I was just told that Hopkins corner put ice packs on his shoulder AFTER THE FIRST ROUND, BEFORE THE SECOND...if so...hmmm....WHY would they do that (before he was injured)???
yea, but u rest before the fight...heal up, get strong...and the point is IF he had something wrong already then that casts a HUUUUGE doubt and shadow and cloud over the whole situation!!!
You can't base any wild conclusions off of an ice pack on the shoulder. Could have been just to cool him down, he could have chronic inflammation of his shoulders.
Doesn't mean a fighter can win a TKO on a single leg takedown, though.
Hopkins quit the fight...I'm saying that as a fan..him making those stupid faces when he went down was bad acting ..he did the same in the roy fight..acting like a little girl once things don't go his way...dawson would of destroyed him if he kept going.
You reaching ice. Let me slam Chad so all his weight falls on his elbow and see if he is ok after. Hey John we all know hop fights dirty but u have to admit that was an intentional slam by Chad. He wrapped his left arm under hops right leg and slammed him. Next time tell him to elbow him or ball
Whack him so we get our money's worth. Thanks skully.
Clinton Mitchell isnt white....actually, he's from Brooklyn, NY, and was a top flight 178 pound amateur in the class of 1988...fought many top amateurs including Andrew Maynard...

You miss this? So much for icing his shoulder...

It's true, Hopkins psyche was so damaged by losing to whiteboy Clinton Mitchell in his pro debut that he did not fight again for 1.5 years, when he returned he dropped 3 weightclasses so he could beat up on tiny MW's.
Went in search of proving or diproving the claim...

3:44... Between rounds 1 and 2 - Naazim puts a bag full of ice on Hopkins' left shoulder.

Ice is clearly on his neck, not his shoulder.

I couldn't disagree with you more Scully.
Are you implying that if your man is fouled multiple times, whether or not his opponent is cautioned or penalized by the referee, that it would give him carte blanche to foul him back. In the gyms it can run like that but in a professional prize ring it will not and does not work that way. You should know that...........Rockin':boxing:
Are you kidding dude? Its a Hopkins fight. The same guy that compared a boxing match to a gun fight and said he will do whatever it takes to win.
How about this, if Hops was fouled, do you think he would just stand there and take those fouls? Because thats what it sounds like you're asking Chad to do.

That hand behind the leg negates any possible claim that the foul was unintentional.
That left foot B Hop held up instead of putting down negates any possible claim that the FALL was unintentional.

I basically think that some fighters often do get in the ring with some minor injury but I don't think that he had a bad shoulder injury and just waited for a moment like this... it is just some stuff that happens... it is of course bad for everyone involved - I think that Chad doesn't want to become champion like that and I also don't think that a title should change hands of a injury that was caused by a non punch...
Both obvisouly don't want a rematch for whatever reasons... I think that from Hopkins side Chad is simply a bad match up - he punches straight... has very good handspeed and condition... overall the tools to simply outwork him - for Bernard at this stage in his career a bad match up...
Chad probably don't want to deal with all that stuff that Hopkins brings again outside and inside the ring but Hopkins still got that title...
I'm also more interested in seeing Chad-Pascal again then Chad-Hopkins... but I don't think that Pascal goes one more time into the ring with Hopkins so Chad-Pascal will happen hopefully.
The one thing I found a bit suspicious was how Hopkins seemed to have been grimacing in pain even before his body even completely landed on the ground. Now from experience I know it takes a few seconds for the pain to set in and realize what's wrong. I broke my foot once before and didnt realize it until I tried to get back up and put my weight on it.
Anybody remember when Danny Williams dislocated his shoulder early in a fight against Mark Potter? He fought the remainder of the fight with one arm, and ended up knocking out his opponent with an uppercut. That's heart.

All I'm seeing here is the usual dirty Hops tactics. Threw punch, noticed he overshot, lunged forward and was looking to throw his weight on Dawson/clinch etc.
Good for Dawson to give him some of his medicine back.
I do believe that Hopkins took the easy way out of this fight and acted out his injury a little worse than it was.
But I was disappointed by how much Dawson wanted to 'escape' with this victory and had absolutely no interest in fighting Bernard again.
