In 3 of his loses he was in the age between 15-18 years old.
His chin is good enough to stand up to all welterweight and jr.middleweight and possable middleweight punchs.
Magarito has the best chin in boxing. I don’t think punches against Tony should count as effective...never saw him hurt he’s made of stone. I expect Margarito's brain simply interprets pain differently than most other humans.
His 3 loses were between 15 & 18 years old. His loss to Santos was stopped on a cut & who really thought Williams beat him. He was never hurt & rocked Williams a couple of times. Really he's undefeated in my book.
Cintron was 24-0 before he fought Tony with 22 KO's. Cotto was 26-0 before Tony. PBF os 39-0 & he doesn't want it to be 39-1, can't blame him.
He rearranged Cotto's face and tore the ear off Lujan with furious barrages.
Probably the most feared boxer by opponents since Tyson in his prime!
DLH is going nowhere near margarito. margarito has established himself as the premiere force at 147. DLH couldn't get margarito's respect and he'd tire just like cotto did if not sooner.
fukk.
Oscar is a millionaire many times over and should not step back in the ring with the likes of Tony. Oscar looked average against Forbes who is nothing. Why put yourself one punch away from a cerebral hemorhage?
De La Hoya previously said he would be reluctant to take on another Mexican fighter - particularly one who rearranges faces like Margarito does.
I guess Castillo came to the scales weight drained and looking like death and made the welterweight limit at 146.5.
This should be the end for him. Lujan has fought several times at 154 and looked very strong at 147.
Has Lujan's ear that Margarito almost removed from his head a few years back been repaired. If not maybe Castillo can capitalize on that!
dlh could keep margarito at bay, the question is, can he at this stage of his career ??/
idk......
Oscar is an overthehill commercial boxer. At this stage of the game he would eventually have to go down to a knee to free himself from the barrage of punches unleashed by the Tornado.
Hey gang, here's my list of the 5 scariest fighters in the game today.
1. Margarito
2. Williams
3. Pacman
4. Pavlik
5. Peter
From here.
1. Margarito
2. Pavlik
3. Pacman
4. Valero
5. Vlad
I bet that Floyd Mayweather today is itching. He is itching to come back to the fame, honour and glory. And itching to prove his critics wrong.
I'm certain that this in-prime Mayweather will be back in the ring no later than the spring of 2009 setting up an early summer fight with Antonio Margarito.
This fight is an interesting and intriguing match-up for sure.
Who do you think will come out on top?
I think Margarito all the way but if anyone could beat him it would be Floyd.
Floyd is a speed demon. If he is more courageous than he is smart he'll fight Antonio & if he won he'd cement his place as an alltime great!
Margarito would knock Floyd the F out, who are you guys kidding?...
ODDS:
Margarito -130 Mayweather +110
Almost a toss-up, Margarito I give a slight nod to!
Margarito -200 Oscar +170
I made a similar thread to this but it was more in defense of marg and pavlik
I have been hearing from many posters that the higher divisions in boxing are devoid of talent and the only reason Pavlik or Klitchko are champions is because of a bad era in boxing. These same people suggest all the talent is in the lower weight classes and becasue all these "pristine" athletes are playing other sports, the higher divisions lack the talent. It is a pitifull attempt to try to discredit other champions for the opponents that are put in front of them.
The point I am trying to make is that Margarito is not a technical boxer with a swift Jab or accuarate combinations but what he has is far greater than any of that. His will and chin allow him to execute his gameplan as well as his opponent. No one can argue that Cotto lacks in any fundementals that pretain to boxing but Margarito still beat him and that is why talent sometimes doesn't out weigh the determination to execute your game plan for twelve full rounds. If Margarito can earn the number spot in one of the most talented divisions Pavlik should be able to do the same.Kelly shares some of the same qualities of Margarito, his chin is not as good but he can walk through punches and execute his game when even coming off the canvas.I would argue that Pavlik is the better boxer of the both but it is there will that allows them to win against the better technical boxers.
These fighters deserve all the respect in the world as they put on a show and keep coming forward no matter what. They may not be a Leanord or a Hagler but who is?No era will be as good as the last and legends don't come often so why do people need to compare current boxers to them?In closing appreciate what is put in front of you because you never know when you are going to miss it.The way these fighters conduct themselves in the ring will shorten their career.
My 2 favorite fighters. I hope they never fight I wouldn't know who to root for.
Who gives a shit...?
Floyd turned down the fight for a bus load of cash so obviously he didn't even agree your dumb ass theory.
Floyd wants no part of AM, no way. Floyd is a commercial fighter & Tony is a policeman in the ring. Running away doesn't go over to well with the fans or the judges. Margarito would demolish the little guy he would be a mere annoyance to the tall Mexican, it amazes my that the majority find it hard to label Margarito as a boxer. To the ignorant eye he is just a brawler.
Floyd as I said would only annoy Tony on Tony's route to victory sort of like a wasp trying to annoy a buffalo. Mere annoyances won't effect a fierce warrior with a golden chin and nothing to fear!
A beautiful and exciting fight.
No flames please, this thread is simply to appreciate a world class effort.
Two guys who put it out there in front of the whole world. Cotto has nothing to be ashamed of, anyone who calls him a quitter is a fool plain and simple. Cotto fought like a man and never held a single time save for when he was clearly hurt.
This is the kind of fight that just proves how worthless Mayweather is to mainstream boxing. More excitement in each round of this fight than in the entire OLDH/Mayweather fight.
This fight only make me a bigger fan of both fighters and here is to hoping that they both continue to provide these type of fights for boxing fans all over the world.
Agree 100%. Who would want to watch Mayweather run from true welters for a 12 rd. boring decision or watch an overthe hill Oscar when they could see such brutal warriors go at in a real fight. This match boosted boxing as a sport.
Floyd will get spanked if he gets brave and fights tony
Have to give props to Cotto for fighting Margarito. Maybe Floyd will think he has a chance against Tony & fight a real welterweight. I'd respect Floyd if he did. Floyd certainly would have a better chance against Tony than Oscar would.
The man deserves credit. He would have KO'd any other man last night with the shots that he was hitting Tony with. He put major Hands on Tony during those first 6 rounds. It was amazing to watch the kind of combinations he was able to put together. But he had a beast in front of him. And that beast was landing his shots much in the manner that Julio Cesar Chavez did in his classic encounter with Meldrick Taylor. There is nothing Cotto could have done better than he did last night. He cannot beat Tony Margarito. Tony is the Chupacabras, and he sucked the life out of Miguel Cotto last night. He'll be back, just not against the Tijuana Tornado.
Cotto will be back, he'll overcome this, he'll win another brand of the 147 lb. crown soon but he won't fight the tall Mexican again, as he's the best of the rest. I think he could whip Oscar as Oscar is 10 yrs past his prime and if PBF finally will fight him my money would be on Cotto.
The villain in that Taylor-Chavez fight was the ref Richard Green I think it was who stopped in with about 5 seconds to go and Taylor helpless on his feet. If he had given Taylor a standing 8 count the fight would have been over & Taylor the victor. Chavez didn't start tearing into Taylor till the last 2 rounds. True though Taylor was never the same again!
Tony started wearing down Cotto around the 6th round. I think Cotto will recover!
Fight fan since the late 50's when each division usually only had one champ and there weren't mid-divisions, only 126, 135, 147, 160, 175 & heavyweight. I think that was the heyday of Boxing!
Was it Richard Steele? I think the fight was in the middle 90's, we bought it. We were all for Chavez and had given up hoping! Strange end! Those who bet on Taylor really must have been furious!
If i were floyd id go back on dancing with the stars alot easier .....
you get a hot chick to dance with and bang out afterwards.......
he got enough cash.........
rides that scooter around in his house.........
fock a fight........
aint nobody payin attention to these boards.......
and nobody cares whether your for or against mayweather.....
problem is most people want to dictate the lives of others .......
its mostly human nature.... and opinions will vary........
especially if your a fan of boxing........
but if its that big a problem if floyd fights again dont buy the ppv and ull shut him up
but most men now adays are like women nothing but gossip......
and the internet is used for exactly that to bash people.......
and good....lol.....
but in order to make a stand you need to actually do something about something........
now go back to shoveling horse manure..........
He's probably saying to himself "Thank goodness I retired before they tried to force me to battle either of those two" Margarito would stuff PBF.
not on the list thats crazy, to me he falls in at #3, with cotto at # 4 and jmm at #5, and jmm beats casamayor then hell be #4...p4p does not mean you can fight at any division it means it doesnt matter how small or big you are, its about who is the overall better boxer.
One more fight like Saturday & he'll be #1 or #2 P4P. He just joined my list of favorite fighters. Cotto is still in top 10! Both top notchers!
1. Pavlik
2. Magarito
3. Calzaghe
4. Valero
Hes too slow, not fast enough, and you can see his punches coming,
but nobody of any relevance wants it with Margarito.
Even though,
Hes too slow, not fast enough and you can see his punches coming.
There is a reason why Floyd retired and his name is Antonio Margarito.
I only watch the big fights & became a Magarito fan the day before he took on Cotto on a promo seeing him win his first title against Diaz. Never saw such a warrior with such hunger & passion. So I bet him as the underdog though I saw Cotto a few times and thoght he was great and probably the reason PBF retired was that he knew he'd be forced to fight Cotto.
Nobody can help but get discouraged in the ring if they hit their foe with their best shots & they seem to have no effect. Nobody can help but succumb to someone who gives them no time to rest putting them on the defensive throwing 100 punches per round.
DLH is a draw but not a great fighter anymore, Tony would stuff Oscar, I don't think Oscar wants to go out in his last fight disfigured.
Mayweather is one speedy guy but I never liked watching his fights. Tony I think would chase the little guy down and a knockout would follow in the late rounds. Tony has long arms so it's a mystery to me how beautifully he works on the inside. Floyd's chance would be to run for 12 rounds & hope it works out better than it did for Cotto. Maybe he could do it but my money would be on the tall Mexican!
Give the man his props and Cotto is the man-that dude can really fight for a human, but Margarito isn't human. Great fighters both. Even though Tony got long arms, it is a mystery how beautiful Margarito gets to work on the inside.
Cotto showed determination and is very intelligent in there, but the brutality advantage Margarito possesses was key. The key punch for him tonight was the left uppercut inside!
I give kudos to Cotto for giving Magarito the fight. Certainly DeLaHoya & Mayweather wouldn't have. If Oscar wants a dangerous opponent, after tonight i don't think you can get anymore dangerous than Margarito.
For this fight to have appeal to Floyd, Margarito has to dominate so that he's perceived as unbeatable, so that a victory by any means would be the stuff of legacy. I agree the timing isn't right. And I'm not convinced that Floyd has the hunger to risk the 0 in any event though.
I guess the biggest concern I'd have is, if all those blows that Cotto landed couldn't do it, how does Floyd keep him, off him?
How about Tony taking say 5mil & letting Floyd or Oscar for that matter take 20mi. Would the 20mil lure either of these two "commercial fighters" into settling this issue. Would Tony settle for 5mil just to prove the point. I think the promoter could guarantee the 25 million purse between the fighters.
No doubt. PBF would likely beat him but he still won't do it. I ain't surprised tho cuz he didn't wanna fight Tony before he whomped Cotto. No way he does now.
ONE FOR THE MONEY (the old Krisstorerson song) would properly describe
the thoughts of either Floyd or Oscar fan base in say the 7th round if they ever had guts enough to stand against the Tornedo.
Ive seen you standing there stunned in the spotlight
Ive seen the sweat streak the pain on your face
Cause youre caught like a clown in a circle of strangers
Who do you screw to get out of this place
Maybe this will get some serious talk of a Margarito-Mayweather fight going.
It's the fight everyone wants. A huge money fight, the biggest on the horizon.
Big Margarito fan but Floyd a speedy guy. 50/50 oddswise!
Seriously. The fight was dull. Neither left their imprint in rounds. Terrible fight neither deserved to win. I didnt like it at all.
Margarito UD Clottey again.
Margarito has nothing to worry about with these two. Boring, no suspense.
Margarito could fight both in the same night & win.
Best I have been to was Zab V Floyd. Awesome fight and the riot was awesome. Tickets cost a shitload though.
I just joined this forum as the sports forums I belong to just didn't have much interest in Boxing. After Margarito vs. Cotto two great fighters I wanted to hear more from boxing fans. When I was a kid my dad was a good friend of Abe Green the Boxing Commissioner and we got tickets to the Basilio Robinson fight at Yankee Stadium in the late 50's. They had 3 fight and either could have been scored the winner in each fight. Robinson in my opinion was the greatest fighter of all time but he was in the twilight of his career against Basilio who was as tough as they come. In the fight I saw 15 rds. neither fighter went down, both gave there all Basilio won a split decision.
Ray Robinson I think was 130-1 thru his first 131 fights and even at 36 or 37 was a fighter of championship caliber. I think the magic of Robinson for me was that he look so regal in the ring, great posture, classic style a boxer with a knockout punch.
According to the poll results, Floyd would coast to a majority decision.
I'm guessing Clottey would make it a closer fight than that, since he can box pretty good, and would have an incentive to prove he belongs in the top ten, but covers up a lot waiting for his opponent to stop firing shots so he can get a few in of his own.
Floyd would keep him busy all night. :boxing:
3 fights I'd pay for
1) Margarito vs. Floyd
2) Margarito vs. DeLa Hoya
3) Margarito vs Williams
Pavlik vs Taylor I
Pavlik showed amazing heart and determination getting off the canvas and coming back to knock Taylor out cold.
Good fight my most recent favorite. All time great fights:
1. Robinson past his prime one punch KO over Fullmer
2. Duran past his prime KO of Davey Moore to win Light Middleweight Championship
3. Duran way past his prime KO of Barley to win Middleweight Championship
4. Archie Moore Ko of Durelle after being knockdown 5 times
Kind of like in the old "Honeymooners" show with Gleason & Norton, when Norton found out his hero didn't build the sewers of Paris but rather condemned them, he was thrown for a loop. Maybe the legendary chin of the Tornedo is just a myth. I'm still a fan of Tony, hears hoping for a comeback. Afterall even Roberto Duran was blown away by Hearns in two, did he come back to win big fights again, absolutely!
