Former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, who lost his title to the Filipino ring sensation last month, might accept an invitation to fly to the country and be a special guest during Pacquiao’s birthday. Although Team Pacquiao has yet to confirm the Puerto Rican’s arrival, Cotto had posted on his Twitter page that he is willing to fly to the country to attend the Filipino’s birthday bash—an annual extravaganza normally held in Gen. Santos City—on Dec. 17. “Yes, we are willing to complete all the logistics (requirements) and we will go,” posted Cotto, in a reply to a query from Top Rank as to whether he would honor the invitation. Pacquiao has a tradition of inviting opponents to the country after their bouts. Erik Morales was a regular guest of the boxer in the past. The two eventually shot a commercial together for beverage giant San Miguel Beer. David Diaz also flew in last year for Pacquiao’s birthday party while Juan Manuel Marquez visited after their second fight—albeit to challenge the Pacman to a third bout. Cotto’s statement was in response to a question posted by Top Rank on its own Twitter page: “Good day to you champ. I heard Manny invited you and your wife to his birthday on 17. Will you come?” Pacquiao destroyed Cotto via a 12th-round TKO to snatch the WBO welterweight title and become the first fighter in boxing history to win seven crowns in as many weight classes. Pacquiao is scheduled to fight undefeated superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13
