO because JMM's resume is on a completely different level than cotto's. He was already a vet going into the first pac fight.
And most of all, enjoy the fight! I have been to a lot of fights but there is definitely something special about a huge fight in Vegas. You will never forget it!
My one piece of advice is try to avoid sections directly behind a corner of the ring. The cameramen and the lighting scaffolding can get in the way of your view. Get a section that's centered between two ring posts on one side of the ring.
I would buy the tickets on StubHub asap as well so you can have them shipped to you and not deal with Will Call
I like the Nacho Beristain style. It is kind of a hybrid counter puncher/boxer puncher style. Perfect balance, high guard, textbook left hooks and right crosses.
Juan Manuel Marquez is the active fighter that embodies this best but Ricardo Lopez, Chiquita Gonzalez, Daniel Zaragoza, Rafael Marquez, and Jhonny Gonzalez fight this way too.
Martinez by KO, Quillin got rocked by Winky. He gets hit pretty often, isn't super active with his punching. Quillin is awkward and would get some shots in but I don't see it working as well as against Sergio's footwork
I can tell like 3/4 of the people that posted in this thread didn't read the first post before they replied. Seriously, reading these boards the last few days has been so funny
Terrible style matchup for Ortiz. I see him having a lot of trouble landing anything significant because of Pac's movement. From what I have seen you really need some solid counterpunching skills and a lot of mental fortitude and patience to compete with pac and those happen to be Ortiz's weakest areas.
Have to say Gents, I whole heartedly disagree with you.
I've seen enough of these threads to know that the complaints here really just translate into "I get owned on OWC"
The footwork is crap, admittedly but the rest of the game is far better and takes a great deal more skill to be competitive than any of it's predecessors and I've played them all over the years.
They portray Atlas far to lucidly imo however.
I pretty much cosign this.
In Lampley's words Ward vs Bute would be a high speed chess match. I still would pick Ward but I don't see either guy getting seriously hurt. Cut maybe, but not hurt.
Dude don't e fooled! If slow ass margarito was tagging PAC up then victor will have no problem finding pacs face.
Omg some of the sh it people post on here
Margarito is tall, has a good reach, has a much higher punch output, and has a cinderblock for a chin. He was willing to walk through manny's shots to land his shots. Victor does not have that option. Try again.
Rafa belongs in the HOF for his streak at 118 lbs, the fact that prime for prime he could compete with any 118 lber that I can think of, and the fact that he is one half of arguably one of the greatest boxing rivalries of all time. Period. And Hatton doesn't have absolutely anything to do with it so I don't even understand why he keeps getting brought up like its relevant
He's saying Mayweather is supremely talented at what he does, but his fights are generally boring. That's not really hating that's just the reality of the situation. He is so good it takes excitement away from the fight.
Because the reasoning being used was "Marquez was on the P4P list for years"
Well, as was Hatton.
It's really not difficult to grasp the obvious connection.
^ you ignored the fact he is an all time great at 118, the resume he has which is clearly superior to hatton's all to keep beating that point to death over and over. Well Azumah Nelson was only on p4p for four years too. Does that mean anything at all regarding how great he was compared to Rafa or Hatton? No it doesn't, he probably had a better resume than both of them put together. There are other much more important factors involved to keep talking about that one misleading fact
I hate the national anthems.
Me too, I never understood why they even do them at fights. They should be for events when the countries are being officially represented like the Olympics or World Cup
I will never understand dudes trying to act hard wearing size small v necks and skinny jeans. Dudes are straight clowns and both of those tracks were straight garbage.
Pre-Hearns Pipino Cuevas would win by early KO. He had great footwork, solid head movement, and could seriously crack. I see it going similarly to the Mosley Margarito fight but ending quicker
Lol @ you "debunking" evolution. Yeah, some invisible cloud man created us because a lovely painting can't paint itself? Darwin would have no answer to your brilliance. Your logic is impeccable. Why don't we get back to talking boxing before you nutjobs strain yourselves trying to think too hard
