One more thing. I know there is going to be a lot of people arguing that he was unbeatable until he fired Kevin Rooney, there always are. To those people, I challenge you to answer this question: Why has this man with an IQ of 160 never decided to rehire Rooney at any point in his career, even long after his King associations were severed.
If Rooney was what truly held everything together, why has he never gone back to him? At any time all it would have taken was one phone call, because Rooney sure as hell wasn't too busy handling all of the other big name fighters he supposedly developed
After Mike fired Kevin, Kevin took Mike to court and sued him for money, and they got in a big arguement and haven't talked since. I'm not saying Mike would have won with Kevin setting in his corner. However, if Kevin was setting in his training sessions and training him the right way, like head movement, and throwing combo's then Mike would have won the Douglas fight. Look at some older Tyson fights, (biggs, holmes, spinks, berbick) then watch the Douglas fight. That was a totally different person out there from round one. There's no doubt that someone would have eventually took him into deep water and beat up on him, but Buster Douglas would not have been that person. Tyson trained by Rooney would have knocked out Douglas in round one
Rock was the most underrated boxer in history. If he would have lost the title twice and won it back like Ali would that make him better? I think its better to keep the title the whole way. Ali liked to run his mouth, but in the end Marciano would show him what pain is. If Weptner could knock Ali off his feet with a body shot, what do you think guys like Marciano and Tyson would do to him? I mean Larry Holmes beat Ali for crying out loud. Ali's a top 10 boxer no doubt, but overrated is an understatment.
Tyson did have the potential to be a very fast footed fighter. His Cus D'amato style doesnt allow that to be seen, he was always moving forward. The first fight he got backed up in was against James Douglas, and look what happened.
Tyson proved he did in one of his early fights. I have a clip of it and he actually gets up on his toes and dances for the entire round. He looks quicker than Holyfield or Holmes, but not quite as smooth as Ali.[/QUOT
I heard Tyson faught like that against Henry Tillman in amateur, maybe thats why he lost both fights to him
They were both great fighters, most say Ali was better because Tyson fell apart after leaving Kevin Rooney at an early age. Ali went to Cus D'amato many times throughout his career for advise, if not for Cus i don't think Ali would have beaten Foreman. It was documented that Cus told Ali his early style left him open to hooks, Ali got up and started dancing around the 60 year old Cus throwing jabs towards him, Cus D'amato caught Ali and busted his lip before Ali could move. Ali always respected Cus after that moment. Joe Frazier is the fighter who beat the best version of Ali, and he was a swarmer just like Tyson, only without the speed, head movement and angles of Tyson. I'm not saying Tyson would win, but i'd have it 50/50. People who say Ali would destroy Tyson need to look at some old films again. Tyson had tremendous speed, power, and upperbody strength. And yes Tyrell Biggs would have been an all time great just like Ali, but Tyson made him look like a fool with his 7 round destruction of Biggs. Tyrell came out in the first round dancing around and throwing the jab, but Tyson went to his body and broke him up making Biggs cry like a girl. The only person who i think could beat a swarmer like Tyson is a punchers like Foreman. A great boxer beats a great puncher. A great puncher beats a great swarmer, and a great swarmer beats a great boxer. Thats what history has shown us over and over again. 19-21 year old Tyson by 8th round KO over the Ali from the Liston fight.
I suggest that you leave the fight game. You are sounding a bit punchy already!
Show yourself your power in the ring with another 155 pounder! If I was 200 lbs or so and you bust my nose....I'd kill you! Sounds like you're sparring with a retard.
After i busted his nose he did come at me hard, i just have great head movement and more speed to escape. The other guys at our gym that are around my weight i have already beat up on and they say i take sparring to serious, but isn't that what your supposed to do
Dude, did you post this same exact question on Sherdog or is it just a coincidence? Anyway, as ET said, knocking out your training partner is counter productive.
No, i don't know what sherdog is? Is it another boxing site?
Thanks rockin.
I'm in a small town with little available, thats why i'm fighting such a big guy. I have a small frame but am built with decent muscle, this guy is kinda chunky but strong. I'll take your advise.
who the hell spars with a guy almost 100 pounds bigger then them anyway?..i dont bleieve u
Its says he's an idiot under his name, can't argue with that
I've always wanted to try to knock out a cow. I don't know why, but everytime i see one in a field i just want to run out and smash it with a left hook.
I want to KO this guy to show my trainer my power. I know i have the power to do it, i'm just having a hard time getting close enough to land a hard one.
When i was 4 years old Mike Tyson destroyed Michael Spinks in 91 seconds. I watched that fight a few years later and was hooked, i knew thats what i wanted to do to people.
At his best he was the greatest of our time. But that 1988 prime Mike Tyson is no longer around. I personally think that in his prime he would beat anyone in history, but he's finished now. All he can do is go out there and hope to land one big punch.
i dont believe dat u have to be genetic freak to have 20inch neck. my bro is naturally skinny guy byt now hes 170 pounds and 6ft/ his neck used to be 16 inches. now its 18 inches. and dats after like a month of neck workouts. so 20 inches weighing 220pounds+ isnt really hard
If your brothers neck grew 2 inches in one month he's either using steroids or you are exaggerating.
Yea, it seems like the guys with the huge muscular necks don't go down as much. Did anyone see Buster Douglas rollin Tysons head back over his 20" neck. Thats one knockout i'll never forget
He lost the first round against Tony Tubbs. He came out in the second and beat him to the ground with a left hook though. Thats the only round i really think he lost, the others were too close for me to take from him. Tyrell Biggs came out like Ali moving and jabbing, but Tyson landed more powerful punches.
People say Tyson should fight a few bums before Williams. Well, how much more of a bum can a man get. Danny Williams is pathetic, Tysons doctor said his knee was the worst he ever saw, he didn't know how he even stayed on it as long as he did
Alot of people think of a prime Tyson when they hear the name. The 88 version pops in their head, the most powerful heavyweight ever, but the 2005 version is just to old to beat todays top contenders. Its a shame we gotta get old, or Tyson would have been the World Champion forever
Boxing is not really a college sport. I mean a middle class person could not be a good boxer. You have to know struggle, and have that killer instint to be great at the sport. At least thats what Mike Tyson always said.
Nice post. I always wondered about him, after he got aids i hadn't heard anything else about him. I never knew he was in prison, its a shame how he ended up.
