Povetkins only chance of winning was to go all guns blazing, which he did. He was throwing bombs from the off, trying to get joshua out quick. Obviously as the rounds went on Joshua's stamina was gonna takeover. Joshua did very well, he must have been expecting that povetkin.
Ppl saying joshua lost all the rounds but they were both fighting different fights. Povetkin went all out for the early finish, joshua stuck with his gameplan and bided his time, didn't let himself get into a swinging match.
He knew povetkin would gas and once the opportunity came he finished him very quickly. Brilliant performance by Joshua.
It wasn't just an off night for Josh Taylor in the first fight. Catterall is looking pretty elite here. He also looks to be much bigger than Taylor on the night.
I do agree Horn edged that fight tbf
The hell he did! Think 90% of people can agree that was a robbery. More fool pacquiao for taking the fight though. If it wasn't for that fight horn would still be an unknown bum.
What, in your opinion, is the greatest, grittiest, get back up from a brutal knockdown moment in boxing history, and why?
Here are five memorable moments for me ... of course there are more, but just wanted to give five of my favorites to start. What are some I missed?
1. Larry Holmes gets up after crumpling under an explosive overhand right from Earnie Shavers, arguably the hardest puncher in boxing history
2. Tyson Fury gets up after being felled by a chopping right hand followed by a crisp, explosive left cross-cum-hook from Deontay Wilder, arguably the third hardest puncher in boxing history
3. Anthony Joshua gets up after taking a thunderous straight right hand from Wladimir Klitschko (arguably the sixth hardest puncher in boxing history) that sends the sweat on his hair flying backwards several rows into the audience
4. Muhammad Ali, albeit in a losing effort, gets up from a thunderous, jaw-breaking left hook from Smokin’ Joe Frazier, who owned arguably the best left hook in history
5. Andy Ruiz gets up after being jolted to the canvas by a thudding left hook to the chin from Anthony Joshua
U 4 real homes? How many boxing matches u seen, 5? Your talking about boxing history not just the last few major heavyweight bouts u seen
If he doesn’t have alcohol in his system then F.uck No
Quit the woulda/ coulda/Shoulda game like you’re his parents
Only person he hurt was himself , Maybe he fell asleep at the wheel or dropped his phone and swerved trying to get it / Maybehis GF was chirping to him on the phone , Who the f.uck knows but how can anyone thinks he deserves jail if he was sober and didn’t hurt anyone else but Himself
It’s called a accident for a reason
If he fell asleep at the wheel then he's negligent and shouldn't have been driving.
If he dropped his phone and swerved trying to get it then he's a damn idiot. Dont know about in the USA but using a phone while driving is illegal in the UK.
All three judges gave Wilder the first. Nothing happened in the round. It's comical to see everyone declare the first a Tyson Fury round.
Showtime, BT Sport, and the vast majority of fans gave Wilder the second.
I personally also gave Wilder the fourth after bloodying Fury's nose.
That's three plus the two two-point rounds.
I wound up at 113-113.
Yea just checked, everyone gave wilder the first. Then both other judges have the next 4 to Fury.
I'm from the USA and I've been preaching that Fury is the greatest HW of any era since before Chisora II.
Wilder is going to be embarrassed tonight, and likely stopped. So to answer your question, as an estadounidense, no, I don't think his poor form, telegraphed punches will work much at all.
Happy?
Happy? Well not really. I just want to see a good fight. I love American boxers and as far as im concerned the USA puts on the best boxing shows and events in the World. There is nowhere like Vegas baby!.
With that being said, Mayweather has stunk US boxing out for years. I truly feel sorry for you guys paying 60 dollars plus for ppv when we get it for cheap.
I don't care how good he is(granted, one of the best ever ) Mayweather has turned millions off from boxing with his style.
But to get back to the point Wilder ain't got no chance in hell of upsetting Fury so get yo money on it peeps. HAHAHA imagine if Wilder was around in the 90s. He be dead before he turned pro.
AJ has been ducking wilder for years. since wilder and fury fought to a draw and most felt fury deserved the nod, the pressure is on wilder to make the rematch. AJ knows this, now that he isn't a primary target, he conveniently calls out wilder. so when wilder does the right thing (as he always does as far as making the best fight possible), AJ can act as if he wanted to fight and wilder didn't bite. VERY transparent.
- former AJ fan turned fan of anyone else due to his shameful ducking
Are u smoking some high strength stuff. Hes spent his entire career fighting bums.
Props to canelo but unless he goes after the real champs at this weight it don't mean sheet. Callum Smith dont want it, so charlo or jacobs next. I think he will destroy both and neither want it.
Not bothered about another GGG match. Age is the factor now at the end of the day canelo is prime or approaching it while GGG is declining.
Imagine the career GGG could have had if he was signed for golden boy in his prime. He would have had every advantage going into all his fights. Probs be an ATG by now.
Prime for prime i think GGG is better than canelo, well unless canelo continues his improvement massively. But the history books arnt going to show that. GGG a hall of famer for sure but unless be beats alvarez via vicious knockout then beats ward hes not going down with the greats.
Im pretty certain wilders going to lose to Fury anyway, so it won't matter if he does 1m buys or not, because he will be lucky to get 20% if he loses to Fury.
Its not necessarily his chin that's the problem, he just doesn't see the punches coming and leaves it hanging out there. I think the punches hes been ko'd with would have dropped most fighters, but they wouldnt be daft enough to be caught off balance, chin in the air.
You guys are forgetting some important things here, the ref's can be biased in fact they are BUT it wasn't like fury was taking damage before the knock down he might have been winning a very tit for tat type of fight. The 2 knock downs IMO were the only devastating shots. The ref made the right choice in counting in the 12 round of a fight that the guy on the canvas might be winning.
I don't have a problem with the draw it made sense to me. I go with the old school rule the challenger has to beat the champion decisively to take his belts. I think its impossible to have a winner of a tit for tat fight when there is 2 knock downs against the challenger. A draw is the right call.
There is a problem with a draw as it proves the judges were cheating and can be bought. Say what you want about the challenger has to do this and that. But at the end of the day it comes down to who wins the rounds. And there is no way in hell anyone can rewatch that fight through round 1 to 12 and score it to make Wilder earn a draw without cheating.
Whyte by brutal KO. I'm almost certain wilder will want no part of him. Maybe if Dillian was in his early 50s Wilder would take the fight. That's a big maybe though.
Khan can have the brook fight any time thats a fact. Hes still chasing the big names and there's nothing wrong with that.
I would prefer to see him in with porter or thurman as i think they are more winnable fights for him. I think crawford stops him. But khan will definitely go toe to toe with him.
Brook seems to struggle to do 147 now and he doesn't want any of the top 154lbers. I think its cash out time for him. Fair play for fighting GGG. But that fight ruined him.
Maybe the ref or wilders corner should have jumped in earlier and threw in the towel for Wilder seeing as he had lost every round uo to the 8th and had took a completely one sided beating and had been absolutely outclassed.
Its not right for a right for a fighter to take such one sided punishment.
We will have to wait and see if there is any effect on Wilder. Although it could be hard to tell....
we would've never known that.
Stevenson earlier that night didn't even fall as bad as Fury. He fell and sat up, was conscious. ref waived it off immediately. then he goes into a coma.
Fury went out like a light. limp. motionless. much worse optics. he's lucky nothing immediate happened. but in long term, we will wait and see if he goes into another depressive episode.
If the fight was stopped, there would have been 0 debate.

In a lot of ways Horn's style is similar to Pacman's, one reason why there were head clashes. Horn was stronger and more aggressive which won him the fight, Pacman lost it because he only reacted to Horn and did not make the fight.
Horns style ain't similar to pac mans in any way shape or form. Pacquiao has allways been a toe to toe fighter who comes at you from all angles, is agile as hell, could go the full 12 rounds and has never been shut out. His accuracy has been on point throughout his career.
The only similarity i see with hornet is he likes to get in a tear up. But that's nothing to do with his fighting style. Hornets a crude brawler with very limited skills
The fights wont be competitive, and dont get false confidence from Pacs fight wtih Lucas MAtthysse, Lucas quit he couldn't handle the speed and angles and gave up, he was never hurt just overwhelmed.
Pac will not hurt any of these guys he is too small and old.
Broner might be tailored made for Pacman but at this stage at only 29 to Pacs 40 that youth is going to come into play and the shoulder roll style
Pacman has difficulty with that, he couldn't hit Floyd so how is he going to hit Broner in that shell I see uppercuts everytime Pac tries to reach in, Broner will unload upper cuts on Pac
Spence, Thurman, Mikey, Porter, Garcia, all these guys toy with this version of Manny.
Its not even competitive
They are not going to put Pac in with any of those killers, Haymons plan is to see how Pac looks against AB and then set up the Mayweather rematch, and then do business with Manny in the Philippines,
Haymon is looking at Manny as a long term business partnership to bring in Filipino boxers, and to help Haymon hold concerts in the Philippines and Asia, Haymon is looking at Pacman more as a future President and that will help his boxing empire to have a connect like that.
A 60 year old Manny still beats the piss out of gift Garcia and bull headed Porter.
Spence and Thurman go life and death with a 50 year old Manny. Thurman would probably need a 5 year recovery program also.
Mikey quits against a 40 year old Manny when the going gets tough.
Dim quoting this for later you delusional fanatc lol, this is someone who needs to let it go age is undefeated, pacman gets merked by all top welters
Right now non of these prime fighters embarrass an old ass Paquiao. Im not even a big pac fan.
But at the end of the day no one has ever given him a beating, not including the marquez ko.
None of these fights would be one sided. They would be competitive and i have Paquiao winning the majority of them.
Hes also going to beat the piss out of Broner. Would maul slow ass garcia and give a boxing lesson to bull rush porter.
I was at work and these guys have me rolling..Asked me do I think Wilder could beat Mayweather....Another told me Mike Tyson was top 5 boxer of all time...I asked him who the hell has he ever beaten and his reply"HE BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THAT WHITE GUY"...WHAT???
Boring the piss out of me with this one. Get a life
What's the point in this thread. Wilder has fought literally no-one even halfway decent apart from old man Ortiz and he got saved by the bell on that one. Fury is gonna smother him anyway. Then he can go back to fighting cab drivers or accept 10% against joshua. Neither Fury nor Wilder want any part of Joshua.
Ortiz is scared to make 7 million lol. He should have taken the fight because Joshua will never fight him if he has a full training camp to prepare.
Joshua will fight anyone, why don't people get that. Hes the only top heavyweight not scared of anyone. Hes ducked by everyone. The lowball offer has been exposed now its onto the next excuse.
"yea he only want to fight ortiz on short notice doe, wouldnt fight him with a full training camp"
Does anyone actually believe this rubbish.
Heres my prediction. In the next 4 years Joshua will fight all the top contenders and destroy them all. Im sure people will still call him lucky or something though. Or maybe blame the ref. There will allways be something
Give Williams his props. He took it to undefeated p4per hurd from the first bell. Not only that but the guy has class. No gloating at all. Showed respect to hurd and his momma. Hes an al round decent sportsman.
He also made a good point last night. Fans and media need to stop writing fighters off after a loss. I've not seen a single j rock post on here since his charlo loss but before that everyone was saying he was the truth. That charlo shot was an unbelievable punch, i mean it was some counter uppercut type stuff. Not only that but Charlo is so unlikeble. His behaviour after he ko Williams was embarrassing, was almost like the peds was busting outta him running around and screaming like some looney high on crack.
Williams was ko but he still had the humility to get off his stool and go to offer charlo thanks and charlo just try to start some trouble or something. That's some of the lowest sportsmanship Ive ever seen.
The icing on the cake now would be if J Rock rematches charlo, ko's him and then offers the hungry young lion a cuddle when he brakes down and cries. Coz, we already know from his bro that these so-called lions be crying like simba when they get their asses handed to them.
Should have took more challenges after beating porter. He really disappointed everyone with his matchmaking after he got the belt, he could have really done better but he held it hostage and fought some bums.
Then it was almost a case of trying to make up for the bad matchmaking and bums by fighting ggg. That and wanting to outdo khan and canelo.
Instead of begging for a khan fight and trying to preserve his 0 and fighting bums he should have fought some top fighters, there was plenty of opportunity. He had a belt, there must have been plenty decent welters willing to dance.
