Bum, no. That's a hugely insulting word that should only be reserved for awful fighters (if even that). However, he isn't all that great at 135. People may come to realise this in November...
You think Katsidis will show us that JMM isn't "all that great"?
JMM is elite LW in todays competition, and was elite FW and SFW by any standards. As much as I like Katsidis, he is really not in Marquez' league.
What do you consider under skills? If mental traits are accounted into skill, then it's definately Hopkins, since he is far more disciplined and their work ethics can't compare.
If only physical traits in their primes...well, I can't decide. Toney had better overall defense, Hop was better tactician. Toss up for me.
No worries.
The bold is exactly what Kats will look to do - nullify that superior skillset by charging in, applying relentless pressure (i.e Diaz 1) and not giving Marquez the chance to get his usual counterpunching rhythm going. A good example of Marquez needing some time to get into said rhythm is the first Pacquiao fight. Granted, he dominated Pacquiao after round 2, but that was when the latter was stylistically a wild, crazy lunatic.
My point is that Kats is capable of repeating that same kind of round 1 as the Pacquaio fight - i.e. scoring flash KDs and forcing him on the defensive back foot - but it's up to him to finish Marquez when he has him in that kind position because, as you said, it'll only be a matter of time before he gets his rhythm going and outboxes Kats for the rest of the way.
Also, I obviously realise Marquez is not an Escobedo who'll let Kats bully him around for 12 rounds (then again, Diaz did it in the first fight...) He's smarter than that, and Kats knows it. Thus, his only option is to stop him early like he did with Mitchell. There's no way Kats can decision Marquez convincingly. He'd be extremely lucky to get even an SD.
My message to Kats would be - swarm with your guard up like you've never swarmed before, and don't try to outbox the fella! We've got this.
Ok, we basically see it the same with different outcome. This is a great moment for a bet, so I'll put all my 100 points on JMM. :D
edit: make that whooping 429 points.
Now, don't get it twisted - I said Marquez isn't all that great at 135. Obviously he's great otherwise, but it's perfectly possible that Kats will show Marquez's age. Just look at the success Diaz had in the first fight - he made Marquez look old and flustered.
Didn't want to twist, was just asking. Thing is, age can slow down JMM some and take away some reflexes, but it cannot annull his style. He is one of the best counter punchers in sport and has a great chin and decent power at LW. Besides that, he was never KOed and is always in tip top shape. Katsidis is stronger and bigger than him and he will cause him trouble till JMM figures him out and then is only inevitable.
On the other hand, every fighter comes to night when he grows old. Casa was also never KOed till JMM came.
We'll see. He's only had 3 fights at the weight, and the first 2 of those were extremely difficult outings for him (the scorecards before the stoppages reflect that).
Ok, we'll see. I just don't think Kats has power enough to stop JMM and he ceartanly doesn't have the skill to outpoint him. But, like I said, father time always comes, sooner for some, later for others, so we'll have to wait.
Morales - Maidana isn't worth PPV, but that fight with Guerrero-Katsidis, Wright-Malckin and return of Kirkland is worth some bucks. Whole card looks great.
When the prince was in his prime and being trained by the Ingles & managed by Warren, he was unbeatable.
This only goes to show how overrated and overhyped Hamed is. He was far from unbeatable.
First time he ever fought truly elite fighter, he got schooled, took him year to get back for one fight, then retired, inspite the big words.
Which goes to show he never really had a heart of champion, and his boxing fundamentals were also not on the level.
What he head far above level is his power and athleticism, but those things can only take you so far. Maybe he truly belived he was best there is and his team kept him away from likes of Barrera, Marquez, Norwood, Morales...
But, his hype was really tremendous and I don't know if it is possible at all to resist it if you lived in UK.
As for thread...Not easy to call. JuanMa is also way overrated and overhyped, but is bigger guy with better fundamentals. Before anyone mentions his chin, I'm sure his near loss against Mtagwa was due to poor gas tank.
Yes, insightful. So logical and obvious.
In this Youtube video you can see that Vitali is pissed and really wants to smack him and Haye is putting brave face thru embarassement.
Since I can't post links due to my low post count, watch in Youtube video called "David Haye wants Vitali Klitschko in German TV".
Wladimir is a ATG... i dont care what anyone thinks about him, his style, or the "weak heavyweight division".. he is a great champion... i respect him alot.. and admire him.
They are both ATG HW, and they will get appriciation when they retire, like was the case with Lewis.
Both are great champions and great athletes and they would be top contenders/champions in any era.
Yeah, but its kinda like expressing the opinion that the sun is hot. We know Haye b!tched out of the klitschko fights, hes been offered too many chances, if he really wanted it and really thought he could win he would have taken one by now.
Yes, thank you for saving me the typing. :)
I love JMM, one of my favorite fighters, but you can't say anything against Katsidis. Man is warrior and acts like a man. Rare thing in today's boxing.
