Skill- Mawyeather
Heart- Gatti or Mickey Ward
Dedication To Fans- Morales for brawling when he can box
Determination- Hopkins (for staying in shape this long and fighting the same fight, every fight)
Guts- Gatti (for the beatings he takes constantly)
Honor- Juan Manuel Marquez
Staying Will Power- James Toney (long, great career in multiple weight classes)
Charisma Mayweather (love him or hate him, you still listen)
Unfortunately, I sort of have northern European facial features. High cheek bones, etc. It seems like people with my features cut easier, which I think is true.
I broke my nose my first fight about 1 minute into the 1st round. Good straight right down the pipe that hit flush on my nose, and it broke at the bridge. Thankfully, I don't have a crooked nose!
Also, I tend to cut easily, sort of like Gatti. I've had a cut over my right eye and also one on my cheekbone. I suppose that's what happens when you're a southpaw and tend to drop your right a bit when you throw a straight left =/
For those of you who haven't boxed, YES getting that god awful Q-tip stuck up your nose hurts like a bitch.
Well, I've finally found the brain-washed moron of the boards, Mike Tyson, Jr.
It absolutely amazes me at the amount of hype and marketing that you've believed in regards to Tyson.
I strongly suggest you broaden your horizons in regards to boxing. I'd also suggest that next time someone posts a thread like this, you avoid it like the plague. I'll run out of adjectives to describe your boxing knowledge, or lack thereof, in a short time.
Dear God.
I aint even baggin on Roy Jones so haters freeze yerselves and jest discuss tis matta cooly ight?
Ta question is......was Roy Jones crazy fo wanting Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitszcho afta successfully beating John Ruiz? I'm curious, it's evident. Jones was braggin on ma favorite TV Channel, "BET" bout how he gonna beat Klitszcho and Tyson. So what ta deal meng? You think he was crazy and wasn't thinking right?
Reading nonsense like this makes my brain hurt. I understand the need for some people not to enunciate when they speak, but to type *exactly* how you speak kills me.
As far as the thread, no I don't think he's nuts. He had the skills to compete as long as he could dance and stay away. Klitszcho has too much of a physical advantage over Roy. Don't get me started on Tyson.
Wlad won't win he sucks monkey ass even if Peter is unproven he has to be better than Corey Sanders.
You didn't answer the question in the least bit.
I think if Peter wins, it would be better for boxing in the short-term. If Wladimir wins, it would set him up as a #1 contender again. Wlad is probably the most gifted of any heavyweight of the past 10-15 years, however he has a suspect chin and conditioning. Having the better fighter would work out better in the long term.
hey moron I said 'it could
be true', that means maybe.
I'm speaking in general, chief. If he wanted to beat McBride, he would've tried, simple as that.
Karma for Truth, knows what he's talking about.
Mayweather will make Judah look like an amateur. Whoever said Judah's speed is just about the same is Mayweather's must be watching Floyd in slow motion and Judah in fast forward.
Funny interview, Mayweather has some good points.
Tszyu is head and shoulders above them. It's a rarity to see such power in a smaller guy. I could honestly say he has the power to knock out some middleweights if he would've moved up.
Hatton easy... IMO
King Kostya Tszyu vs Jab Judah - TKO 2nd round WIN!
King Kostya Tszyu vs Ricky Hatton - TKO 12th round LOSS!
You can't compare that, Martin. We're talkinga about Tszyu fighting at his prime, which he is out of now.
Hatton's style presented problems for Tszyu. Tszyu is a more skilled fighter, he just ran into a style that doesn't match up well with his.
As far as Hatton and Judah vs. Mayweather, Hatton once again presents more of a problem. I don't care for his style or his tactics, however he matches up very well with Floyd. He can take a punch, give a punch and NEVER stops. He's not even close to being as skilled as Tszyu, Mayweather or Judah, but his style matches up well with them.
You guys are giving Judah too much credit. He's fast but not in the same class as Mayweather; not even close. The problem he presents is being a southpaw, however Floyd is too good and too smart to let that bother him or to counter it. IF they fight (and that's a big IF), I see counter left hooks over top of the right jab all night long. Floyd keeps his right too high for those straight rights to land with any frequency.
Is to come out gangbusters throwing bombs like Brewster did against Golota and surprise the dogshit out of Vitali. IF he can manage to catch Vitali off guard, then I think he might have a chance. Otherwise...
You should edit what you typed and put this in:
Come in the ring with a baseball bat, hide it in your robe, wait for Vitali to come in, then run over and hit him across the face with it repeatedly.
That's basically what Vitali is going to do to him.
Sharmba's not a bum. Technically hes a very talented fighter, he's just limited with power, and chin imo. If this fight is to set up a potential Judah - Mayweather fight then im all for it. I just don't want him dodging Hatton.
I agree with you 100%, if this was five years ago. Unfortunately, Mitchell is a warm-up fight for anyone nowadays. He's kind of like the girl dancing by herself in the corner at a party. Sure she's a quick, easy lay, but you know you want to bang the blonde who left with your buddy.
The problem with that is I don't agree with a lot of people on here, especially the ones who seem to have 10x the points of everyone else =) We're all entitled to our opinions, unless it's wrong of course!
Im not sure about head and shoulders above the rest. I think Arturo Gatti may have as much one punch power as Tszyu.
Gatti is probably my favorite fighter simply because he's fun to watch, but I just don't think he has the power he gets credit for. He never really put out someone who was recognized as having a good chin. Three fights with Ward, no knockouts...
Good choice...Flair's entrance music is great.
Ride of the Valkaries would be a good one as well.
Personally, the song "Give You Nothing" from Bad Religion would be a good fit.
I can't stand his mouth, but you have to give the kid credit for his skills.
As long as he has some GOOD QUALITY OPPONENTS in the next couple years along with some big name fights he'll be an all-time great (as long as he wins). Fighting chumps like the bum he has coming up next won't solidify him of anything other than looking for an easy payday.
Speaking of which, anyone know if it's PPV or a Boxing After Dark fight?
Sugar Ray Robinson, closely followed by Ali. Like someone said, Ali had everything but 1 punch power.
Honorable mention to Gene Tunney, Joe Louis and Hagler. Roy Jones, Jr. IF he beats Tarver, and beats him bad.
Mayweather is well on his way, he just needs to fight some great champions now and beat them, such as Judah and eventually Winky if he can pack on the weight.
tyson was not focused when douglas
beat him. he was not trained well
because he didnt have rooney in
his corner.
Sounds like some excuses. Champions don't make excuses, they overcome adversity to win. Simple as that.
To stay on topic for a moment, Mayweather is not over-rated, I think he's under-rated. He looked great against Gatti, but Gatti's style was made for Mayweather. If he has the fight with Judah, it'll be a better fight to decide, but as of now, I think he's better then we think.
Now as far as Marciano goes, he's a top 10 heavyweight easily. 49-0 is hard to do, regardless of the time period. Sure some of his fights were against bums, but to do what he did is absolutely amazing.
For someone who thinks Tyson was the all-time best, you need a reality check. Marciano beat EVERYONE in his way, Tyson couldn't get past Buster Douglas (in Tyson's prime) or Kevin McBride. Shut up and sit down.
Taylor then Jones if Jones beats Tarver.
Everyone is saying a fight with Winky would be great, but that would be one of the most boring fights I would ever endure to watch. Two counterpunchers fighting is like watching paint dry.
If Roy is well conditioned, he should fight on the outside. Tarver is a great counterpuncher, but he doesn't quite have the greatest handspeed in the world. Make Tarver come to him and jab his way in, which will leave him open to Roy's world-famous left hook counter.
Roy has a chance to win this fight, just as long as he still has *some* reflexes left. Like I’ve said before, Roy Jones missing a step is still faster than Anotonio Tarver. I’m sorry, but that’s the simple truth.
One thing people who haven’t boxed before need to consider is what it feels like getting caught flush by a guy who has power. Tarver hit him with one of the best counters I’ve ever seen. I strongly doubt many fighters would have been standing after that, it was that good. As far as Johnson goes, after watching that fight a few times, it almost looked like he got punched on the ear. Nothing messes up your equilibrium more than that, trust me.
I’m not trying to find excuses for Roy, just simply stating another point of view.
Personally, I’d love to see Roy win, but this is going to be a tough one. If he comes back rested and in shape, he definitely has a good chance of winning…don’t forget he has probably the best left hook of the past 10 years…
Reading that article made me wonder if Hopkins had previously given him a reach-around.
I don't care for Hopkins and the fight was very close. Biased writers tend to show their idiocracy when they write about someone they like, rather then stay neutral.
Now I'm not sure if this was your personal opinion, however I disagree with a few fighters and their "ratings":
Rocky Marciano
Power 9
Accuracy 6
Physical Attributes 6
Hand Speed 6
Footwork 6
Defense 6
Durability 9
Killer Instinct 8
Outside Work 5
Inside Work 7
Heart 9
Endurance 9
Ring Generalship 7
Smartness 7
Overall Score 100
Rock should be 10 durability. He's recognized as being one of the most durable fighters in the history of the sport, regardless of the weightclass.
His Killer Instinct should be higher. I'm not sure how many of his fights that you've seen, but he was a relentless puncher who went after someone moreso than any heavy I've seen after their opponent was hurt.
Inside Work...you must be joking, right?
Heart...no heavy has had more heart, and that includes Holyfield.
Muhammad Ali
Power 6

Ring Generalship 10

Accuracy...One of the most accurate (aside from Larry Holmes and Joe Louis) heavies.
Smartness...once again, you must be out of your mind. The most intelligent fighter I've ever seen.

Durability 8 of 10? Are we talking about the same Tyson?
Smartness...part of this is learning to adapt your fighting technique, which Tyson NEVER did.
Sanders has one hell of a left hand.
Brewster has good power in both hands.
All the Peter knockdowns were pushoffs, rabbit punches, or being off balance.
He has a better chin then people give him credit for.
Roy looked like the old Roy, with 50% of the speed and 25% of the punches.
If he would've just put some pressure on, or tried to finish off Tarver in the 10th (I think it was the 10th when he hurt him), Roy would've knocked him out. Tarver had nothing left in the tank, regardless of what anyone says. Look at his legs in the fight, from the 10th on, he was wobbly and had them close together...a sign of a fighter who's tired as hell.
It's funny you say he only had 50% of his speed because he still looked faster than any fighter I've seen with the exception of Mayweather Jr.
Exactly. Jones in his prime was the fastest fighter I've seen, and that includes Floyd.
1)Larry Cley-Bey...skill level is thru the roof, if he was more of a gym rat we would be talking all time here!
2)Malcolm Tann...I have a hard on for big guys with skills and yes Malcolm makes me very hard.
3)Jedi Nobles...there is always 1 guy in my top ten based upon physique, what can I say Im a tit man.
4)Henry Ackinwande, thank god the fighting Zulu is back, watch the fight with LL again...it was a knockdown!
5)Kirk Johnson, say what you want about Kirk but dont tell me his lisp doesnt inspire you!
6)T-rex Sanders, when motivated easily the most dangerous fighter in the divison just ask Paea Wolfgramm!
7)Derrick Jefferson, every top ten list needs an Arturo Gatti-like animal and the HW divsion has their own in iron chin DJ!
8)Brian Minto, no title shot after Mandelone war? WTF?
9) Vinny Mandelone, gets shot at redemption and quite possibly the cover of SI if he can reverse his fortunes in the rematch!
10) Rober Wiggins, journeyman bad ass who only needs a time and a place, seriously it is that simple!
That made me lol...Karma for you =)
