if u think he is being mentioned in an alltime greatness unjustifiably, then you're in a minority. those other greats u named did have some tough battles but most of their battles came at the ends of their careers when there skills were no longer the same. U got to equate for the time as well, all the greats had to keep fighting, Floyd don't need the $$$ like they did for him to cont. also mentioned he hasn't been tested, who can test him? U really think Margarito could?....maybe he is just too good to be tested. he has fought great comepetition, hernandez is alegend and 1 of the greatest LW ever. Corrales was never the same after Floyd. Gatti was supposed to break him with power shots. Zab had the speed, Hatton had the angles and relentlessness, Baldomir was the biggest and strongest, and Oscar had the ring size, the weight, the gloves, and the $$$. if those aren't test what are they?
Max was 100% right and if you can't see it you are blind.
Mayweather is a great fighter, I have always said that. BUT...he also left the division with too many names out there. Cotto, Margarito, Paul Williams, Clottey. In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. Mayweather didn't do that.
I love Max Kellerman because he always tells it like it is and this is no difference. Mayweather will be considered a great fighter but won't be up there with the greatest of all time because he failed to beat everyone who was a threat.
Mayweather could be considered one of the greatest fighters to lace up gloves if he beats the best in the division but if he stays retired, he will only be remembered as a great fighter that retired when the best were still out there.
In my thoughts sir to even say his all time greatness is not justified. I will give him greatness of his era but look at some of the others who have greatness of all time titles. Uh I can only think of a few Ali, Chavez, Sugar ray Robinson , Sugar Ray Lenoard...they all some horrific fights with very formidable oppenents and didn't have to win each fight but showed they had the strength and courage to push on. Who has Floyd fought to really test his Strength , courage or fortitude....Answer Oscar at what 35? he doesn't even want that rematch.....If he wants to truely secure his legacy he needs to fight a big battle and get tested...He didn't get that from the smaller Hatton, or from oscar because he refused to exchange in both fights he held and ran. He Ko'd hatton I will give you that but Hatton came to him. He hit Oscar celanly but he couldn't score a knock down and just skated away by the skin of his teeth. If he wanted to retire with his legacy he should had a plan for his last few fights. My plan would have been tune up maybe a fight with Quintana after he beat Williams? the Oscar and Cotto if he wanted to go out with a bang Clottey or Margarito...Marg would be the big one at the end. that would have cleaned up the welter Weight Division in my eyes and secured his legacy. A fight with Williams would be much like the fight between him and Hatton maybe competitive but in my opinon Williams is not a true welter weight he is a freak of nature

So if he fights Margarito and destroys him it won't matter in regards to his legacy because he wasn't tested?
There is no doubt he is the greatest of this era. His greatness of all time is what some are questioning. I think the fact he is even be mentioned in alltime status is a testimony to what dude has done in the ring.

That's why i still believe that despite the loss, Cotto is still "THE" fight for Floyd. Despite all of Margo's relentlessnes, and toughness, i see Floyd pot-shotting and moving all night, and winning a ud. He's just too slow for Floyd. Floyd cant do to Cotto what Margarito did. It'll be a completely different fight.
Completely different fight....no kidding

it'll be different fight no doubt. But less be honest, Cotto is not on Floyd's level either. Cotto has been constantly hurt in every division and this time he ran into a closer to finish the deal. Now I know u gon say floyd can't hurt him but Corley sure did. And floyd is a closer, whenever he had somebody hurt and dazed he has got them out of there. Also, i'm not sure of Cotto can fight going backwards. he gave up ground way too easy and often against margarito. At times he was just going to the ropes, no push back or stand his ground in the whole fight. I was liek WTF!!
Max Kellerman was weak for that. Beating Margarito does nothing for Floyd's WW legacy. It didn't do nothing for williams legacy. Afterall, Margarito just finally beat somebody who was considered elite and in my opinion Cotto lost it more than Margarito won it. I don't want to take nothing away from Margarito, he showed a lot of heart and will and perseverance, but dude still can't box a lick.

I agree Max wasn't throwing him under the bus he was simply maiing a statement a focused Floyd and Antonio Margarito would make a really big and great event for the sport of boxing. It would be tremendous paydays for both men at this point. if Money May is satified and is no longer interested in the sport at 100% then he should remain retired or in other words don't just do it for the money Floyd! But if he is foucsed and really wants to be regarded as the P4P Champ and possibly the Greatest of His Era then it would make sense aong with plenty of dollars for him to fight Margarito.

Max's not trying to diss. He is speaking the truth and he did a good job. If Mayweather is still motivated then come back and prove to be the best WW.

This was an HBO mandate. Hatton talked so much trash and it actually worked, though mostly because Floyd knew he could easily beat him.
Now Kellerman is trying to get Floyd mad enough to come back, and HBO is behind this.
Good thread! It exposed the true boxing fans from the Floyd fanaticals. Even the real boxing/floyd fans admit that what Max did was a good thing. There was no hate in what he said. It was the straight up truth. The only ones who were hurt, were the ones who cant handle the truth.
I can't say it any better than this so....
