with all due respect, my man, that decision was made regardless of what I may have thought about it...it was already put in motion before the Hopkins fight...Im not involved on the business end of things when it comes to the fighters, I stay out of it. They hire me to do a job and I do it...the people with the money control what happens in this business, my friend...
Key words in bold and underlined..
So every time I read around here I see nothing but fanboys talking sh*t about Pacquiao "draining" his opponents by a couple of lbs, always trying to discredit the guy. But then I turn around and see the same people put Ward #1 P4P over Floyd and Martinez. How does that work? Ward just drained his opponent by 7 freaking lbs. If he wanted to earn that #1 spot he should've challenged himself and gone up to 175. I mean, Floyd just did it. He went to Cotto's weight and beat him. And what has Ward done that Martinez hasn't? He's been KO'ing all his opponents in the process too. He probably would've KO'ed Chavez too if his damn hand hadnt broken and Chavez wasn't so damn huge.
I can't believe Im in here defending Floyd :lol1:. And just for the record I could care less where you have Pacquiao on your P4P list. But dont come in here saying Ward deserves to be above Floyd AND Martinez. To top it all off, he fights Dawson at 168 and 2 months later he's talking about going to 175. Wtf is that?
PS Oh then we have a moron around here talking about how Martinez was on his bike all night vs Chavez yet he is just fine with Ward's lame ass clinching and headbutting. I think we all know who Im talking about. Just wanted to give him a shoutout.
That's boxing/sports in general homie.. some can't seem to put their bias views aside.
Yeah but Oscar was far far far removed from being a top fighter. Dawson was at least a top fighter and in his prime.
True. IMO Ward would probably beat Chad anyway.. but Dawson was def. not at his best that night.
I'm just saying guys like BushBaby say Cotto was drained at 145, than turn around and excuse Ward for bringing Dawson down to 168.
Yup.. Agreed
I just don't see how Cotto was drained at 145 but Dawson wasn't at 168. Dawson was probably effected more at 168 than Cotto was at 145.
What I don't get with Ward is that if he may come up to 175 next year, why not just go and fight Dawson at 175??? It would have meant a lot more.
The same can be said for Manny when he fought Cotto. He fought Clottey at the full 147 limit in his very next fight, why not just do the same with Cotto???
Either way, it's a double standard to say one was drained and a crappy fight, while the other one was okay. And both wins by Manny and Ward were good wins, Ward's just would have meant more had he gine up in weight.
On point.. but the comparison should be with Pac/DLH and Ward/Dawson.
Pac went from LW to WW.. ODLH hadn't fought at WW for years.
Ward been fighting at SMW.. and pulled Dawson down to SMW for the first time in like 7 years I believe.
Also, people went from saying Pacquiao would get sent to the 3rd row after the first jab from Oscar (mismatch).. while many saw Ward/Dawson being competitive
Great thoughts as usual Lorily. To be honest.. I have no idea why Pacquiao was not following one of the most basic things any boxer should know. He was walking right into Marquez shots.. :lol1: Pacquiao made it much harder on himself, but I can't take any credit away from the way Marquez fought. Maybe Manny just isn't that intelligent of a fighter.. but to not be able to follow such simple/basic instructions? At the end of the day though, both these guys will always have close fights.. Their styles just seem to be perfect for each other for an even match up.
Such irony that we're hearing this NOW from Floyd. Meanwhile, whenever he was asked prior about Pacquiao he'd get pissed or decline to answer any questions, even before his fight with Ortiz.
Leonard vs Hagler (Mugabi) all over again.
YUP! Funny how when things were backwards.. people thought differently. :lol1:
Indeed. Manny/Top Rank try to make the fight using intermediaries such as judges and the head of HBO, Floyd and his stans say 'why not talk to Floyd directly?'. Manny sends his rep to FLOYD'S GYM to talk to him face to face, Ellerbe says he showed up just to take pictures. Wow.
I guess the plan is to get Floyd to take a pic with Koncz, and get his autograph. That way they can work on forging his signature onto a fight contract and then when Floyd inevitably denies it, show the pic as proof the meeting went down.
Ingenious really :drive:
:lol1: good stuff right there.
Agreed TS... People expected Pac to smoke JMM out in 1-3 rounds IMO, which led to them being irrational when judging the fight. Pac and JMM will always have a close fight with one another. JMM is a great fighter.. some here act surprised.
I really don't see the fuss.
I had Manny 115-113 and it's no shame in having a close fight with another HOF fighter. I admit I underestimated JMM and I just realize these guys are just made for each and will always produce close, contorversal bouts like this.
All of the truly great fighters have opponents like that whether it's Ali with Norton/Frazier, Pep with Sandler, or modern day versions with Morales and Barerra producing close fights due to their styles.
Its a part of the game that most chose not to accept.
Cosign mannn... JMM was being underestimated .. dude is an ATG IMO. We saw a great fight on Saturday. I was there live and even though as a Pacquiao fan.. he didn't knock JMM out.. it was a great fight. Both were just overly cautious this time around and were maybe showing too much respect for each other at times.
great post i agree i been on here defending pacquiao since the marquez fight. it was hard to score alot of close rounds but i had pacquiao winning 116-112 marquez won rounds 2,5,7,8 imo. marquez deserves credit no one gave him a chance and stuck to his gameplan and made the fight close but imo he didnt throw enough. pacquiao obviously didnt dominate marquez like his past opponents so now all the bandwagon pacquiao fans are leaving which is cool its your choice but im still a fan and f.uck the haters fu.ck the cry babies and i dont give a f.uck what you say
Yup.. some pac fans may be waiting for the shit storm that hit this board after the Pac/JMM fight.
Not saying I believe Arum with the Morales thing, seems pretty far fetched (despite Floyd-JMM) but the 2 bolded both confirmed that Floyd's people contacted them about setting up fights. So it wasn't just rumors from out of the blue.
Yup.. was confirmed. Probably backed out due to the backlash on the forums of BS alone. :lol1:
Officially as in, the fight is confirmed to happen in 2012. I don't deny the fact that Morales team said GBP and Mayweather contacted them about the possibility of a Mayweather fight. Getting offered about the possibility of a fight isn't the same as officially guaranteed of getting it. So hold your horses. There are lots of desperate groupies on here.
As crazy as that sounds.. it's what's happening.. :You_Rock_
And you better believe there will be alot of backlash from me if they fight Morales.
I wouldn't spend 1 dime on that fight.
But to be honest I just don't think Mayweather vs Morales will ever happen
Floyd wouldn't hurt his legacy and fan base with that crap fight
I don't think it's happening either..
I just don't know why he was negotiating with certain fighters ie (Spaddy/Morales/Hatton/Mora)
Either way.. I doubt that **** happens.
Good job Floyd.. do the right thing man. Trying to ruin another persons legacy based on some Bullshit is not a good look. I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot.. May wouldn't take it lightly.
Honestly if the fight happens on May 5th No more trash talk should happen on either side regarding who is ducking who.
My only issue is, What happens when Marquez stops Manny, cus I really think thats whats coming on saturday.
I'm a Pac fan... but mann.. I'm with you. Marquez style has always troubled Manny. Marquez looks to be in great shape as well. Should be a war regardless. :boxing:
"Mayweather may be thinking, 'I can fight Pacquiao now because he had trouble against Marquez, and I was able to beat up Marquez,'" said Pacquiao. "This is what boxing fans are waiting for."
Pacquiao is promoted by Top Rank Inc., while Mayweather is handled by Golden Boy Promotions, whose CEO, Richard Schaefer, said Pacquiao's assertions are "not true."
"The only person who can negotiate is Arum. Certain members of Team Pacquiao are trying to go around Bob Arum and have reached out to our side. We will not engage in this and support it. From what we are concerned, Manny Pacquiao has a boss, and his name is Bob Arum," said Schaefer.
"Bob made it clear through Dan Weinstein that he wants to get a Marquez versus Pacquiao fight done and has no interest at this point to sit down and get a Mayweather fight done. As I said before, Floyd is the no. 1 pay per view draw, the no. 1 box office draw and the no. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. As such, we have zero interest in waiting to see if Bob can get a Marquez fight done, and if not, we are second choice."
Arum said that he is focused on the Dec. 3 HBO Pay View televised clash between ex-titleholder Antonio Margarito and RING No. 1-rated WBA junior middleweight beltholder Miguel Cotto at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"Pacquiao's not necessarily wrong, but it's not right either," said Arum. "Things are happening, but so far, nothing solid."
