your post just proved to me you don't/didn't know what the hell you are talkin about. Roy at 40 is much better than a "washed up" Lacy. Lacy has taken too many head shots and it shows in the ring with his pauses where he's think about doing something and the time decides its too late.
Did you watch the fight???
RE: Does Roy have a chance against Lacey?
Roy should definitely dominate Lacey, but my concern is Roy's training and work rate. The last time Roy has really trained for a fight is when he fought against Tarver the second time when he hired Mikey Shilestein (spelling?)...it was unfortunate that he got caught early. Ever since that fight it seems like Roy just does enough to get ready for the "type" of opponents that he has been facing. In addition, I don't think his corner is good for him at this point. They seem to cater to Roy's ego and don't really push him to the point that he needs to get to at this age. At 40, a fighter has to ride that line of over-training before a fight or he has to stay in shape year round and then fine tune in training camp. Roy still has amazing reflexes at 40 but his work rate is a lot less. One would think that he would reinvent himself in training and fighting style to exploit those still great natural abilities. Calzaghe made Roy look old and I felt that he could have easily won that fight with better training.
Lacey is garbage but if Roy looks old by buying time on the ropes it could open a window of opportunity for Lacey that shouldn't even be there. So, with that said, I'm excited for the Roy and I hope we see glimse of a new Roy. I hope that Roy wins impressively which hopefully will possibly lead to a great retirement finale. I don't want to see that guy get hurt and I know that he wants to go out on top and with a good last fight memory.
I pick Roy, but with some concerns...
Cotto will cut first
Based on Cotto's last fight, I believe that the cut that Cotto suffered will haunt him for the rest of his career. That was the type of cut that could reopen every fight thereafter. Both fighters cut but Manny hasn't suffered a severe cut like Cotto has. In addition, the cut below Cotto's lip often reopens.
More devasting than cuts, I think the right hook could be a key in this fight. As Cotto works to land his left hook to the body, he'll be open for a right hook to the head. Demarcus Corely was able to land that punch at will in their fight.
Who won the fight?
The first time I watched the fight (live) I had Cotto by 7-5. The other times I watched the fight I got a draw a few times and Mosley 7-5 a couple of times. If I total all of my scores I would get Cotto slightly edging. I agree with some of the other posts, Mosley fought the wrong fight and when he figured Cotto out it was a bit late. 37 year old Mosley with the right fight plan KO's Cotto late because we know now that he can't stand consistant heat throughout an entire fight.
Ultimately, the fight could have gone either way and with saying that, whether you are a Cotto fan or Mosley fan (like me) then you have to accept the outcome. Cotto won the fight and thats that....us true boxing fans (over age 30) have seen worse decisions and this doesn't really seem like a bad decision. Mosley fought the wrong fight early on and he paid for it....he lost the fight.
Clottely on the other hand deserved to win his fight. He earned it and they robbed him because...well, you know the boxing business?!?
:boxing:
just to clarify, I because I see people not including PRans sometimes when they count the number of American fighters in the p4p lists and other similiar situations. I respect Puerto Rico, and am proud to say they are part of the USA.
Puerto Rico is part of America, and is 'subject to U.S. jurisdiction and sovereignity'.
http://www.state.gov/s/inr/rls/10543.htm
just because its a Commonwealth instead of a state doesnt mean its a seperate nation. the leader of Puerto Rico's government is the President of the United States, innit?
you know whos in the same exact position as Puerto Rico? The United States Virgin Islands. They have their own Olympic team and everything too. but are you try to tell me the United States Virgin Islands arent part of the United States?
Out of respect for the Puerto Rico fighters, we let them be called what they want. Just because some European Conquerors said, "I'll take that Island and guess what...we'll tax them, but we won't let them vote". Puerto Ricans don't get US Passports and they have to get green cards to stay in the "mainland of the US". So I say, "let the Puerto Ricans be Puerto Ricans".
Re:Should Boxers leave Religion out of the ring?
Recent examples of boxers bringing up their gods in the ring include Andre Ward after the Kessler fight where he refers to the Christian faith and Anthony Small where he refers to the Muslim faith during the build up of his most recent fight. Of course Pacquiao is probably the most prominent boxer now who regularly refers to a god, again conditioned under the Christian religion.
With many religious precepts now debunked by science, more and more people are beginning to realize that all religions are likely to be purely superstition, with no real evidence to support them other than a collection of far-fetched stories which compare quite readily to any other work of fiction.
Is it time that boxers leave religion out of the ring for good?
Interesting interview on the "god delusion" psychological condition:
Now religion by definition is a set of beliefs held by an individual or group. By definition Atheism is a religion, a religion who's main tenet is that there is no god. Is it organized, some argue yes and some argue no, but this isn't the point. Commonly atheism is coined as anti-religion and it is not. Academic research on the subject simply proves that.
To give an adequate response to this post, we shouldn't confuse people's religious beliefs with whether or not God exists. These are entirely two different subjects all together.
Some of the most aggressive propagators of religion are atheists, who seem to want to convert every person on the earth. It's kind of funny that atheists benefit from 'Freedom of Religion' and 'Freedom of Speech', yet they seem to want to promote some Orwellian Society in which there is no 'Freedom of Speech' Or 'Religion' when outside of the atheistic framework. I feel that this post is straight out of the book, "1984".
Do you want the government to control everything?...including what a boxers says after a fight? Do you want to see a good fight or make sure that he is an atheist...or make sure he doesn't say anything about religion? What is your goal by this post? Really?
This is a boxing forum, so keep it on boxing and EVERYTHING that comes with it! Who cares about what the fighter believes in....we want to see a good fight. We want to see the sweet science at it's best.
Sense the post mentioned science. Science is relative to the individual scientist. Science is not monolithic in the sense that it is hardcore without a doubt unrefutable. One scientist says this and another says the opposite. Use your brain and pick your own path...stop being sheeple and do some real academic research and then cross reference...if you are able.
Youtube and wikipedia aren't valid academic sources of knowledge, although there may be some truth therein.
These 3 so-called Afro-American p4p greats, along with Steve Cunningham are about to get exposed for what they are-more or less ordinary or not extraordinary. Its really sad when you think that they, along with Mayweather are the main representatives of AA boxing today. Only bright spot right now is Mike Jones and even he has yet to be tested properly. Ok, Tavoris Cloud is very good but he doesn't get talked about nearly as much as Bradley, Ward or Mayweather. Kirkland was supposed to be the REAL star among em, but now...dunno, REAL stars dont get ktfo by a Japanese with 8 kos on his record in 1 round. He is still a capable fighter but this proved he is def vulnerable.
Dawson? Dawson may get redeemed if he beats Bhop impressively and I'm not sure he will. I do think he'll win, but not without struggling.
Why are you making it an issue of race? Who uses a hairstyle for racial or ethnic distinction? As if all people who wear an Afro are black...so not true. As if all Americans who happen to be descendants of African slaves all gathered one day and said today we will be called "******s...no we don't like that let's go with Colored. No that's not good either, let's go with Negro. Nah that's sound too Latin. Let's go with Black...nah to radical. Let's go with Afro-American...no wait African-American, that's sounds really cool and inclusive."
Keep it on boxing and boxing skills. Who cares what race the fighter is, if he is good then he is good. Simple as that.
I was so impressed by vitali at teh weigh in. for a 40y old, he look is amazing shape for his fight. it puts in perspectivr to other heavyweight challengers especially from states like chambers, arreola, toney, rahman, austin, briggs, who are all in pretty awful shape. even likes of solis, tyson fury, all carry alot of fat.
Vitali were basically fat free yesterday.
he will probably fight Haye and Valuev then retire.
This is probably the best attribute to the Klitschko brothers is their conditioning. Most of the heavyweights of today don't train well and it is clear from their appearance and performance. I won't say that don't work hard, but they don't work hard enough and they don't do enough endurance training and fast-twitch muscle endurance training. Because the Klitschko brothers train in those areas along with a style that waste unnecessary energy, their size gives them the ability to dominate. They will continue to dominate until the other get realistic about being the best. I think Haye trained correctly but he isn't as mentally confident as he claimed. If he was, it would have been more realistic with an injured toe that he went for a KO in every round. Instead he fought like he left his scrotum in the locker room. That basically tells me that Haye is confident in his hurting skills but not confident is ability to take a punch or he is simply scared of getting hit.
I think the Klitschko brothers are good and the best in this era hands down, but they have more to prove to down in the ATGs list of heavyweights. IMO...Vitali shouldn't waste his time with the Jolly Russian Giant. There is no money in that fight...it would be an easy win for him...and it wouldn't be exciting at all, nobody wants to see that. It would be much better to get a fight that would raise his stock on the ATG list. James Toney (future Hall of Famer) or a rematch with Lennox Lewis (Future Hall of Famer) is much better for him. We know that he won't fight his brother but this would be epic if he did. That's a fight win, lose, or draw that would go down in fight history and everyone would be at the edge of their seat leading up to the fight until the last bell.
She's like a female version of James Kirkland. :lol1:
That is a beast of a woman.
NO! She is a boy version of that guy named Anne Wolfe. The white girl wasn't that bad skill wise. She lacked head movement after throwing her punches. I can tell she has a pretty decent trainer. Another problem is that she didn't look 135. If she gonna fight at that weight she's gotta put on some muscle. She's move technically sound then Anne Wolfe's son. She's gotta big heart as well because she took quite a few hard body blows and she didn't even take a knee. I was surprised. If Anne Wolfe's son had the boxing skill of the girl, she'd be really good. Anne Wolfe's son fights like his dad uncontrolled aggression. That's why Laila Ali would have boxed the **** out of him. That would have been the first man vs. woman women's championship fight.
Didnt Roy say he DONT fight on his toes, he fights a bit flat footed?
Thanks for the correction I misunderstood what Roy said. Berto is still very top heavy and in my opinion not flat footed enough for his style. He lifts his heels a little too much to stand toe to toe with top fighters.
Head shots KO but body shots with power make you want to quit. Getting hit to the body sucks.
True indeed...body shots make you quit but shot to the sternum or right on the heart will make you think death is near
My post was purely based on boxing opinion and had nothing to do with race. It seems that you are the racists!
I won't play into your racists game especially when I'm not a Black Supremacist. Let's look at the record compared to the fighters I listed.
David Gaye
Samuel Peter
Eddie Chambers
Ruslan Chagaev
Hasim Rahman
Tony Thompson
Sultan Ibragamov
Ray Austin
Chris Byrd
Calvin No Shock Brock
Eliseo Castillo (I trained in the same gym as this guy...he sucks)
DaVarryl Williamson
Darnell Nicholson
Fabio Moli
Corrie Sanders
Jameel McCline
Ray Mercer
Francios Botha
Charles Shufford
Derrick Jefferson
Monte Barrett
David Bostice
Paea Wolfgramm

Lennox Lewis
Larry Donald
Vaughn Bean
Ross Purity (I trained with him as well...he's a beast)
Orlin Norris
Timo Hoffman
Chris Byrd
Obed Sullivan
Ed Mahone
Herbie Hide
No need to mention the rest. Now this was to get some people to think but I guess it brought out the KKK, Skin Heads, White Resistance, and all the other hate mongers in the world.
If you take time to READ the heading it should provoke good dialogue between serious boxing fans. Compare my list of the 15 fighters to list of fighters the Klits have fought. It doesn't even come close to matching up. As I said they are good, but not great yet! They have proven themselves to be the best in this era hands down. But Great fights who go down in history if they retired today. Noway! They go down in history of being the best in their era but not G.O.A.T...but Wlad if he keeps fighting and winning he could get there.
These guys just don't know boxing or any basic level of sport science. Most of them never even played an organized sport outside of riding the bench in High school. Many of the smart guys know that every athlete is different and responds differently to injuries. But one that is debatable for sane intelligent few is that their records don't compare. 3 years into Ali's career he challenged for the title. 4 years into Vitali's career he was still in the pop-tart charts...quit on his stool losing the WBO...then inherited the WBA by fighting Orlin Norris. 2 years into Wlad's career he fought Ross Purity and lost then went back into the pop-tart charts for 2 years and then won the WBO against Chris Byrd.
A different era of heavyweight fighting. To be Heavyweight Champ in Ali's time was just as good as being a President or a King. Now Heavyweights don't bring in the numbers like welters, jr. welters, middle, and super middle (Roy Jones 90's era)...even lightweight for that matter.
Wait, questioning my athleticism? Post a picture of yourself dude. Id love to see it. I have one of me up, so post one of you. And what are you talking about, Wlad and Vitali are kings, they make more money than Ali ever did, they get more fans in the stands than Ali ever did, they have more worldwide paying viewers than Ali ever did, they have a bigger market share of the countries they fight in than Ali ever did. Youre a joke. Wlad got paid 30% of Ali's entire net worth for his last fight...hilarious...and Ali has had 30 years of interest and huge growth to allow his money grow and its not like he can spend it on anything.
Go to my profile page and see my picture as an All-Conference College Running Back.
Comparing Ali to the Klits is like comparing your local mayor to any U.S. President. Ali was and still is world renown. Ali makes 50+ millions dollars per year just being Muhammad Ali. That is a living legend. Ali sold the rights to his name and memorabilia for $150 million. The Klits are nowhere near that...many people don't even know who they are. You can go to any country in the world and say Muhammad Ali and they know exactly who you are talking about. How many stars and heads of state flew to Zaire to watch Ali vs. Foreman? Remember the fight was cancelled and the people stayed. If you consider the amount of money Ali made vs. the cost of living and the money the Klits are making vs. the cost of living isn't doesn't even come close to adding up. You are delusional...nuff said!
Marciano would be a SMW today he would be no trouble at all for either Vk or Wlad.
I don't know any Super Middle Weights that weigh 178-192+ lbs. He would've been a cruiser weight...not even light heavyweight which 175 remember. But your saying he weighed 168...Amazing...just amazing. At least use google if you don't know before you post.
I guess you're right. Idk the KO artists are more exciting haha
It's how many KO's you have it's who you KO. Timing is important as well look at Sugar Ray Lenard's record. 36-3-1-25...but who except an idiot would say Sugar Ray wasn't a great fighter...one of the G.O.A.T. Look at Marciano another great fighter with 43 KOs. There are a lot of great...not good...but great fighters that don't have a lot of KOs.
I always thought golota to be a solid fighter... Would have gave any of the brothers problems?
I post a list of 15 fighters that I thought would give the brothers problems and Golota was one of them. If Golota was mentally stable he would put up a good fight. The reason why I say that is because he had a well rounded range of punches. A decent stiff jab and really good hooks and upper-cuts. He didn't have great head movement, but for a big guy he was pretty athletic. I think it would have made for a good fight.
Thats because its Diva Haye pissed off that he was exposed in the ring. He was exposed as the same fighters he claimed only came for a paycheck. Those fighters Diva Haye claimed only came for a check put up a better fight against Wlad and weren't on the backfoot looking to counter all night long like a puta with the exception of Ibragimov(I respect him more tho because he didn't talk trash).
Ibragimov was a very talented underrated fighter too bad he retired.
Arum: "Floyd is a psychological coward."
Floyd: "Cotto lives really far away."
Someone should have told him Argentina's Baldmomir lives a bit farther.
Also... What fckin fanbase did Baldomir have?? I know Floyd likes to pretend it's all about "fanbase."
Floyd... why?
Why did you have to be such an unstable mental case? Trippin over your own excuses... crying for beating journeymen... why?
Floyd, you could have been a champ worthy of more admiration but you chose to act like a dumb fck in the public arena. You chose to fight BS fights and act like a WWF character instead of being a throwback fighter with heart and desire to fight the best.
Floyd... You shat on your legacy. Garbage legacy encrusted in glitter like a bad fckin costume. You will never be respected on a real level because unfortunately for you... men with names like Leonard, Ali, Robinson etc, have already shown what it means to be a real fighter and a real champion.
You can fool some of the rookie Playstation generation... but you can't fool me.
First off I'll say I'm not a Mayweather fan at all. But I'm starting to thing that isn't always fear with this guy. I think his camp looks at the career of the opponent and where its going. If he leaves the guys alone in another weight class and then unifies the belts. It makes more money and roar leading up to the fight. No doubt Floyd has turned down a lot of fights but to say it's solely based on fear is too easy...it doesn't take much thought to come up with that. On top of that it isn't a good fight for Cotto style wise. Cotto was chasing Margarito and started out that way with Pac. He is naturally a head first guy and fighters catch him off balance when they fight off angles like Chop Chop Corely did. Cotto is good but he doesn't have a well rounded boxing skill set to even come close to beating Floyd. Styles make fights. Fighters with a good skills set give Cotto problems. You might Margarito doesn't have a good skill set, well he does have one better skill than Cotto and that is footwork. Only real fans and fighters will know what I'm talking about. Cotto is flat footed and head first and that why he got destroyed by Margarito and I predict he'll do it again and Pac did the same. Now another flat-footed jerky fighter that fights solely off of quickness and power is Mosley and that fight was close...and that was a good match up for Cotto. Guys like Margarito, Pac, and Floyd destroy Cotto. Cotto can't reinvent himself at this point his warrior spirit is still wounded and I don't think he'll ever beat a super elite fighter like Pac or Floyd. Just wait until all of this hype wears off to boost the fight against Ortiz...as much as I hate to say it but Floyd will destroy Ortiz. Now to get Ortiz a bounce back fight he should look for Cotto...Cotto can't handle a good southpaw.
You have to look at this from two angles. One, pre-retirement Foreman ie 1977. Two, post retirement but in top heavyweight shape ie 1991-1997. In the first scenario Foreman probably would win because he was somewhat fearless although Ali did some of that out of him. He lost his last fight (pre-retirement) against Jimmy Young, a person that he should have beaten. Tyson beat a lot of his opponents before the fight and after they felt his power. I would think that Tyson's punches would have been a little more heavier since he is 5'11" 218-222 in his prime. Foreman is 6'4" 222-230. One could argue arm/leg extension vs. height/weight portion, but since Foreman didn't get full extension of his punches I think that's a weak argument. Tyson's punches would be heavier based on height/weight portion which just one aspect of punching power.
The second scenario, Tyson would have easily beaten Foreman comparing his performances against Holyfield, Morrison, Moorer, Briggs, and Schulz (a fight he clearly lost). Whether Tyson ducked Foreman or not, it doesn't matter once they were in the ring it would have been another situation. Everyone knows that Tyson battled internal Demons of self-doubt even when he was clearly better than his opponent. Foreman would have taken way too many shots and a 90's Tyson could have easily avoided Foreman's shots. It would have been an easy fight for Tyson in the 90's.
Wait, is he really asking for blood tests!?!
Remember he lives in South Africa so he knows he won't get a fight without him taking a test. He's putting it on the other guy to draw attention from the cesspool that he lives in.

I'd add to honorable mention these fighters based on skill, their fight vs. Ali, and/or their legacy: Chuck Wepner, Jimmy Young, Jerry Quarry, Bob Foster, Henry Cooper, Karl Mildenberger, and Ernie Terrell.

:peeright:
Mosley can't handle Khan's pace. Mosley is more powerful and has a one shot Knock down or KO opportunity. His age won't let him have the output he needs to win. Once he gets tired he'll hold a lot and if Khan puts together a good body attack and stays consistent with it he could KO and retire Mosley. It could really get bad for Mosley against Khan.
Will you give him his just do? or keep hating on the KHAN-QUER!!!!
Khan's on that star level now so he can always say that it's not enough money for him or the common..."I'm just a fighter and my managers make the fights". I don't think he'll ever fight him again unless one of the slimy promoters build Prescott up to a mandatory fight which would bring in the PPV they need to make money.
