boils down either he's lying or his manager is not keeping him updated. I will give him the benefit of the doubt....
Don't think Donaire is scared.
Dont know why you even sign new fighters to Top Rank, when they're clearly the ones holding up this fight and offering you low numbers for Mares.
A very quick look at the figures shows that 900,000 would bring in around $60 mill. With $30 mill going to the TV and Cable Companies and $10,mill at the gate (assuming that it was a REAL figure, (not inflated by the promoters just paying the $6 seat tax) making a $40 mill gross take (not counting theatres which historically isn't much) from which approx all taxes would amount to 42%. This would leave $24 mill, from which Mayweather's $32 mill, Guerrero's $3 mill, plus the undercard, plus the Promoter's cut of about 25%, leaving a deficit of about $25 mill.
I don't know where the various cuts are from the gross or the net and I haven't counted the theatre revenue nor the souvenirs and sundries, both of which I believe to be comparatively small. Whichever way it is, unless there is "imaginative accounting", it looks to be a huge loss.
Another point, in the Showtime-Mayweather contract, Showtime would be foolish not to have included a 'contingency" clause, where the purse would take into consideration a poor result. At the same time, Mayweather would be equally foolish is he didn't insist on being paid regardlesss of the "outcome of the income"...And the whole "$30 mill" payday might be subject to-almost CERTAINLY would be-all sorts of "whereas-es".... $30 mill in REAL money isn't earned so easily by ANYONE.... but it always makes wonderful PR.
In my experience, only ONE professional athlete offered to pay back his fee when the gate was poor. That was tennis star Bill Tilden, about 75 years ago.
golden boy does not get 25%, they get fixed flat fee, which i have no idea on what it is but prob around 3m
well.... Imean, the TEST to become a ref is like taking a "test" to become a professional fighter...its like the amateur coach test the USABoxing gives us...it is ridiculous, passing it means nothing...I know more than a few refs and judges who are official but. CLEARLY are not qualified....u wont agree because I say it BUT IT IS FACT...
Not that you care but i dont see rockin getting personal or "hating" on you at all. he disagrees with your opinion and is giving logical arguments and point to do so. You are getting personal. seems like sour grapes, and if the same thing happened to dawson you would be singing a different tune.
insinuating is almost the same as saying it was possible. You wanted to post it and see what the message boards opinion is. It seems like sour grapes to some of us. not a personal attack just calling it like i see it.
and i personally believe it was not chads fault for the push, it happens since hopkins was leaning on him. but clearly shouldve been no contest since inside 4 rounds
What bridge has Haymon burned with Showtime?
Though he'll likely make one title defense in primetime on NBC, Showtime is now home to America's newest heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Showtime is still the exclusive home of Floyd Mayweather Jr, the sports unquestioned top draw and best fighter. Stevenson's mandatory defense, as mandated by the WBC, is the winner of the WBA/IBF/WBO fight between Kovalev and Pascal (50/50 split of the purse bid has been written into the deal, and Showtime has proven that they are willing to put up the money for fights that they want).
On top of that, Haymon has most of the sports young prospects under his umbrella and he's paying for the extra TV dates out of his own pocket.
If NBCUniversal, or anyone else for that matter, offered up a content deal, a la FS1 and the UFC, the conversation changes (ie NBCUniversal pays Haymon Boxing $100m per year for 12 primetime fights on NBC, and a weekly boxing series on NBC/NBCSN).
Even with that, Haymon would still need an avenue to showcase his fighters that likely break into being PPV stars and PPV-quality fights. It's likely that that outfit would be Showtime.
Haymon has 60%-70% of the sports' top name fighters under his umbrella/in his orbit, with that percentage being even higher when considering the sport's top budding prospects.
lol at "promoters licking their chops"; HBO, outside of being willing to work with select fighters, is basically exclusive to Top Rank. Where are all of these matchups that can be made for non-HBO (Showtime or otherwise) without working with Haymon?
exactly, and to add to this, showtime now will be exclusive to premier level fights that are not quite ppv, all the other time buy networks will be used to build up the boxers and matchups. Showtime happy, since where the real money is ultimately made in boxing is ppv. Longterm strategy is to develop ppv stars (deontay, errol etc...)
Huh? No nbc are where hes putting his big fights. Nbc is "the big deal" for al. Thurman, broner, garcia, chavez jr,wilder he's gonna build these guys on network tv. He wants to go away from that pay per view format. I've herd time and time again from industry insiders that he wants to get back to the old days. So what does he need showtime for. He basically held them at gunpoint last year and robbed them for there cash
obviously the network NBC night will be relatively big fights. Go back to old days? bull****, hes in this for the long term, invest and takeover boxing, where does the payoff for him and his investors come in? think logically, payoff is PPV and/or subscription based model (i.e WWE).
HBO and Showtime to a further extent recognize this as well. How do they make money? subscriptions and PPV distribution. Does boxing really move the needle for HBO/Showtime to increase their subscription base? No it does not. Evidence of this is simple ratings. HBO roughly 30M subscrip base, rating at best do 1.5, thats 3%. Hence why HBO reduced their budget and hired Hershman (who was known as doing more with less at Showtime). Showtime probably going to follow suit and lower their budget, focus on big fights only and PPV.
Hell ****in ya, I remember back in the day tsn would pick up most hbo fights, hopefully they will pick up more showtime fights.
I think thats whats happening, showtime fights will be on some form of tsn, and i expect a bounce back year from showtime even with the nbc announcement, unless the reltionship between haymon and stephen is soured (which i dont think it is). You dont just ruin a relationship with showtimes budget which is mostly allocated to al.
I can't believe we can't watch any Showtime in Canada anymore. The SHO app would be a solution but I can't register because I am not in the US. I e-mailed Showtime asking how a Canadian can legally pay them and they responded with:
The international distribution rights to Showtime Sports events are generally retained by the event's promoter, not Showtime. You may want to contact them directly regarding the airing of this event in your country.
Showtime torrents are hard to find unless its a PPV, and paying Showtime through a family member in the US then using an IP rerouter is weak because it costs money and is still illegal.
Anybody know a way/place to find links without finding out the results first? If I find something I will let you guys know
TSN has the rights now, win for us, no longer have to buy super channel

You do realize that the number is still bad considering Showtime still lost money on that fight. They barely covered Floyd's purse and have nothing left for anyone else.
How would you know, 925k at an average of 70 gives you 65M, take half, thats 32.5, that covers floyds check, now factor in gate (at least 10M) and closed circuit (not sure), I'm sure Showtime broke even on it, worst case slightly under.
But no one knows how the deal is structured, does Showtime get a cut of gate until they break even, closed circuit, movie ticket sales etc...
Zero way to verify it. It appears that when they fail to make 1 million, they think it's safe to come up with a number close to it.
These people should be investigated by the FBI. This is deception on a massive scale.
The IRS should go after them also.
Why the **** would the FBI investigate them over ppv numbers???? Are you fried, as long as they report the accurate revenues to the IRS is all that matters. Like seriously, are you semi-retarded???
Half automatically goes to the cable providers... so that's leaves 32.5m+gate+everything else for Floyd and Showtime. We know Floyd is guaranteed 32m, so...
I know, I said that in my post that half goes to cable providers. And as I said gate is at least 10M if not 15M, 32 covers floyds cheque, 3M to Maidana, 3M to under card fighters, thats still 4M leftover, and that does not take into account closed circuit, movie theatres, overseas rights, merchandise etc... Well over break even imo
I get what you're saying, but that wouldn't be "true odds". The true odds would be the no vig line. At -1200, it's basically saying that Floyd wins 92.3% of the time. At +700, Maidana wins 12.5% of the time.
92.3% + 12.5% = 104.8%
True odds would be -738/+738.
-738 = 88%
+738 = 12%
88 + 12 = 100%.
Unless you mean something else, and I'm just misunderstanding.
no what im saying is if there was no such thing as juice the fair bet would be to split the juice both ways. i.e. a standard pickem is -110 -110, no juice would be a 1 to 1. a -1000 +600, no juice would be something like +800 -800. like if youre betting your friend you would split the juice,
but i see you're doing it mathematically , i think your math might be off
I assure you that it's not. Feel free to double check.
You're just splitting the difference. That's not finding the true no vig line.
yup your right, so then its better to say the + is closer to the true odds on a heavy juice line
If this thing opens up with -1400/+800, I think there's probably some value in betting on Algeri. The odds will probably move to something around the +650 area. But I'd keep it small. There's not a chance in hell he's winning a decision, imo.
i think odds will stay the same or be even more for pac, lot of asian gamblers,
i think chris gets knocked out, terrible one sided matchup imo,
No, it's not technically correct to say that. It's making something up, to say that. Maidana wasn't an 18/1 underdog. Period. The only way it's correct to say he's an 18/1 underdog, is if you can bet on him at 18/1. I mean, that's why these odds exist. Imagine telling someone that Maidana is an 18/1 dog, then they try to bet it, and get 7/1. They'll think you're a moron that doesn't know what he's saying.
And when we're talking about -1800 favorites, there's no reason in the world to juice it any higher than it needs to be. No one is laying $1800 to win $100.
you gotta split the difference, so if floyd was -1200 and maidana was +700,
the true odds would be 9.5 to 1, gotta split the juice to get "true gambling odds"
"Arum is wrong here no doubt... but what Schaefer should have done is accept Bob's offer and do his best to negotiate as much money he can for Mares.
Don't ask for a rematch clause and if Mares wins, GBP has all the bargaining chips for the rematch."
why??? are you an idiot? the fair thing is whoever offers the most for the fight gets to promote it simple. work out a split beforehand and thats that, what gbp did is the fairest thing.
is he going to start slow and get better? you would think he would want to start off with some good fights but i guess not. haymon defenders said he was going to save boxing and if Thurman-guerrero is the best fight on your "good" card then he's not going to be doing any saving.
its better than the **** main events put on its deal, hes buying the time, its not meant to be top class fights in the long term, the top fights are saved for showtime, lower to mid level for nbc.
showtime no longer has to buy ****ty fights, win win for everyone involved,

the real reason cintron faked his injury is not because he was scared of Pwill is because he takes the easy way out, collects a big payday (relative to what he normally collects), claims he still wanted to continue not his fault etc... Since the fight was inconclusive (which it was), he now has a "legit" reason to get back on HBO (which is hard for him to do nowadays) and collect another "guaranteed" paycheck. by faking his injury he significantly increased the odds of him getting another high purse paycheck. if he continued he most likely wouldve lost and bye bye to HBO fights. This is the same reason nate cambell quit. (backfired on him though) so this is the reason he faked it not cuz hes scared but simply for monetary reasons. Not saying hes right but that in my opinion is the real reason.
Arum said that if Diaz and Pacquiao both win, he would match them in July. A win by Pacquiao in July could lead to the ultimate showdown in September: A welterweight fight against Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya in De La Hoya's career finale, Arum said.
Appreciate the honesty. Is what it is, but after a whole year plus of killing Adonis in the press and in post fight interviews, Kov can't just sit by and let this fight go away.
I think the WBC has made some fan friendly decisions lately (despite not making Floyd defend the 154lb titles). I think Kathy pushed for it and the WBC did this to make solidify the fight to make sure what happened with HBO didn't happen again.
I think HBO told Kathy they wouldn't allow an out in the next contract for the Stevenson fight (assuming they lost the purse bid) so she had to do this to save face. She isn't going to not resign with HBO and lose out on guaranteed money.
sanctioning bodies are changing their ways recently, they have joint meeting apparently. which is why you will and have seen more unifying fights. They see that if they dont adapt the belts will become meaningless. Remember that stupid WBC rule where the beltholder cant hold any other orgs belt. Thats now abolished I believe.
