prime roy is about as near to unbeatable as you can get.
with that said, people need to stop making so many excuses for his losses. roy isn't the only fighter who ever fought at 34 and he isn't the only fighter who's had to cut weight for a fight.
dirrells/dawson/ward
the first two don't seem to enjoy fighting enough for me. i wouldn't be that surprised if dirrell won the rest of his fights in the tournament. dawson seemed untouchable in his last couple fights, regardless of who they were against. ward's a tough son of a bitch who just wants to win. you can say he only won because of a home town ref, but there won't be an asterisk on his record that says anything about it. and kessler didn't look so good before the headbutts/excessive holding either. with all due respect to kessler, it's not ward's fault he folded.
depends on how you define prime for vitali. vit was 25 in his first pro fight after kickboxing for years. his defense was utter shit back then but he likely had more power and better legs. his chin is seriously iron, probably better than mike's, but i think he would've looked like marg against mosley at that point. even a chin like vitali's can only take so much. he just couldn't avoid a punch. mike by midway ko. as he's aged he's gotten technically superior. his punches don't have the snap they used to but he throws a lot more. he's also arguably gotten more accurate as seen against lewis. i would say the lewis fight was the best version of vitali. yeah we know lewis wasn't in shape etc etc excuse after excuse. lewis didn't want a rematch and a chance to come in better shape and supposedly "annihilate" vitali. it's his fault for not proving he was the technically better man. he won on a cut after getting his ass kicked for 20 minutes.
the punch that caused the cut, it didn't even land solid, it scraped over vitali's eyelid.
anyway, that version of vitali would definately be able to stay away from enough of mike's bombs to go 12 rounds. he throws enough punches that he could hang in there on the cards, but mike moved enough back then to make vitali's unorthodox punches look innaccurate. at the same time, with vitali's height and underrated reflexes mike wouldn't be landing as many of his leaping punches as usual. he'd dig to the body and throw enough combos to get the job done though. i take mike in a comfortable but competitive decision in what would be fight of the year material. 8 rounds to 4 or maybe even 7 to 5.
Vitali is as good as they get but nothing on two legs beats prime Mike Tyson. Period.
i sort of agree. tyson the mover instead of tyson the slugger has more than a shot at any man who's ever boxed imo.
i'm not one of those guys who always picks an old-ish timer against floyd or any other active fighter. but i think duran could put the pressure on floyd and decision him. 7 rounds to 5. most of floyds rounds would be in the early going before durans stamina starts to surface.
wow, thought wlad was a little classier than that. i'd be lying if i said i didn't lose a little bit of respect for him after reading that. valuev's done the best he could with what he had, and becoming a heavyweight champ even today is hardly something to laugh at. he's probably the clumsiest heavyweight i've ever seen but he still works his ass off i'm sure.
you can tell trash talking is unnatural for shane, but at least he's saying things that are relevant. mayweather talks about jheri curls and calls people "dummys." if he was a young pro maybe it'd be something you can ignore, but beyond 30 years of age that's just sad.
mayweather on the other hand really is a stuttering idiot. i thought he was close to tears in that interview with that rapper. i think mayweather will decision mosley, and mosley won't have any excuses. if mayweather were to lose though you'd hear everything from steroids to the judges being paid off to a biased ref to illegal handwraps.
zaveck ain't exactly pound for pound material but he's no bum. i think he'd take collazo. he'd be out of his league against the other big welters though, except for maybe berto.
it really is impressive, but pac beating mab and morales is still better. imo mayweather will only deserve to be number one again once he beats pac. or if pac keeps fighting the josh clotteys and floyd keeps fighting people like mosley. one or two more fights like that and i'd put pac back at 2.
it always seemed pretty obvious to me he knew. like he just slipped and fail on the needle a few times a week for a few months? doesn't really change anything for me. i've liked shane as long as i've watched boxing.
his defense is usually better than it was against ward. froch probably realises dirty fighting bothers kessler, but i doubt he'll get away with much of it in denmark
i'd rather see him and williams again. he lost more clealy to marg though, and he'd potentially make more money there. he probably wants to prove he only lost because marg cheated.
American fighters never get respect. Either it's other countries that want to see our fighters downfall or it's our own citizens hating on each other due to our diversity. "Americans" have went from a prideful nation, to a disgraceful one.
lots of my favorites are american, but i'm not a fan of blind patriotism in boxing.
why do people portray mayweather as some kind of evil genius/boxer? it's not hard to get under his skin either. we seen it when he was on the verge of tears in that interview with r.a.
No hes not.
Dzinziruk is the number 1 154 Pounder now.
maravilla would put hands all over that boy. he's good. he's got a real crisp jab and a real textbook defense, but he's just not fast enough/paul williams enough to hang. martinez would run circles around him almost as bad as he did pavlik.
war adamek and arreola. i'm expecting this to be the best heavyweight fight in awhile. i seriously doubt adamek would even do as good as arreola did against vitali so i'm not rooting for adamek as a possible future hw champ. i really like both guys and wouldn't mind seeing either win.
Now everyone is saying he has a bad chin because he got dropped by a punch he didnt see coming from a blazing fast boxer.
Please dont band wagon hop after tomorrow.
even if he gets dropped by cintron he'll get up and go back to working that ass over
Agreed. I was only referencing the post fight interviews. People are taking this out of context.
Can we all at least agree that Abraham showed no class in losing to Dirrell?
define class. he was pissed off about a situation he thought was unfair. dirrell's known for falling to avoid fighting. he was feeling a lot of frustration because dirrell was wasting time.
