Those who payed $$$ for PPV got robbed. (I'm also a Cotto fan)

I believe (or I shlould say REALLY HOPE) this fight happens. Right now with all the bullshit w/ Arum and Floyd, and not to mention the other fights that look like they have to happen first (Floyd/DLH, Cotto/Margarito) we won't see this until 2009. That being said, Floyd you're fucking 31, not 51. It's a shame to here a guy who says he's the all-time best talk like he's above it all and doesn't have anything else to prove. "Let them come to me, I'm the man". Bullshit. Floyd, think back to the greats of all time and ask yourself if they would say or do what your doing. This is THE division right now and you have a lion in the middle of it who looks like he will be the best when all is said and done, not to mention the other huge names in the mix. Look at next Saturday. Hopkins is 43 and fighting Calzaghe. Think about that. Wake up Floyd. 2009 should produce this fight. I'll be patient. If it doesn't, Floyd you're naturally gifted and one of the best, but never will you be THE best in my mind. Later.
I've been making this argument since yesterday with friends on this topic. Once Cotto/Canelo talks officially died, I IMMEDIATELY thought there was a strong chance for Mayweather-Cotto II. Floyd now has an out. I keep getting told not too worry, Pacquiao/Mayweather is all but done, but I keep reminding the same people, there is NO ink to paper yet.
Yo, I was listening live and was like WTF??!!! Thought there were technical difficulties, but was later told Beeb pulled the plug after what appeared to be him getting muted. Crazy. Tha Boxing Voice is the truth though. Hands down, my favorite show to listen to. I suggest every fan check them out.
Scoring criteria:
1- Clean punching
2- Ring generalship
3- Effective Aggression
4- Defense
Mayweather CLEARLY won. I'm not even a Mayweather fan, but you're either blind or trolling.
I will reiterate that I am a Cotto FAN. He's my favorite fighter, first one I ever paid PPV $$$ to see, and first one I paid to see live. He did what he was supposed to do, and looked great doing it. Plus, I believe it's better for the sport that he won. That being said, no one can tell me something wasn't wrong with Martinez's knees. Those getting into partially torn meniscus etc., I couldn't care less. Save your technicalities for someone who cares. The man's legs were not right, to the point that his mobility was greatly affected. That's all I need to know, and anyone with a working pair of eyes and a brain saw this too. I guess Jim Lampley and Roy Jones with there experience were out of there minds with what they observed during the fight. They must be nuts too I guess.
Martinez should not have been allowed to fight, and the people who paid $$$ were sold a healthy dose of BS. Were were lied to. Again, Cotto is not at fault. Sergio, his team, and everyone else who knew his true condition are. Lies, a bunch of lies. Martinez was dropped 3 times in Round 1. Again, what if I told you that before the fight? Common sense is a lost art.
People paid $$$ and were LIED to as to Sergio's true condition. I love Cotto, and don't fault him for anything. Like I said, he did what anyone would have done. But please, Martinez was a sitting duck. Listen to Lampley and RJJ in Round 1. If I told you before the fight Cotto would drop Martinez 3 times in the first round, what would your response have been? Fandom aside, Cotto's victory needs a fat asterisk next to it.
Two questions:
Name a top 154/160 lb. fighter that Martinez would've beaten Saturday night.
Second, would you pay $$$ for Sergio vs. (Anyone of your choosing) on PPV after what you witnessed Saturday?
After all, he's not shot. His knees played no role so why not?
Spot on vman. And for those mentioning sparring and the knees, did you see or hear of any sparring by Sergio during camp, on 24/7? Word is he did little to none. Dude was mostly on a bike or an elyptical.
This thread gives me hope that not everyone is delusional. Like I said on my own thread, no one is faulting Cotto. But you cannot deny Sergio was impaired. The level of BS, lies, and ego driven comments by Cotto nuthuggers is obscene. Tell me who in the top 154/160lb. class Martinez WOULD'VE beaten Saturday.
Couldn't agree with you more, Sudo. Floyd did his usual "shoulder/bitch roll" and eeked out a split decision against DLH. Manny earned much respect with his willingness to step in the fire. Can't you see the poster in your head? "Maywetaher vs. Pacquiao" "Who is the true p4p king?"
I had the same thoughts when I saw Moorer. There was one clip where he says something along the lines of "Manny, you have to take your shots and get out of there, because he's gonna want to wrestle you". Really Michael? Thank you Captain Obvious. Michale Moorer? C'mon Freddie.
Pac-man, Shmaq-man.....I love this Manny-fest after the "De La Hoya Ass-Whippnig". Hatton we have to see to believe. Cotto would kill him. Case closed. Enough w/ the Pac-man bullshit. He's great....but remember, he fought for the 1st time @ lightweight (Diaz), who was a ****ing punching bag, & then fought for the 1st time @ welterweight against a weight-drained Oscar. I smell hype.
My first ever PPV purchase was Cotto Malignaggi. Been watching boxing for 20 + years. Cotto is my favorite boxer, hands down. My first live fight was this past February, Cotto vs. Jennings. It sort of happened by accident. I was sitting around at work and a co-worker saw the ad in the paper and said "How about we go to this thing?" And I said, "Why not?" I paid $100 for very decent seats. Didn't care it was Jennings, and knew what the outcome would be along w/ the rest of the world, but all I can say is it was worth it. As cool as some of the undercard moments were, NOTHING compared to the moment Cotto hit the ring. DAMN. The place went nuts. On June 13th, it will be on another level, w/ the parade/atmosphere and all. (Mind you, I'm Dominican. I was an honorary Boricua for a day. We love Cotto too.) Someday, I want to check out a fight in Vegas. But MSG is the mecca for a reason. NY is NY. Period. Enjoy. Soak it up.
Looking forward to more inside the camp stuff with all that's gone on in the last year w/ Cotto. Also, they may dig into the reported drama in the Pac camp. Also want to get a better peek at Cotto's trainer. This show never really dissapoints. HBO is stellar with this stuff.
Many agree with you. including me. I believe Mayweather only agreed to March 13th, assuming Manny would say no. Roach, if you recall, had originally stated March was too soon to fight, and nobody would disagree with that, but then they turned around and agreed, a shock, I'm sure to Mayweather. Now it's the testing. Floyd is a class A ***. End of story.:bottle:
DLT...Asking a fighter to wear a certain type of glove and asking him to commit to a style of testing that's unprecedented are two different things. Plus, I'm glad Manny asked for a steep penalty for the weight after the BS Floyd pulled w/ Marquez. Even though Marquez agreed to take the $, that was a Floyd-Bitchesque move, giving himself the advantage and saying F-You to the other guy. And that in a nutshell is why I still say F$CK MAYWEATHER.
P.S. You would think they have the same choices, but I don't see it that way. Manny has the 140lb. pool should he choose, plus that thing we call HEART, which will means he'll fight pretty much anybody...NOT the case w/ Floyd. Case & Point: The rumors already swirling about him fighting Mathew Hatton in the UK. Again, Floyd-Bitchesque.
The fight, if it happens would be $50. I for one would be fine splitting that with at least one person to watch Paulie get his teeth kicked in. Definitely worth it.
Rod, I didn't expect it to be easy. Don't be a prick. If anything it went TOO easy in the beginning, all major pioints agredd upon, then this BS. I'm just saying March is around the corner, and although I don't believe it's all staged, it works out great SHOULD the fight actually happen. My guess was at least 6 months of talks and expected the fight in the fall/winter 2010.
Believe me I agree it probably won't happen, but I do think it would provide an opportunity for Marquez to throw Floyd off and scramble his head up a bit.
