I agree with the general consensus. There seems to be some trepidation (sp) on Taylor's part. He knows he needs to face him or be branded a dodger for the rest of his career but he's being forced to do it before he feels ready. But he is a professional, and when the champ asks you to a match you have to take it. I agree also that he looked super uncomfortable on FnF. He doesn't seem to have the right mentality. And damn does he need it to go up against Hopkins.
I'm going to try to watch them both back to back withtin the next few days. Arce - Hussein benefited from the anticipation of the fight to come while Pac Morales was a pic em with a slight edge towards Pacman that people thought (and were right) would be awesome. I was excited by both but I was so anxious for the pacman morales fight I may not have given enough credit to arce and hussein for their awesome fight. My initial leaning is towards Pacman - Morales but I may change. I'll let you know.
I would change the Resto - Collins outcome. That was a damn shame. I would have the ref notice in the first round that Resto's padding was pulled out and have them both go to jail as they did.
Seems to me with so many people labeling Gatti the lowest class of fighter anyone could face (a bum) that Floyd cannot further his career by defeating him.
What say you?
I agree that there is not much to be gained for Floyd here. How much respect did DLH get for beating Gatti? I will be rooting for Gatti but I know his chances are very slim. This is a win win for Gatti. As long as he is boxing people will want to see him. If he loses he was outclassed by a boxer everyone thought was way better than him. IF he wins, he will be an even bigger name and more of a draw. And people will start to talk about him with more respect in terms of skill.
If Floyd wins, he beat a 'bum' (as many people call him). If he loses, he was exposed as overrated. Or maybe that he is like Roy and has a weak chin. Not much to gain from the fight for his career. The only thing it will do is get his name out to a few more people. And of course there is the money from the fight! :D
When Floyd defeats Gatti it will be an accomplishment, regardless of the fact that Gatti is a bum. He'll beat a guy naturally bigger than him, he'll capture his 3rd world title, and that fight will go down as one of his notable wins. I'm not saying it's going to be a big win in terms of it being a tough fight, (because it won't be a tough fight, Gatti is going to get dominated from bell to bell.) but it will be a big win, because he'll beat one of the most popular guys in this era, ouside of heavyweight.
I disagree that Gatti is a bum. But you make a good point that this would be a big win for him. Even if he runs the whole 12 and gets a UD which would not please the crowd or the viewers (most of them) it would still be fairly big. If Floyd stops him though it will be way better for him.
There are definitely sports that the media has a vested interest in only reporting when something goes wrong. Actually, that is true of the media in general. Steroids in baseball anyone? But the reason this became such a big story is that it was a girl in boxing. Especially after Million Dollar Baby (I won't give anything away for those who haven't seen it yet).
There was a story a while back that made big news too when a kid died running around a track in a plastic suit in 90 degree weather trying to cut weight for his high school wrestling team. That was messed up but it gives people a biased view of wrestling. Most people don't know anything about wrestling and know very little more about boxing, so when all that gets reported is the deaths people think that these sports should get banned. Like someone before mentioned this sport does a lot to help people straigten out their lives. It does a lot for kids on the edge. You will rarely hear about that, you will more likely hear about the Floyd's and the Mike Tyson's the guys who let the fame get to them and think they can do as they please. They rarely talk about the people like B Hops who reformed and became role models for people who follow the sport. Damn I wish I could have his dedication to the sport. It may be an exaggeration but I hear he trains 365 days a year.
Anyways, sorry for the rant. I just had several people e-mail me this trying to convince me to stop boxing and I just didn't reply because they do care for me and I can't get that pissed at them for it.
I wondered the same thing myself. I have a friend who has a contact with the HBO legal department and I had him ask them why HBO doesn't release the DVD versions of the fights. He told me that HBO does not own the rights to the distribution. Those rights are usually part of the contract between the two (if there are two) promoters. Why Don King doesn't sell them is beyond me. He could probably make a mint. DVD's are cheap to produce and there is a large profit margin. Plus he has tons of fights over the years that he must own the rights to. And we all know he has no aversion to making money.
My only thought is that sporting event DVD's don't do so well. If you think about it how many people go out and buy the World Series on DVD or the NBA finals or Wimbleton? I will grant you that boxing is a different animal though. It is built upon a rich legacy and has hardcore fans who are wanting to watch old fights more than fans of another sport want to watch their past games. Maybe because boxing has had some of the greatest matchups in the past and sometimes there are so few good fights in the present it would be nice to revisit an old Tyson fight or a Duran fight. I am all for legitimate high quality DVD's and I too would pay for them. Until then I will visit the boxing d'l forum and get what I can from b*xing t*rrents. If the quality is good enough I burn a few fights onto DVD and watch em in my living room.
By the way, I am fairly new to the boxing game and love the fact that people love the history and champions of the past as much as they do. I have been voraciously going back in time and finding fights to wacth that were amazing. I feel most other sports focus heavily on the current season. We ususally have to wait a while between big fights.
Hayefan, I used your avarar to mock how Dougie and Valero seem to have a very close working relationship. I hope you don't mind. I think Valero is a great boxer and that he is okay to box. If he isn't I really hope they don't let him. We don't need any more boxers who can't speak.

That's just disgusting..
Oh you love it! Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want Gatti to win. You need Gatti to win.
I really liked Vinny Pazienza. He was making fun of RJJr talking in the third person. "Vinny Pazienza thinks RJJr is a funny guy".
Hilary Swank must have been the girl you are think of. I didn't see that one though.
Come on you guys, there's no promotors here? Throw me a freakin bone!
I'm not a promoter but I'm sure Rockin' could direct you to the right person. You might want to PM him if no one who knows responds. Also, I remember a thread about promoting and getting into it a while back, it was mainly about self promoting and the pro's and con's. You might want to take a look at that. Also, if I remember correctly Spinkjinx might have said something about knowing a promoter. Hope this helps.
Yo...can any of you photoshop experts make a sig for me...One of Floyd destroying Gatti.
Not a photoshop expert but this is the best I could do quickly.

Hope you enjoy. ;)
probably for girls like the one you have in your avatar they do, to make poses for Playboy, but probably not in a regular prizefight, maybe in mudwrestling match or something at some strip bar.
Yes they do. There is a guy I've seen who wears pink gloves, pink shorts and pink headgear. Needless to say people call him Pinky :D
I saw that when it happened. It was sick. I was amazed. They both looked like real boxers. Then WHAM! Anne Wolfe steps up and makes me take note of her name.

EVERY TIME I TURN MY X-BOX ON! Damn I'm tired of this song! It even follows me into the boards.
Hi peeps osrry if i posted this in the wrong part but i am new, i was wondering what is the right way to punch?
Yup wrong section. See the Training and Nutrition section. But for a striaght, you keep your arm in a straight line from your guard, aim past your target, make sure your elbow doesn't pop out and throw your whole body into it by twisting your shoulders and hips. I'm still working on it but that is what I try to focus on. I'm sure there is more. And the hook is just impossible ;) so don't even try. JK. I am hjaving trouble throwing any kind of hook worth a damn. But I have been mainly working on my jab. That is the best place to start. Have at the Training and Nuttition section. People there are cool and give good advice.
very cool vid with kostya tszyu (very cool car)

got to that page and click on the vid
Very nice. Thanks.
They are not sold out. I just tried and they still have $1,000.00 tickets! I dropped the ball on this one! I wanted to go. Do people think this will be a good fight worth a $1,000 ticket? Not that I could get one!
Going back in time is there any fight you would pay $1,000.00 for the best seats? Thrilla in Manilla? Rumble in the Jungle? Any others?
The fight better go past the 10th round, I want my moneys worth. Thats why I hate ordering ppvs for one fight only because if it ends quick I am out all that money...Which is why I enjoy Don Kings cards they are stacked and sure to go the distance.....
I definitely think this will go at least to the 6th or 7th. But if Gatti hasn't slowed Floyd down by then it will be disaster. I am rooting for Gatti and will lay down points on him (assuming he is an underdog) but I know Floyd has a better chance of pulling out the win.
As for Vivian, I've never heard so much about a fighter I have never seen. If he is of the style everyone here says he needs to match up with walk foward, power punchers. Much like JMM, who is dull in most fights, was exciting versus Pacman. He made a huge mistake in not taking the rematch though. The people in his position have made the choice to not be the draw by their style and they should realize that they won't get paid as much to be a dangerous opponent when they are not the one who has the built in audience.
Oh, and I am pissed that I didn't get tickets! By the time I got to them there were only the $1,000.00 tickets left. And I like Gatti but not that much! I would only pay $1,000.00 if I could go back in time and not know the outcome or happenings of Gatti - Ward I. I would also shell out that much under the same assumptions for Ali Frazier I or III, Marciano Walcott, Barrera Morales I and a few others. If I ever make tons of money the list will rapidly expand. :D
It's just that there is so much to put together that your mind and body are thinking about too much all at once. Once you become more comfortable with several aspects of sparring, moving while jabbing, moving while avoiding your opponents punches, seeing his punches coming, seeing where he is open, etc. it will all start to flow where you don't have to think quite so much and you will be going on instinct and your training will show through more. I had the same thing happen my first time. I still have trouble seeing the punches coming with some people. Just keep at it and make sure you keep the sparring light at this stage. There is little to be gained from getting your head bashed in and having headaches (or bruises) to try and learn to spar.
I just read the interview on boxingtalk.net. Apparently Don King promised him more money that any heavyweight ever received for a heavyweight fight. When he heard $1.5 million it was obvious to him that this is not the most a heavyweight contender ever got for a title shot. What a chump. This is the worst excuse I have ever heard. What did Williams get for his fight against Klichko, $300k ?
Why would he say that to him in the first place? Why pay Rahman more than ANY heavyweight has ever received for a heavyweight fight for this heavyweight fight? I don't see it being THAT good of a fight. It could be but it is not a guarantee in my mind. The best heavyweight fight that is possible is Lewis returning and fighting Klitschko. I even think a fight between Klitschko and Byrd would be a bigger fight. The Don, if he did actually say this was just trying to butter him up and he should know that. $1.5 million sounds way fair for a title fight. HE should take the fight even if they offered him $300,000.00. It would re-make his carreer if he could beat Klitschko and give him huge money down the line. What is it with fighters being so short sighted! First JMM doesn't take the rematch with Pac Man, then Mayweather turns down a fight that will garner him a wider audience as he (most likely, and I'm a Gatti fan) beats Gatti fairly easily and now Rahman doesn't want to take his title fight for $1.5 million? Everyone should follow Zab's example. I didn't like him much before but he earned a ton of respect from me for taking crap money AND fighting in Corey's backyard.
DAMN these people and their short sighted, money grubbing ways. Just make the fights and put on good shows and the money will come. This is one of the reasons boxing is such a niche sport. All this wrangling makes it petty. In baseball, basketball, all major team sports that have leagues and such, they take care of their contracts and then go to work. (except for NHL ;) ) I know boxing is not a game but it should be treated with a level of professionalism and long term vision. I know the career of a boxer can be ended in one night but if you think that it will. It will. You have to believe that this is just one fight on the way to bigger things.
Sorry for the rant. I just really get pissed at all the fights that could get made and don't. And the fact that this sport is so correctly maligned for being corrupt, money hungry, and incompetently run.
I think the main thing is that Oscar would have to come in focused and not on the pre-fight Hatton diet. I give them both a chance. DLH is definitely the faster of foot and hand of the two. Power is very close. Tactically they both kick ass. But DLH has had more wins over tougher competition. I think this is a pick-em but I give the edge to Zoo because I think DLH has lost the mental focus. He is too absorbed with all his other duties (He needs to wrap up 'The Next, Next Great Champ' and finally crown the six round WBA champion among other things).
I agree. But I actually think he is going in the right direction. In the last fight I saw of his, he was way more cut and I think he was bigger. Don't get me wrong he is still really big and needs to get some speed and defense. But that fight was entertaining because he is strong and a pressure fighter but doesn't have the best defense.
Hatton is gonna get hurt so badly all if his fans will have to donate organs to replace the damaged ones. Does he really think that fighting Tszyu on the inside is a smaert idea. Than he is more of a dumb fucker than I thought.Expect a shattering KO a la
Mitchell or Hurtado via Tszyu. :boxing:
I think Tsyzu is gonna take this. But to be able to last with him or have a shot to win he has to try to fight on the inside. Tsyzu is too dangerous at full arms length. Everyone agrees Tsyzu's most powerful weapon is his straight right. If Hatton keeps the fight on the inside he will smother his straight right. I think Tsyzu is crafty though and won't allow Hatton to fight this way. He'll pop the jab and keep him from trying to stay on the inside with his left hook. Then he will drop the bomb. I think this is going to be an awesome fight.
What is the relationship, if any, between the size of the fighter, in terms of height and/or arm length, and how effective they will probably be on the inside?
are there any heavyweights over 6'4" who are exceptional inside fighters?
and if anyone has time, what is the ideal size for a heavyweight? i happen to think that right now riddick bowe size is the best - 6'4" with long arms, good versatile medium size.
Like most people are saying the smaller guys do better on the inside. It is really out of necesity and the larger guys will have trouble working on the inside because of the dimensions of their arms and the height of a shorter opponent. And because it just makes sense to train on keeping the shorter guys away with longer punches. If the opponent is relatively the same size (ala Lewis - Klitschko) then uppercuts are going to be effective but hooks will still have trouble landing.
Sorry don't know.
The ideal size for a heavyweight seems to be somewhere around 7'4" and 280 lbs. At least that's the way the weight class is going. If you look back at old school heavyweights they were around 6' and around 190 and up. Now it seems like the lightest you can be is 220. I think the ideal is to be fast and tall and not necesarily as heavy. 6'4 does sound good and lean and strong at around 220.
Well that is my 'expert' ;) opinion.
