I rewatched the Floyd fight, and I think he's just as fast or slow as he's always been. it seemed like a bad style matchup to me. I doubt it would have made a difference if they fought a few lbs lighter. He just couldnt get off...it happens. Is it fair?
he had one fight above 135. had to go up two weight classes to a catchweight floyd didn't even make.
believe it or not, going up in weight is not easy as pacquiao makes it out to be.
thats becuz he didnt make floyd drain himself
Ok, we basically see it the same with different outcome. This is a great moment for a bet, so I'll put all my 100 points on JMM. :D
edit: make that whooping 429 points.
Tell y'what, I'll get back to you when the fight draws nearer - who knows, you may have more points by then if you stick around. :D
No worries.
The bold is exactly what Kats will look to do - nullify that superior skillset by charging in, applying relentless pressure (i.e Diaz 1) and not giving Marquez the chance to get his usual counterpunching rhythm going. A good example of Marquez needing some time to get into said rhythm is the first Pacquiao fight. Granted, he dominated Pacquiao after round 2, but that was when the latter was stylistically a wild, crazy lunatic.
My point is that Kats is capable of repeating that same kind of round 1 as the Pacquaio fight - i.e. scoring flash KDs and forcing him on the defensive back foot - but it's up to him to finish Marquez when he has him in that kind position because, as you said, it'll only be a matter of time before he gets his rhythm going and outboxes Kats for the rest of the way.
Also, I obviously realise Marquez is not an Escobedo who'll let Kats bully him around for 12 rounds (then again, Diaz did it in the first fight...) He's smarter than that, and Kats knows it. Thus, his only option is to stop him early like he did with Mitchell. There's no way Kats can decision Marquez convincingly. He'd be extremely lucky to get even an SD.
My message to Kats would be - swarm with your guard up like you've never swarmed before, and don't try to outbox the fella! We've got this.

Looking forward to the JMM-Kats fight. I see JMM outboxing Kats. But the skin over JMM left eyebrow worries me. Having been in sooo many wars, its prone to swelling/cuts.
Didn't want to twist, was just asking.
No worries.
Thing is, age can slow down JMM some and take away some reflexes, but it cannot annull his style. He is one of the best counter punchers in sport and has a great chin and decent power at LW. Besides that, he was never KOed and is always in tip top shape. Katsidis is stronger and bigger than him and he will cause him trouble till JMM figures him out and then is only inevitable.

Floyd is just a bad ass MF anyway, thats why Juan looked bad.
also JMM was fighting two weight classes higher than he should have been. Floyd is such cherry picker!
Now, don't get it twisted - I said Marquez isn't all that great at 135. Obviously he's great otherwise, but it's perfectly possible that Kats will show Marquez's age. Just look at the success Diaz had in the first fight - he made Marquez look old and flustered.

On the other hand, every fighter comes to night when he grows old. Casa was also never KOed till JMM came.
We'll see. He's only had 3 fights at the weight, and the first 2 of those were extremely difficult outings for him (the scorecards before the stoppages reflect that).
Ok, we'll see. I just don't think Kats has power enough to stop JMM and he ceartanly doesn't have the skill to outpoint him. But, like I said, father time always comes, sooner for some, later for others, so we'll have to wait.

You think Katsidis will show us that JMM isn't "all that great"?

JMM is elite LW in todays competition, and was elite FW and SFW by any standards. As much as I like Katsidis, he is really not in Marquez' league.

Style wise,I would give him a chance to beat Berto.
Berto couldn't ko Urango, has a suspect jaw and is a gift for counter punching.
Berto would own, stop JMM at 147....
Bum, no. That's a hugely insulting word that should only be reserved for awful fighters (if even that). However, he isn't all that great at 135. People may come to realise this in November...

He wouldn't beat anyone in the top 10 at 147 IMO.

He was more flat footed than the 130 Marquez.
Marquez couldn't hurt Floyd and Floyd could hurt Marquez.
Floyd was obviously bigger and stronger and it helps you to beat a smaller guy.
The size was a factor,I'm not saying Marquez would have beat Floyd at 130,I'm just saying he had no crack at 146.
Being weaker and lighter than Floyd, the guy wasn't going to put a Duran vs Barkley simply because Floyd ain't as hittable as Iran Barkley by miles, and as much as I like JMM he isn't a beast like Duran was.
When a guy jump 2 divisions,it means nothing P4P wise.
