damn that has got to be the worse advice ever!
if cotto aint gonna be hiring a good trainer atleast make up with your uncle, this santiago guy didn't know what to do and panicked like roach said he would.
dont get me wrong..........aint discrediting pacs win.............miguels " stubborness" is to blame as well..........................i meant his career.............
man i've been saying that for a looong time, cotto has all the tools he needs, but he needs someone to help him use it to his advantage
he's like a ferrari with a bad driver.
i dont remember his corner advice but i know the birmingham brothers are veteran coaches, they know their shit.
well they were mad slow to patch up his face... like, they were staying out in the ring too long, slow... And all they really said was "straighten the right hand"... Oh, and they never abandoned that nonsense about getting on the inside and roughing up Joe...Joe was clearly the better fighter on the inside.
They should have abandoned that strategy as they saw what was going on, and had Lacy actually create more distance to give the most power and leverage to his shots.
Not that Lacy had too much of a chance against Zags...but horrible strategy from his corner
still wondering how far cotto would have gone........with a competent corner from the start........
im one of cotto's biggest fans but i think this is just Manny's time, he's just on a roll, the only person that can stop him is probably floyd.
I was watchin the Jeff Lacy fight the other day against Calzaghe..
Jeff Lacy had a pretty terrible corner too.
But yeah, Joe Santiago sucks balls

Santiago really sucks. Not once he gave Cotto real tactical advice during the fight and then he says Pacquiao doesn't have a right hand! a round later Cotto goes down thanks to one.
One of the worst corners I ever seen in boxing a fight.

Regardless, and he does suck, he wouldn't have been able to help Cotto. All Cotto could have done was run like he did and hope he didn't get hit, pulling a Kevin Johnson.
a good gameplan can take a fighter a long way.
watch cotto vs torres when cotto was in trouble wobbling around the ring evangelista kept his cool and told cotto what he has to do and cotto did it and won.
i remember watching bradley vs holt, after being dropped in the first round bradley went back to the corner and his trainer asked "are you alright kid, speak to me" as soon as bradley said he was fine his trainer went onto say "ok good we can get over that and get back to the gameplan" he also told bradley how he can avoid the big left hook. now that was a very professional corner.

I have to agree with Roach when he said Santiago was a corner cheerleader and not a trainer. The dude had no business coaching a fight of the magnitude Cotto had with Manny. But, if Cotto insist of having friendship overrule logic then we can expect more of the same from camp Cotto in times to come.
Peace.
