He was the first Lt. Heavy to win the heavy crown. I agree. He's one of the greatest Light HW's of all time. He succeeded where Archie Moore and Bob Foster failed - win the HW title. He may not have much success as a HW, but if only for this achievement, he deserves our respect.

My overriding memory of the Spinks-Tyuson fight is Spinks looking scared shitless, especially when Tyson does him with 90n seconds on the clock. Lol :D

Why did Spinks retire after Tyson knocked his bitch ass out? Hmmmmmmmm maybe it was the huge friggin payday.

Michael Spinks is one of the greatest light heavyweight champions ever, in my opinion. While both his fights with Larry Holmes were close, I thought he squeaked out the decision in the first one and lost the second. Regardless, the judges gave him both and he was the linear heavyweight champion. With his herky-jerky style and defense, I thought he had a chance against Tyson, but it was the case, as with Bob Foster, of a great light heavyweight crossing paths with a good to great heavyweight (Tyson, Frazier, Ali, ...).

He was afraid from the opening bell and Tyson beat him into retirement.

He retired because Mike Tyson didn't. No way he was gonna fight him again, and why fight if your not going to become champion. You took the words right out of my mouth. The loss was embarrasing and there was no way he was going to beat Tyson in a rematch.

Spinks was never really a legit heavyweight regardless of what anyone says. That fight was made to make Tyson look good. Spinks did not have the style to beat a Mike Tyson and got crushed. It was built up as a big deal but most experts knew at the time of the fight that Spinks had little to no chance of beating Tyson, Spinks was not even in his prime anymore. Spinks is still regarded as one of the best light heavyweights of all time. It's a shame that most boxing fans, especially those that are younger, remember him only for the KO loss to Tyson.

He realized what a big pussy he was and bowed out. I mean, the guy didn't even give Tyson a challenge. Wasent their fight supposed to be like this huge deal?

im not tryin to bust your chops man, but for some reason i actually believe him this time, if he loses this fight he is done man No offense taken, glad we can do this in a civilized manner. I do believe Zab is more serious this time around due to him being MIA in the PR end when he is usually the light of a fight. But this could be another trick who knows.

i dont like zab's cockiness either, but i think he even realizes he has come to a crossroads where he either buckles down and fulfills his true potential or fades away in to mediocrity, i think he is finally focused for the first time, a focused judah could be scary i think Zab has said for the past 4 or 5 fights he is more focused and ready to quit playing games. Although he seems more serious this time around he has said that numerous times and you cant believe any of them.
