i remember watching bradley vs holt, after being dropped in the first round bradley went back to the corner and his trainer asked "are you alright kid, speak to me" as soon as bradley said he was fine his trainer went onto say "ok good we can get over that and get back to the gameplan" he also told bradley how he can avoid the big left hook. now that was a very professional corner.
Regardless, and he does suck, he wouldn't have been able to help Cotto. All Cotto could have done was run like he did and hope he didn't get hit, pulling a Kevin Johnson.
a good gameplan can take a fighter a long way.
watch cotto vs torres when cotto was in trouble wobbling around the ring evangelista kept his cool and told cotto what he has to do and cotto did it and won.
dont get me wrong..........aint discrediting pacs win.............miguels " stubborness" is to blame as well..........................i meant his career.............
man i've been saying that for a looong time, cotto has all the tools he needs, but he needs someone to help him use it to his advantage
he's like a ferrari with a bad driver.
I've seen a prime Pacquiao get out-boxed by an over the hill Morales.
I've seen a prime Pacquiao lose to Marquez twice.
True story.
i belive pac has only entered his prime now, but anyways....
i think hoya would win but you have to remember hoya has always had problems with southpaw and/or fast/slick fighters.
I was watchin the Jeff Lacy fight the other day against Calzaghe..
Jeff Lacy had a pretty terrible corner too.
But yeah, Joe Santiago sucks balls
i dont remember his corner advice but i know the birmingham brothers are veteran coaches, they know their shit.
still wondering how far cotto would have gone........with a competent corner from the start........
im one of cotto's biggest fans but i think this is just Manny's time, he's just on a roll, the only person that can stop him is probably floyd.
LOL at some random dude from the internetz telling peepz they dont know boxing!
shane mosley called floyd a runner, he dont know nothin about boxing? lol
Imagine what Ariza will do. Inject roids into Haye making him have a iron chin, more speed and power? :haha:
yo momma need to be injecting silicon on them sagging tittays.
Solid partnership with Booth so i can't see them splitting up or anything. Best trainer in the world teaching Haye a few new things can only be good.
Unless Booth wants to stop being his trainer for good..
Part of being a good trainer is knowing when your fighter needs more than you can offer, Booth isn't just Haye's trainer but also his friend and manager.
if roach doesn't get paid, then he's not a part of the corner.
i dont think roach is a generous enough guy to let porter use his gym, spar his fighters, get advice without charging anything.
i think porter's dad is working his corner...
from what i know Roach is an 'adviser' to porter, he works out a gameplan with porters dad and takes him on the pads once in a while.
Agree.
I was also impressed by Lamont's trainer too. He was giving Lamont great psychological advice in the fight.
Both corners were excellent and treated their fighters with a lot of respect and dignity.
yup, i also liked how in the holt fight after being knocked down bradleys corner kept calm and made him stick to the game plan instead of panicking.
No, because Cotto's record indicates a pattern. He'd go from a cupcake to an A-level opponent, and he wouldn't be ready for that A-level opponent. The only examples of where he fought two good fighters in a row were Judah (iffy) and Mosley, then Clottey and Pacquiao. You don't go from fighting Alfonzo Gomez to Antonio Margarito because it can give you a false since of confidence and the not know how of what to do when you are up against adversity. Cotto's resume gets too much credit around here.
i kind of agree with you....
after the gomex woopin cotto thought he was some kind of super slickster, he went in confident against margo taunting n shit.
I stopped being a fan of Paul Williams since he beat Margarito, no not because i like Margarito but because Paul Williams' best win is against a guy who his own fans call a 'hype job', and without that 'hype job' Williams resume is below average.
