I will answer with a question to the question: What would be the bigger upset? Cotto over Mayweather...or Douglas over Tyson?
The more unexpected it is, the more of an upset it is.
(Douglas, but I think you're asking to spur conversation, not get answers.)
Post fight it's always interesting to see how the fans score the fight compared to the judges. Every once in a blue moon I post a link to Eye On The Ring here, it's a fan built site for round by round fan cards, with some aggregation.
Eye On The Ring: Gennady Golovkin vs Saul Alvarez
I did help with the initial idea years ago, and it's still the only fully neutral place for fan cards (that I know of) that's still going.
If you guys want to share your full cards, round by round cards for fans are up at Eye On The Ring. If you like to score the fights, it's a good site to know about.
Eye On The Ring Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn
A bit more information is necessary. 20 million before or after taxes? If that's the before taxes amount, then no, because most winners end up blowing that amount through foolish and financially uneducated choices in a few years - professional athletes or not.
More tie ins with MMA perhaps.
A change in fan culture; no other sport has the aggressive put-down of other fans YDKSOB style - with other sports, fans are happy to have casual folks watch the game or match with them.
The fight page is up at Eye On The Ring if you want to share your fan card. Some of those middle rounds were close, to be fair.
Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana Fan Cards.
What a great way to end the year.

I was bracing myself for another bad decision for a while there. The fight page is up at Eye On The Ring if you want to share your fan card. Some of those middle rounds were close, to be fair.

If someone is incredibly naive and stupid they can believe that the only guys using PEDs are the ones getting caught. Boxing has consistently been grouped with track and cycling as being the most overrun in terms of PEDs. I think the reality is that something like 80%+ of the top tier of the sport is circumventing or cheating the testing in one way or another.
This exactly.
Ali because I read up on him and I find him facinating as a person, as a historical figure, as a boxer.
Tyson because watching him got me into boxing.
Morales because he has so much heart.
I agree. I'm not going to get into the "Whos the better boxer" debate, but Pacqiuao's achievements in his resume and career far outpass Mayweathers right now, but Mayweather has great achievements too, and a very solid skillset. I think they're both legends. And its a shame a lot of this forum decides to nitpick each of their resumes (thinking they are winning some argument) and think they are boxing experts, instead of just admiring both fighters for what they have achieved.
As for the original question, I think Ward is todays greatest boxer, but as many people pointed out, it is all opinion in this sport.
Put fairly well, I agree.
First of all, religion is a great thing to have in your life, but I think Manny is putting on a big act. Its getting old, especially at the weigh in when Max asked him why he is smiling. Get real Manny. I'm not saying that Manny isn't trying to draw closer to God, but he's throwing it out there to the point where its starting to sound fake.
Well put, I agree. Enthusiasm beyond a certain point becomes hard to believe.
People will still buy Mayweather and Pacquiao PPV's.
This... a boycott would result, in what % loss? Probably a drop in the bucket. I'm all for thinking of ideas to make positive changes, but I don't think a boycott is effective. (Altho it might make individual fans feel like they are taking some action, however small it may be, and that might feel good.)
I'd say no rematch and let the resounding and defeaning silence win you the fight already won.
Exactly right. Pacquiao seeking a rematch is very suspicious, actually. If he really believes he won and knows that the fans know it too, a rematch proves something everyone is already convinced of in the first place. So... what is the point of pushing for a rematch? Suspicious...
