Come on burner your seriously getting out of hand with this paul williams shit man...i got pwill at number 3 in my p4p list but you gotta give up on this already...people just don't like or follow the dude
That's just stating the obvious.
I guess I feel, as obvious as it is, it makes all arguments about his position until AFTER the fight a little pointless.
Maybe I just feel that way because I'm never truly sure Paul is going to get past a guy like Cintron.
I like him, I enjoy watching him, but I'm not sure where I rank him. I have a few questions.
I mean, if pressed, I'd say Williams TKO 9, but I have no confidence in that pick.
I think any reasonable person can agree that Paul William's Pound for Pound stock, though, depends on him winning fights against solid fringe contenders like Cintron big. If he doesn't win tonight I don't think anyone should argue about him being in top 5 p4p anymore.

the problem with williams for me is just who has fought and also how he performs in some of them
his best win for me was probably margarito but he still nearly lost it if margarito hadn't of given up so many early rounds
he was outboxe
by quintana in the first fight devastated him in the second fight i give him that nuff said
but the best he has looked is against guys like winky who are terrible style match ups for him
martinez was anyone's guess as to who won
he has yet to beat a real top fighter in a dominant fashion
he is still a heck of a fighter though he has a chance of beating anyone from 147-160
he has shown that he can be outboxed though his heart gets him through though so he's dangerous
hence why no one wants to fight him
Margarito lost those rounds because Paul Williams won them. Margarito didn't "give them up" by choice. You've done a nice job discrediting Paul Williams in every way possible. Proving the TS point.
I don't know why people beat the drums for Chad Dawson who comes into his fights as big as a Cruiserweight to go from Lightheavyweight to 168, but at the same time shit on Paul Williams (Spray Resistant, you know I'm referring to you and a few others) for fighting at a lower division because the fighters there are better and more marketable.
Does anyone think Felix Sturm could beat Kirkland, Angulo, Cintron, or Paul Williams himself? I don't. The Middleweight division sucks right now and there are no fighters there that HBO would pay for Williams to fight.
And yet people keep saying that Williams is too big to be fighting at 154 or even 147. This is what Burner means by saying that the guy gets too much flack from some people.
Good points. I cant understand why a guy who just weighed 152 Pounds for a 154 Pound fight should be at 168 and 175.

One thing that hurt Williams was that loss to Quintana had he won the first time then he'd possibly be ahead of Cotto or had more drawing power to make the Cotto fight and eventhough he won the rematch it took aways some of his merit and mystique. Men who are the most feared don't have off nights against guys like quintana.
Not really IMO. That lost made him look vulnerable and he still couldnt get fights. He is the most feared fighter in the sport IMO because no one wants to fight him. Most people forget that the Quintana fight was a last minute replacement and the guy he was suppose to fight pulled out...........Cintron.
Almost every publication has Paul Top 3-5.

I was at his fight with Wright in Vegas last April.
I was amazed at his workrate and stamina. He looked fresh in the late rounds. The only other fighter that has that kind of workrate and stamina is Joe Calzaghe.
I was also at that fight in Vegas and it seemed like Paul never stopped punching. I have all the respect in the world for Paul Williams b/c the man never seems to fight at the same weight and goes wherever the best fight is. He's KO'D men at welterweight, jr MW, and Middleweight. Paul's biggest mistake was not taking the money being offered to fight Pavlik. I know it wasn't right but now look at Martinez, but at least Martinez is a real warrior and is willing to face Paul again.
I have to put Martinez ahead of Paul Williams because their fight was so very, very close it could have gone either way. At the time, I remember feeling Paul did enough to skate by, but easily saw how Martinez could have won.
That said, you can't take capturing the 160 lb. title too lightly, even in Pavlik isn't the most solid champion in history- so until a rematch Martinez gets the nod over Paul.
I guess it's hard to argue putting Cotto ahead of Paul after his loss:
And based not just on how he's looked but who he's fought his last few fights, I can't argue putting Hopkins ahead of Williams, either.
I know for sure Manny, Floyd and I'll keep Shane there depending on Paul's performance tonight.
If I'm going to just give props based on what I perceive as skill and fighting decent opposition I have to seriously consider where I put Dawson, too. At least for now; I know he has his doubters.
Realistically, Paul could probably slide up behind Floyd and Manny if he wins huge tonight. Anything else and I think he'd loss his spot to Dawson depending on how he looks against Pascal.

Especially with how close his fight with Williams was. Anything less than a stellar performance tonight and I think Paul losses his spot to Dawson depending on how he looks against Pascal.
For me, at least.
When it comes to respect, Martinez should be in the top 10 P4P most definitely. If Paul dominates tonight, then Paul deserves to be in there as well.
Martinez is moving up to fight the toughest guys while Paul has been fighting at weights where he is like a giant to other guys. Paul needs to be at 160 and 168 to be a legit contender, not at 147 and 154.
Did you really just say a guy who weighed in at 152 Pounds for a 154 Pound fight should be at 168?
Lets be real bro.

That's shit dude. There's nobody for him to fight at 168 besides Bute. And nobody at 160 that HBO would pay for either besides Martinez. He has every right to fight at 147-154 if that's where the better fighters fight.
