Some of you guys complain way too much about HBO commentators. It would be naive to assume that some commentators are not rooting for a certain fighter, but a great deal of people act as if the commentators make it blatantly obvious who they might be rooting for, which is simply...untrue.
All throughout the Pac fight, some people only seem to notice the comments that confirm their own biased beliefs. In the Pac fight, all 3 commentators gave props to BOTH fighters. Can a commentator not have his own opinion of how the fight looks without being accused of being a blatantly biased fool?
Basically, a large number of you would benefit by being more open-minded and refraining from reading between the lines so much. I don't like Merchant either (I think he is very impatient with fighters in interviews, when it's the fighter's turn to say their part) but do not be so short-sighted as to not be able to get beyond that.
put about 5 internet Boxing fans on the air and each of them will have their own opinions and those watching/listening would be talking about how much they suck etc because they are biased...
well with the commentators...they are watching as fans and while try to be unbiased, they are human and have their favorites to root for as well...they should get credit for going on the air and just doing that...
people bashed Max Kellerman because of his opinions...but as an opinionated fan...he is no different than us...only his medium (television) is just more open and "official" to some that he will take a lot of slack for his opinions...
Good post.
It would be impossible I guess that you only see evidence that supports your own theories, huh? I don't think so. For any fight you think they showed blatant bias, I'll show you quotes that proves you wrong, period.
Like I said...HBO's guys take too much heat and it's ridiculous. Be more open-minded. They are paid to do their job, and they do it well, but do not sit there and tell me that they blatantly root for one guy, because they do not. You may be able to tell from time to time that they might like a certain guy, but that does not make it blatant or unprofessional.
Next.
Okay, you do that...for every single time they kissed the ass of Vargas, do quote some of the praise they gave to Joval..since youre so hell bent on proving me wrong! Good luck with that, by the way, cause youre gonna need it.
not inciting a riot any further....
I feel that a bucket of warm water + a spatula was needed to remove Jim Lampley and Roy Jones Jr. from Morales' balls in the last fight. They were acting so biased, I had to lower the sound. And I am a "Morales Fan".

lol
And they can sway people into thinking that their guy is winning sometimes when he clearly isnt. They are supposed to be professionals, therefore not blatantly biased

True, they watch as fans, but are paid to be pros...it's really not that hard you see. If I can score a fight fairly when my fav.'s are fighting, then they can root without going overboard I think. Last night, there was one time when they could have "saved face" just a little...Steward said something after the fight was over about Joval putting up a much better fight than expected, etc. Just in general giving the guy his props..neither Lampley or Merchant said a WORD! Total silence, which is very rare.

Wait wait, yours doesnt do that...its somebody elses! ;)
LOL yeah especially right now since im working with a 17" monitor. I cant have the site and something else opened at once if its stretched so far cus i have to scroll left and right to read posts . :D
BTW I also agree that Lampley and Merchant have been blatantly obvious who they been rooting for in the past. Emmanuel Stewart and Roy Jones have gotten on my good side by correcting them a few times when they been on the cheering wagon. Thank god for them.
Scrolling would drive me nuts!
Hey, hang onto your seats boys, you'll only hear this once! Steward always had my respect, but, God forbid, Roy even earned it last Sat. with the "you've never boxed Larry" comment! Wow, miracles CAN happen! :D Seriously though, it is good to have somebody in there with actual boxing knowledge to correct all the worshipping that goes on around there!

I couldnt disagree more! Yes, they should root for house fighters, but to the point that the casual fan would actually forget the name of the other guy in the ring?? And they can sway people into thinking that their guy is winning sometimes when he clearly isnt. They are supposed to be professionals, therefore not blatantly biased..rooting is one thing, profound ass kissing is something else! Last night is a perfect example..you'd think it was the second coming of Christ, but no, lo and behold, it was only Vargas! What a joke..how did either Lampley or Merchant talk with their tounges so far up his rear anyway? Never mind the fact that Vargas was supposed to have Joval out of there in just a few rounds, and instead won by the slim margin of two or three pt's....according to Lampley and Merchant, he blew Joval away!! Amazing, and I'm very glad they had Steward there, who is unbiased enough to give an accurate accout of whats REALLY going on in the ring!
but a great deal of people act as if the commentators make it blatantly obvious who they might be rooting for, which is simply...untrue.
This is simply not true.
You guys may hate Merchant though I think he's good for the commentator's because he's not afraid to speak his mind and sometimes he's the only one that can get Roy Jones to shut up. As for cutting people off in the interviews. They are running on time, it's that simple. He's trying to rush through it so they don't go over the telecast time. I'm sure it's the people whispering in his ear piece, MOVE ON, NEXT QUESTION. I highly doubt he himself likes to cut people off, it's just how TV works.
I see your point there.
