I think Hopkins realised he was a little too green to compete with Zags at that stage, hence the softer opposition.
I hope this was of some use to you. :dunce:
Being a tough guy seems to get you a cult following nowadays. I don’t like him, or dislike him.
He’s just a slugger, who doesn’t care too much if you hit him as long as he can land his shots. Lost his last two big fights IMO, and only won his first one because Victor decided to trade with him before bitching out.
Edit: Arguably lost to Corley, and probably would have lost to Guerrero.
It was his 16th fight, against a guy who probably fought the best fight he ever has and even then was starting to wilt from R9 onwards. I’m pretty sure Angulo was ill prior to the fight too.
*Pats the dog*
Would be cool if he took one more fight before retiring, that fight wasn't a great way to go out, he didn't leave it all in the ring.
He's not the type of guy to leave it all in the ring, or any of it for that matter.
I was very disappointed with his performance against Klitschko, and I'd be happy if he just disappeared quietly.
I can't understand why a fighting nation like Mexico would get so hyped over this kid?
You've had 100's of great fighters, and then this guy comes along... Who’s pretty unremarkable, barring the fact that he looks Irish.

Red K'd for being a 'Maidana Hater' .... When you gotta hand out red to people for stating facts, you know you're backing a loser.
I don’t know if he loses focus during his fights, but for someone with his reflexes and movement; he gets clipped a lot - and his chin doesn’t inspire confidence.
Powers respectable, nothing special though...
Only a Maidana hater would say he lost to Corley and Morales and not give him a credit for his good Ortiz win, its OK though i guess you don't like entertaining fighters. He was below par against both Corley and Morales but he won both fights.
He eked out a victory against a 37 year old journeyman in Corley.
An MD over the bones of Morales, which most people scored a draw. I gave it to Erik by a point.
And in regards to Victor; it was more a case of Ortiz losing, than Maidana winning. He figured he was fighting some cattle farmer that he could blow out of there in a few rounds. But to Maidana’s credit, he blocked those punches with his face in admirable fashion and eventually made the tulip wilt.
Maidana’s tough and aggressive. That’s it.
I seldom talk about a boxers personality, but just look at that guys twitter. He’s a complete twat.
I’d love to see Gamboa move up and wipe that smug grin off his face.
It’s been 3 years since I last saw him, and this one probably won’t be televised either.
If anyone ever had a case to complain about their career, t’is Collazo.
from 1981
it was before ali's last fight and hearns was on the undercard
Despite the right hand, I wouldn't be shocked if Hearns was holding back a bit with that version of Ali.
Of the numerous hw prospects I've followed through the years now, Rob Helenius seems like the more promising one. In just 16 pro fights, he's fought and beaten impressively, some very good competition. And he seems like he's getting better and more confident in each successive fight. IMO he's the biggest threat to the KBros right now. He's got devastating power, decent boxing sklills, he's patient and paces himself, he's got a good chin and he's good finisher. His style is also very entertaining and fan friendly.. Really, what's there not to like about this guy?
Mixed truth with hype here.
He's the best of the prospects, but really nothing that either Klitschko has to fear. The gulf between champion and contender is ridiculous in the HW division -- and the bridge between the two is too short for any real learning curve to take place.
all that power and speed....i'd give 10 years of my own life and give them to d'amato so he can stay with tyson and make him the best heavyweight of that era
lewis, holyfield, dougals would ve gotten retired by iron mike
Original Team Tyson FTW.
Barring Mike’s legions of detractors, I think enough people realise that Mike was already on the slide by the time he got in there with the other notables from that era. It’s a shame.
are we sure that guy didn't lift weights?
He was a physical phenom, at the age of 19 he was c. 200lbs of muscle. From what I can recall he was mostly doing callisthenics during that time -- I don't think weights were ever an integral part of his training.
And I thought the ‘Calzaghe Deception’ was embarrassing.
I: Castillo.
II. Floyd.
I forget the scores, it's fair to point out that Floyd wasn't a 100% in the first fight and was a pretty clear winner the 2nd time around, healthy.
But based on his personality, and his "affection" for his current trainer, he's not gonna be changing anything up anytime soon. He should leave (whatever his name is) for a better trainer... I think Roach would do wonders with a with his abilities.
I really don't see what abilities this guy even has, he's just a pitty pat boxer with a high pitched voice.
Urango's gone back to raising pigs, seriously.
I’m not too concerned about America’s boxing scene.
I can’t imagine the average British fan getting excited over Wards style.
If Carl wins, it helps validate him in the UK; more coverage, more exposure, more interest in the sport.
