We're forgetting that this is a PRIZE fighting. Sadly whoever will generate more money will be the next opponent. "Sadly" because it is not always coincides with the best opponent from the sports perspective. We may see "Usyk-Fury III" because if this...
I was always a fan of what Mayweather done inside the ring. Once all the outside noise was behind - he was like a surgeon. I was always rooting for him in all his fights. With that being said, outside the ring there are questions. He never was an undisputed in any division. He notably avoided several fights where public demand was present. If he agreed to GGG coming down to 154 and beaten him, his resume would look a lot more complete. Not to mention Margarito. By the way, I think he had good chances to win those fights. GGG would've been severely depleted...
To be honest, Usyk was never feared to the degree Golovkin was. Because of the different styles: Usyk may outpoint you, but in the worst case you'll lose a decision. This was a narrative. Only later it became more evident, that he'll beat you with a high pace and superior conditioning and you'll likely not make it to the final bell.. Still it did not look that threatening, while GGG was a destruction personified. And this fact worked to Usyk's advantage perfectly, because he was getting all those fights, while GGG had to settle for whoever was brave enough, while he was in his prime.
I hurt your moms butt. Also yeah because I am black so I must like Wilder right? Wilder is a bum. My point stands. Only racist white boys who know nothing about boxing think Usyk is a ATG.
You want to see a racist? Easy. Just look in the mirror.
Usyk is good but I'm not sold on him in the HW division. Yeah, it should be interesting to see what happens when he steps up in class.
This fight with Chazz does not prove that Usyk is a threat. But it does not disprove it either... He beat a heavyweight basically not by throwing punches, but by threat of throwing punches. Purely with cardio. Which proved that extra 15 pounds did now slow Usyk down all that much. He may not hit concussive enough to KO big heavyweight, but we can't assume this basing on the last fight. Because he did not commit to his punches. If he commits, he definitely has some power (he KOd Bellew with a single punch). Combining with accuracy his power may be enough to do damage.
I think we'll have to look at the manner in which Usyk wins (if he wins). IMO most likely he'll make Chisora spend too much energy and fall from exhaustion. It will be TKO. Depending on how good (or not good) Usyk will look in the process, we'll make a judgement on his future.
Imagine if Linares were knockout proof and looking to mix it up with Loma relentlessly for 12 rounds. That’s what a fight with Mosley would look like. The only guys I see hanging in there with Mosley at 135 are Duran and Whitaker.
Duran "hanging in"? He would beat up SSM badly.
And the same people who now want long retired Floyd fight at a weight he never fought before were mad at GGG for wanting to fight Floyd at 154, when Floyd held a belt at this weight...
If someone beats undisputed champion and gets undisputed by virtue of just one fight, it could be a fluke. Jermaine Taylor comes to mind. But on average undisputed status is harder to achieve.
Agree with original post. And I strongly believe that if Jones fights Tarver before Ruiz, he wins fairly easy. Benn also does not have many chances - he'll not be able to react to the speed of RJJ.
Lomachenko could have fought Haney when Haney was the mandatory. He chose to give up his belt in order to deny Haney that fight.
Haney doesn't owe Lomachenko a damn thing.
Provide a credible link that Loma refused this fight and "gave up his belt". Otherwise, you're liar.
If you need a "credible link" to know that Lomachenko gave up his WBC belt and requested the Franchise belt to avoid his mandatory(Haney) then you're a clueless moron. Look it up yourself you idiotic casual fan.
"Requested the Franchise belt..." - another lie coming from you. He did not request zilch, it was purely on WBC.
And, unlike you, I can prove my point - https://tinyurl.com/y6nhcuok
So in other words you can't answer my question? Or did you just come in here in hopes of talking greasy to someone who you thought was new (as you consider it)? He meant no disrespect and I took none. Sit back down, cheerleader. Let the men handle this, my lady.
From my impartial point of view (I'm neither British nor American) he meant plenty of disrespect. In fact he didn't mean any respect. You were caught with your pants down, sir.
We only really saw Loma in the attacking mode. He uses his exceptional footwork and feints in order to get to the other guy. Who knows how effective he would be if he uses it for defensive purposes. I suspect he could be VERY elusive in this case. This is to the certain degree true for Crawford as well. But IMO to lesser degree. Crawford would be more dependent on his power in an attempt to gain GGG respect. Which is futile.
I think criteria #3 - requirement to move up (or down) is made up. There is clear anti-GGG agenda here. How did imaginary "being the same size" transformed to this? Why is GGG required to move outside his best and most effective weight? So what if other fighters lately hopping weights but rarely try to dominate one specific weight? IMO it has everything to do with money.
I think Vitaly’s prime was around the time when he fought Danny Williams. Although after the shoulder injury he suffered in the Byrd fight, his right hand punch was less than perfect, it became more of the arm punch, it was still VERY heavy arm punch. In a Lewis fight Vitaly gained necessary experience. I would estimate his chances against Fury as 60 to 40. Fury is no slouch and can take a punch. But Vitaly does more damage with his punches. This fight has a lot of chances to be stopped on cuts either way.
At least I think anyone will agree, that intimidation factor of Tyson would not play a role in this matchup. Fury is not the type to be intimidated in the slightest.
Wilder got dropped in a fight over a decade ago, Joshua gets hurt in pretty much every fight he has and was knocked out 8 months ago.
I think it has a lot to do with their comparable quality of opposition.
Absolutely not. Leave things alone because they are fine as they are. How can you say Wilder has no chance when with a referee that did not count so slow or give so many walking tests Wilder would have KOed Fury in the first fight. Cunningham at 210 pounds knock Fury down for a 6 count. Big Baby Miller weighs 300 pounds. Is he a champion? There are 400 pound heavyweights fighting now and they lose all the time. Heavyweight is heavyweight and you fight everyone regardless of weight. If you devide heavyweight up into two weights of say under 250 and over 250 then the under 250 champion will demand to fight the over 250 champion. Every good heavyweight wants to be champion over everybody not just the smaller heavyweights. The best cruiserweights usually go to heavyweight. Look at history. Fury is the biggest heavyweight champ ever and most heavyweight champs are between 180 and 240. No upper limit on heavyweights PLEASE.
I do not agree. Yes, at the moment it will seem that we are creating a dead land in this new division. But overtime with years passing by it will gain a traction. Less drastic difference in weight results in more fair matchups. As of now, even the step from LHW to CW is too steep. We go from 7 lbs margin straight to 25 lbs. Ideally I would like CW to go back to its original limit of 190. And then put junior heavy or whatever at 220. To be honest we could fit even two additional divisions in there, if we lower the limit of CW to say 185. Then the next division with 200 limit, and the next say at 225. Right now, looking at the CW/HW scene it makes no sense. But it will be an investment to the future.
Sounds crazy but get back down to 210 . Use your speed and fast combos hopefully you connect . Stick and move do not try to out jab him pick your spots every round and run . Long shot but that’s only way I see him winning
What "fast combos"? You're probably thinking about another Wilder. Not the one we saw doing the same for 40+ fights.
When they say "Beterbiev is too big", what they really mean is that he is too strong and hits too hard for former JMW in Canelo. Canelo may have his moments early (similarly to Brook versus Golovkin) but he can't hide. And to make things worse - Beterbiev is not just hits hard, he is smart and fine boxer (but offensive-minded), not just reckless brawler.
Loma has a bit of the same "unfair advantage" that prime RJJ had - insane reflexes. As good as Morales was, there is nothing he could do against being hit while not seeing the punch. And the best version of Morales is 126. Loma probably a tad bigger naturally, because coming from 126 to 130 he did not lose any of his attributes. At 135 he is less effective, just like Morales was at 130.
I think undisputed leaves no question marks. It means that at this weight the fighter did not avoid any possible challenges. There is always an issue of specific circumstances. Like one thing if the fighter beaten champion after champion and took their belts one by one. Or next best thing - winning a tournament like WBSS. Another thing - one lucky fight, where a challenger beat undisputed champion, but then failed to hold on to all the belts (like Jermain Taylor after winning belts from Hopkins).
I love Golovkin, but he’s/was a middleweight Deontay Wilder. Great power, intimidating af, but throw him in there with a true boxer who isn’t going to be scared of him, and he’s in some trouble.
I don't feel this is a good comparison. Wilder was utterly embarrassed. GGG fought an even fight. In their respective draws Wilder was a beneficiary of a robbery, while with GGG it was the other way around.
