The fact that Floyd was able to get an IV and an amount and 750ml which is not allowed, and Pac wasnt allowed a legal pain killer due to a technicality on a form they golled out, shows Floyd did have an unfair advantage heading into the fight.
The only way to properly hydrate and bulk up quick without roids is an IV. Had he been really struggling to make weight and everything was on the up and up and he wasnt allowed to have the IV, then he would have been effected by being dehydrated on fight night. His speed, reflexes, stamina would have been off, maybe only a tiny bit off but it would have effected him regardless. Both USADA and the NSAC screwed up by allowing and not allowing something.
All it does is create excuses and questions about would it have been different under different ciecumstances. What people like Malignaggi dont seem to be mentioning is him taking 750ml which is a staggering amount and therefore obviously gave floyd an unnatural advantage heading in. Would the outcome have been different? Probably not, but it may have been and its a damn shame he gets to manipulate the system with his power and get an advantage other fighters arent allowed to get. Demanding people wear his gloves, I just dont get how his fans defend these actions, if this were someone else they werent a fan of doing these things theyd be calling that fighter a ***** among any other things. Floyd has way too much power that allows him advantages the other great fighters in history werent given
Big Pacquiao fan but Floyd clearly won the fight. Watching it with alcohol in the system clearly makes for a different viewing experience. I remember believing it was boring and an easy fight for Floyd. Watching it sober the next day I thought the first 7 rounds was pretty good, pretty exciting. I actually shockingly scored it 7 to 5 Floyd (I had it 6-6 but I know Floyd won so I gave him a close round that I had scored for pacquiao just because I know he didn't win). Closer fight than I originally had it but I think that's because us pac fans were so disappointed in his performance. It was a chess match with little action albeit for a few moments in the fight. Mayweathers defence was great but his offence wasn't very good, many defence was better in this fight but his offence wasn't good, very strange fight. Dissapointing.
Pacquiao didn't look great. Was it the shoulder or was it Mayweather making him look bad. I would say a little bit of both. Maybe he catches him a few more times and we have a few more 4th round moments in the fight with a healthy shoulder. So yes I would like to see a rematch. I think it warrants it more than a maidana rematch. Especially if they did it for a 60 dollar pay per view and had it in a big stadium like ATNT in Dallas.
On another note when Pac hurt him in the 4th and unloaded the combos he then stopped and backed off and let Floyd come off the ropes. That might have been a moment of inferior fighting brains. The whole plan was to get him on the ropes unload some combos and get out before Floyd counters. But Floyd wasn't countering he wasn't shoulder rolling, he was covering up because of a shot that rocked him. He should have kept going, maybe it was the shoulder pain that he felt, but I think it was Pacquiao trying to follow the gameplan, and that was a poor brain moment in the fight. There is a big difference in getting Floyd on the ropes and he trying to counter you then Floyd being hurt into the ropes and covering up, that was not a smart boxing moment by pacquiao.
If anyone is wondering, Twin Peaks bar on the Strip will be playing the Pacquiao Mayweather fight. Me and my husband showed up at around 3 in the afternoon for mayweather canelo and it there was a huge lineup, hundreds of people waiting in line for the bar to start letting people in. I thought oh my god we are going to miss the fight! So I went up to the doorman and offered him 100 bucks cash to let us in. He told me too go stand in the corner. We did and when they opened the doors he let us in as the first people into the bar. So pumped. Bets thing is, he was supposed to come by our table to get the cash........he never did! Worked out perfectly........except for the fact that Canelo stupidly tried to outbox mayweather. But it was a great atmosphere and the waitresses were hot! I am a girl but still I would prefer hot waitresses to ugly ones. Great night!
This makes it I believe the third fight where mayweather has fought and the commentators have failed to mention the name Pacquiao. They talked about who Floyd could be fighting next and not even one mention of the name Pacquiao. At least HBO will mention Floyds name and discuss the idea of them fighting. Mayweather has to have some kind of a deal where showtime is not allowed to ask any questions regarding pacquiao in the post fight interviews. I thought that was pretty disgusting of them to not even mention the fight the entire world still wants to see. They act like Pacquiao doesn't exists in the ww ranks.
Is Canelo known to be an incredibly hard worker? Just curious because it bothers me he can't speak English. You look at other athletes around the world who train like beasts and do whatever it takes to become the best and biggest star. A Manny Pacquiao, a guy like Cristiano Ronaldo who played in 3 leagues in 3 countries, Portugal, England and Spain and he learnt to speak English and Spanish fairly quickly after signing in those leagues. It bothers me that Canelo still doesn't speak English, that just screams out to me.......Lazy. He would be such a bigger star if he spoke fluent English, what's the excuse for not being able to speak it in interviews ? If you want to be the best biggest star you need to be English speaking in America.
Yes it was good for boxing. It brought exposure to the sport and excitement.
There will be a rematch next Spring, we all know it. This rivalry couldn't be settled with one fight. So much money was made and so much money will be made in rematch.
Pacquiao's injury angle, Mayweather's trash talk, the new stadium on the strip, the much longer promotion time to actually promote the event will hype it up almost as big as this first fight. It will do well over 3 million buys and probably around 4. A year is a long time to forget about how much casual or non usual boxing fans didn't find the first fight great. Everybody will all still have hope the Manny can catch Floyd. And we learned in the first fight he can, can he actually catch him and finish him off, possibly.
Neither guy was impressive, they both were not very good offensively, pac had the few bigger moments and Floyd had many more smaller moments. They both looked overtrained, they both did the least amount to try and win. I think the rematch will be different. But Floyd fans should be clammering for a rematch as much as Pacquiao fans. Both guys disappointed their fan bases, pac was lacklustre offensively and Floyd fought scared and as safe as anyone has ever seen. Wasn't he supposed to be aggressive and attack Pacquiao and take him out, looked like neither guy was looking to take any risks.
Showtime made a huge power move signing Mayweather and then having Cotto Canelo Hopkins Garcia Broner and much more all switching to Showtime. It was a huge power move and really only left HBO with Pacquiao and GGG as their big fighters. It appeared Showtime was about to become the king of boxing for the next decade.....oh how the times have changed.
HBO has now brought back Canelo on a long term deal along with previously getting Cotto back to HBO as well as Hopkins. They now have 3 of the top 4 PPV attractions in Pacquiao Canelo and Cotto. Showtime is left with Mayweather as top PPV attraction, Albeit the number 1 ppv star.
The power move by Showtime lasted less than 2 years and I for one am happy just because I prefer HBO commentators to Showtime who really seem to have a mass bias towards Mayweather whereas HBO seems to call it like it is unbiased towards fighters on their cards.
The Mayweather Showtime Richard Shaefer Al haymen super power play for boxing looked like it was going to be unstoppable. Delahoya has put a huge wrench in that plan and has now brought over several stars back to HBO.
And if Pacquiao Mayweather actually happens, it looks like it will happen with both HBO and Showtime involved so that's another huge win for HBO as they would then again for the night have the biggest ppv star and the biggest fight in history back on their network.
The stars have fallen in HBO's favor.
I wanted ggg to win, i honestly thought canelo won, but a draw, canelo win, or ggg win, all would have been acceptable. Im surprised about the outrage as i really wanted ggg to win, not sure if the beers impacted my assessment but I would have given slight edge to canelo. Either way nothing was resolved tonight. Onto the rubber match, and hell if GGG wins in a similar manner as tonights fight........then onto number 4.
Interesting, Barbosa deleted this tweet this monring even after responding to people's comments about it. So what I can decipher from this is that he had to have been told to take it down, why? Pretty obvious I think, Mayweather's team probably didn't want any info leaked, they want to be the ones to announce it, why else would he take it down? He must have been told to take it down. So I think personally the fight is on.
It's silly when people say they don't want to see it, who else should these guys who have proven everything fight? Whether you think Pacs injury effected the outcome is up to you, but it is an interesting angle. I personally think there was some effect, just due to the lack of punches pacquiao was throwing. Mayweather clearly won the fight but he wasn't landing hard shots to keep Pac off of him, so it was weird to not see Pac throwing, especially after watching those silly slow motion moments of the match where a lot of bigger punches we thought landed for Floyd didn't actually land, yet Pacquiao was still so inactive.
So I am excited, I think at their age and with Floyds movement slowed down we could actually potentially have an action packed fight.
During the post fight when mayweather was asked if he would be interested in a fight with pacquiao, his whole team was pretty much laughing at acting like it was a joke of a question. Please Floyd fans explain to me seriously and not with joke comments from both pacquiao and floyd fans, explain to me how they say Canelo was going to be such easy work and a sparring session yet they fight him. But they say pacquiao is now shot and a joke and that fight makes no sense now. That fight would generate the biggest ppv in history and most money floyd could ever make for what they are calling a glorified training session. So if the fight would be so easy, and make floyd the most money then why not fight him? You can fight guys like geurrero who we knew had no chance so ur already fighting guys we know you will beat, why not face Pacquiao then. To me it seems like they are contradicting themselves by acting like the fight is such a joke and not worth it yet its stll and always will be in high demand and would be bigger than Canelo Vs Floyd. If im an advisor to floyd im begging our team to make this fight right away as they all believe he will destory pacquiao........or do they still think his style might give floyd some issues. Because saying its a glorified training session does'nt make sense as they say that about all of his opponents. This is a serious unbiased question, no lame remarks or jokes from either side.
Why cant people say something about floyd ducking dangerous opponents without it turning into a ***** fest about Pacquiao.
They BOTH have fought each others leftovers, the difference is Pacquiao was fighting guys way bigger so it was a more dangerous fight for him. Floyd could have picked mosley years ago when he fought Baldamir yet he chooses "the champ" well yea he was the champ but he was not a threat to Floyd. Floyd fights Zab who loses to the guy Floyd defeats easily in Baldy. Ortiz a power puncher so he had a punchers chance but we alll knew floyd would pick him apart and we all knew floyd would outbox cotto to a 12 round decision.
At least Pacquiao recently fought Bradley, who many people predicted would upset Pac and then Marquez who we all knew was a threat to Pacquiao. SO pacquiao is fighting guys who are a threat to him late in his career yet Floyd is picking easier opponents. I think Geurros good and it will be a decent fight so thats a start. Now if he fights Canelo next well then all of us can eat crow because Canelo regardless of what Floyd fans think is a threat to him. Hes biggger then floyd and more powerful so its a big risk for FLoyd to take that fight, probably the biggest risk hes ever taken since becoming a star. I would definately give him respect if we see Canelo Mayweather in September.......if instead we see Mayweather vs Alexander........well then its clear hes cherry picking. Same as if Pac chooses to fight lets say even bradley next, thats a safe fight because we all saw how easy he was for Pacquiao last year...thats a fight I dont' want to see.
This could end of being a brilliant move by both Golden Boy and Top Rank. Lets say Mayweather wins in May and Canelo wins and we have two huge ppvs with Marquez Pacquiao and Mayweather Canelo on the same night. If both Mayweather and Pacquiao won, then all of a sudden a Pacquiao Mayweather Fight is back with a bang. That is obviously the best case scenario and either Pacquiao could lose again or Mayweather could lose.
I would love to see this head to head ppv happen, I will or sure order both fights. Personally I think as long as Mayweather remains undefeated people will still want to see if Pacquiao would be able to catch Mayweather. Since Mayweather fights of the ropes more often now it would be interesting to see Pacquiao attacking him on the ropes.
I doubt this will happen as whoever books the september fight officially and the match and opponents announed then the other promotion will likely move their date.
Id still like to see pac mayweather. To me it was a perfect shot, Marquez caught Pacquiao with a 1 in a million punch. It couldn't have happaned to a better guy than marquez, he deserved it hes a great fighter. I don't think he would be able to land a shot like that on Pacquiao if they fought again though. Pacquiao seemed to be controlling the fight and if he was a smarter fighter he would have laid back and did what he had done in the first few rounds and just landed little shots and pick him apart over the next few rounds and get a stoppage.
They are both great fighters and Pacquiao looked good, he still has all the tools, his skill is still their so no need to retire, he got caught by a beautiful punch, all credit to marquez and nacho.
If they fight again (which I would rather see over a rios fight as I think Rios would get picked apart by pacquiaos skills) I think pacquiao would be safer and would probably win, now if marquez landed another shot like that again, well then its time to retire.
Rios, Bradley, or Marquez next for Pacquiao............I don't know how people wouldn't want to see Pac Marquez 5 over those other options.
All that matters is we have all been robbed of arguably the biggest fight in boxing history. And that is because of the greed and egos of BOTH sides involved.
Both Pacquiao and Arum, and Mayweather and Golden Boy are the reaons this fight has never been made. It is an absolute joke this fight could not be made, it was inevitable that Pacquiao or Mayweather would get caught and would eventually lose ending this megafight. The fact is this is one of the most disgusting eras in boxing history, 2 of the greatest boxers ever in the same division in their primes for several years and they never fought each other. In a fight that would have garnered potetially hundreds of millions of dollars, everyone is to blame. The fact Mayweather asked for random drug testing at the lest second is a joke, the fact Pacquiao wouldn't agree to it is also a joke. The fact Mayweather wanted a bigger purse earlier this year and the fact that Arum never wanted to negotiate with Floyd is a joke.
This whole thing is typical of sports these days. It is not about what is best for fans, its whats best for these millionaire greedy egos involved. I am canadian and the same thing just happened with losing half the Nhl season due to a lockout. Nobody cares about the fans, they only care about the almighty dollar.
What a ****ing joke this sport has become to have wasted the chance to host the biggest fight in history which should have been made several times these past several years. Their are no excuses, both Pacquiao, Mayweather, and their teams and promoters are to blame. What a slap in the face to the fans who line their pockets with Millions and millions every year.
Thanks for the info guys. The mgm room i saw some footage of closed circuit on youtube but the Mandalay bay looked like their closed circuit was in their actualy arena which looked pretty cool. Looked more impressive than the MGM one. How come all the local lounges and pubs within the casinos don't play the fights?
Anyone else fed up with jim gray? Broner can interupt and comb his hair and be a disrespectful ass to paulie after paulie was respectful to him post figh yet him gray kisses broners ass and asks no tough questions yet paulie whines about the fight being fixed and jim grau snaps back at him. That made no sense to me. Idont agree it was fixed but paulies on ur broadcast team and u are defensibe to him but broners antics are a ok......because it makes showtime money.....
I'm a Mexican American and I wouldn't find it disrespectful if Mayweather vs Paquiao were to happen on Cinco De Mayo weekend.
A lot of the Mexican, and Mexican American people that I know still hope that the fight can still happen, so they can place in their bets.
If I can pick which fight I rather watch it's gotta be Pac vs Mayweather over Canelo vs Cotto.
Arum should try to convince the TMT team to fight on July 4th which lands on a Saturday next year.
That would be a win, win situation for us fans.
Getting Canelo vs Cotto on May and getting Pac vs Mayweather in July, but Arum is talking out of his a## about disrespecting the Mexican people.
Great point. 4th of July would be an amazing night for this fight. I never even thought about that. Floyd is American, and that is the biggest American Holiday of the year. hell that's even a big weekend here in Vancouver Canada. That makes a hell of a lot more sense than fighting on the Mexican holiday. I still think Arum caves as Floyd won't come off that may date.
Come on people, anyone who knows anything about business knows what Bob Arum is doing. He is not trying to prevent the Pacquiao Mayweather fight. He is trying to make the most money he can. Having canelo cotto fight on The Mexican holiday in May would raise the ppv buys vs any other date, a fight in which Arum is co promoting, meaning more money or Arum if that fight happens on that date. Pac vs May can happen on any date and it will get as many buys as if it were on may 2nd. Hes trying to make the most money he can because he is a business man, albeit a greedy one. Do it in June and you may even get more pay per view buys because of an extra month of promotion and buildup.
If Mayweather will not negotiate any other date and will walk away from the pacquiao fight and fight someone else on May 2nd, you can bet your bottom dollar Arum will agree to that date. That would take buys away from Canelo Cotto, would still beat Floyds PPV vs Khan but would lose a few hundred thousand buys probably to Floyds fight.
As a business owner I understand completely with Arums reasoning. But we all know Floyd wont budge so they will have to fight Mayweather May 2nd and Move Canelo Cotto to a different date.
What are the closed circuits like at the hotels? Has anyone ever been. We werent able to get tickets but I will be in vegas and booked a flight and hotel at bellagio for the weekend and I want to know if the closed circuit is worth it or not. Where else can u even watch the fight In vegas.
I wouldn't be surprised if Floyds legs are shot and he has to fight Pac the same way he fought mcgregor which would be crazy to see..........or he looks great and he just did that to toy with McGregor and make it look more competitive. 1 fight in 3 years for floyd, at 41 years old........you literally dont know how he is going to look.
