Am shocked that this is gonna be on HBO PPV. When Maidana is coming off a loss on HBO world championship boxing, and Morales hasn't looked all that good on his comeback either.
I know it's a good undercard and all, but should it be on PPV and will it do well?
In order to have a PPV you need a network to broadcast it and collect the fees. A boxing promotion isn't set up to do that. HBO PPV can. The network always takes half of the PPV revenues. They don't get live crowd or foreign broadcast money.
This is how the real boxing world works. If you take the time to do the research you will find this out.
Wow thats very intersting.
So it's an HBO PPV that they didn't have to pay for but will get half the revenues of? Who the hell is GBP's accountant? :lol1:
I find that extremely hard to believe, any articles backing this up?

Neither HBO or Showtime are buying this.
So what would you rather have, the ability to purchase or it to be one of those cards that goes untelevised?
Listen folks, all PPV does is give people the option to buy a fight that otherwise would not be seen. HBO doesn't spend any of its budget on this, freeing up money for better fights, so everyone wins.
If you have that much of a problem, then don't buy it. No one is forcing you. Personally I'm loving it because this will be the first time in a while that I have been able to purchase and watch a Morales fight (one of my all time favorites) instead of waiting several days to download it.
GBP is who is putting up all of the money. HBO PPV just broadcasts it and takes 50% of the PPV revenue.

Some of you guys fail to understand the dynamics of boxing on PPV, and like it or not the current model will not change anytime soon.
The reason why the UFC is doing so well is because they embrace cards like this.
I'll be buying this card. Morales-Maidana is going to be a war...probably a short war, but I think the rest of the card is going to be good enough to make this PPV worth it.
Morales - Maidana isn't worth PPV, but that fight with Guerrero-Katsidis, Wright-Malckin and return of Kirkland is worth some bucks. Whole card looks great.
Since when does GBP do its own PPVs? I also have a hard time believing HBO would turn this card down for an after dark slot.
