Margarito the Mexican Pavlik

imagine if these two were closer in weight classes... now THAT would be a BRUTAL fight... both have tough chins (the edge goes to margarito though); pack a serious punch and have no idea what a backwards step is... it would be a honorary heavyweight fight of the modern era... I'd pick Pavlik for sure. He's bigger, stronger, longer, And has more raw power. Don't forget Pavlik is a middleweight that could fight at lightheavyweight if he wanted to. I think there demeanor, and styles are similar, But ultimately Pavlik is just bigger. Also, no offense to Cotto, But if Pavlik landed the shots that Cotto did Tony might not be breathing right now, Or in a coma.

i would love to see Pavlik and Magarito go at it... or i wouldn't mind Tony vs Baldamir, 2 best chin in boxing today.

I don't think they are much alike at all, except that their mission is to sap the will out of their opponent and are both determined to do so. Margarito is pure blood and guts, relentless, toughness, stamina, will and determination. Pavlik is more of a sharpshooter, with basic fundamental boxing skills. He can war it up like he did with Miranda, but prefers to keep an opponent on the end of his punches. Margarito likes pain, while Pavlik is evolving into a more defensive, safety first approach. While Pavlik is more well rounded, Margarito excels so heavily at what he does, he does not need to be.

i wouldnt exactly call Pavlik a great boxer either. both are tough motherfuckers that nobody wants to fight because they will hurt u... really badly! i agree though that margarito has the better chin although not a knock on pavlik. margarito might have the best chin in boxing

My 2 favorite fighters. I hope they never fight I wouldn't know who to root for. It would play out like Pavlik vs. Zertuche. Only the ko would come quicker.

I made a similar thread to this but it was more in defense of marg and pavlik I have been hearing from many posters that the higher divisions in boxing are devoid of talent and the only reason Pavlik or Klitchko are champions is because of a bad era in boxing.These same people suggest all the talent is in the lower weight classes and becasue all these "pristine" athletes are playing other sports,the higher divisions lack the talent.It is a pitifull attempt to try to discredit other champions for the opponents that are put in front of them. The point I am trying to make is that Margarito is not a technical boxer with a swift Jab or accuarate combinations but what he has is far greater than any of that.His will and chin allow him to execute his gameplan as well as his opponent.No one can argue that Cotto lacks in any fundementals that pretain to boxing but Margarito still beat him and that is why talent sometimes doesn't out weigh the determination to execute your game plan for twelve full rounds.If Margarito can earn the number spot in one of the most talented divisions Pavlik should be able to do the same.Kelly shares some of the same qualities of Margarito,his chin is not as good but he can walk through punches and execute his game when even coming off the canvas.I would argue that Pavlik is the better boxer of the both but it is there will that allows them to win against the better technical boxers. These fighters deserve all the respect in the world as they put on a show and keep coming forward no matter what.They may not be a Leanord or a Hagler but who is?No era will be as good as the last and legends don't come often so why do people need to compare current boxers to them?In closing appreciate what is put in front of you because you never know when you are going to miss it.The way these fighters conduct themselves in the ring will shorten their career. I don't think so really. Pavlik's the better boxer and throws a lot more straight punches than Margarito. Pavlik is only a one two puncher. Sometimes he'll mix in the left hook. Marg is better.

Pavlik is a better boxer than Margarito but Margarito is far far tougher.
