Everyone was so hyped on him after he KO'd Urango, even I was. People were touting him as future P4P great.
He then gets what many people thought was ''gift'' against a inactive Kotenlink in his hometown.
In his big superfight, he fails to deliver and then claims of burning in his eyes, to the ref when the fight is called and he is beaten on techincal decision by Bradley.
He then fights big punching but limted Lucas Martin Matthysse, Devon gets dropped and again most feel he has been given a gift in his hometown.
Wow, talk about a hype train falling apart.
But based on his personality, and his "affection" for his current trainer, he's not gonna be changing anything up anytime soon. He should leave (whatever his name is) for a better trainer... I think Roach would do wonders with a with his abilities.
I really don't see what abilities this guy even has, he's just a pitty pat boxer with a high pitched voice.
Urango's gone back to raising pigs, seriously.
Problem with Devon Alexander is,he's complete sh^t.I wish I could say something more positive about his abilities but I can't.The guy just doesn't know how to box.Until he learns how to actually throw a punch properly, then he'll continue to remain in mediocrity.
His career isnt over and he's still young

Hes 23.
FFS.
We weren't the ones saying he's a future p4p king and going to beat Bradley and be the man at 140. He's still going to do that, huh? Plenty of people said that.
alexander loses one fight and he's a hype job.
fukken fairy @ss boxing fans.
3 losses in a row is pretty bad. there's no way he beat Kotelnik or Matthysse and he of course officially lost to Bradley.
He is also boring, i wouldn't mind never watching him fight again, unless he actually starts putting on an entertaining style.
Its because most of the fans on here are about 16 and haven't watched boxing long enough to realise what is actually going on because they have no experience.
Devon is not a hype job, never was, he is a very good fighter who has great natural attributes but has not worked on his weaknesses and probably could do with another trainer to take him to the next level. He has no defense whatsoever and that is his main problem, he uses reflexes and speed as defense and that is always a dangerous game unless your roy jones. He needs to learn defensive technique, keeping his damn hands up would be a start! He let Kotelnik cave his face in with a jab simply because he did not have his right hand high enough, this is basic stuff!
I think he has a lot of potential, but I knew Bradley would beat him, his urango performance was highly overrated because it was a ko, which sugar-coated an average performance up to that point. NSB always gets over excited by KO's and KO punchers. He was ready for Bradley but I believe he still has as much potential. He needs to improve and I don't think that is going to happen with Cunningham, he could do with being a little more compact and just concentrate more on defense, small adjustments would take him to the level he should be at, which is not having close fights with Matthysse and Kotelnik.
HBO likes the tale of the black ghetto prospect come from the ruins to glory and success. Most of their audience is most likely black considering their black comedian comedy shows and other black appeal marketing.
So yes, they will over hype his type.
If you have HBO like you say you do then tell me what appeal to ghetto black people does shows like, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Hung, Curb Your Enthusiam, Bill Maher and Entourage have?
Damn the internet is full of bigots and racists sh!t is crazy
to be fair most of the hype came from a hellish knockout against a guy with an iron chin
since that fight he hasn't set his feet and thrown one big punch
usually a guy who scores his first big knockout goes "that punch" happy
maravilla's dropping that left hand like a puncher these days
khan is throwing the hook to the body (after dropping chino with it)
etc
but yes
he fights most of the round like an amateur
I think some people are hyping Ortiz up more so now because he is fighting Floyd... No one even made a big deal about Berto but when Ortiz beat him all of a sudden Ortiz is the next coming of jesus christ for some people...
It is incredibly annoying the level of of hype Ortiz is getting now, because of freaking Andre Berto. I'll admit I underestimated Ortiz against Berto, but that win doesn't prove him anywhere near capable of competing, let alone beating, Floyd Mayweather. It's like everyone forgot the stretch from the Maidana fight to the Peterson fight.
He crushed Juan Urango and everyone was impressed since Ricky Hatton had such a hard time with Urango.
But from there he just never got any better.
He didn't crush Urango though. He did really well in the first 4 or 5 rounds, then Urango started winning all the rounds, and then Alexander caught him with a perfect punch. Alexander was not destroying Urango.
He was certainly overhyped by many. He's young enough to turn it around and become a decent champion, but I highly doubt he'll ever be a fighter near the top of the p4p list, like people were once saying.
Alexander the fraud, yet another overrated American hypejob who got owned by an Eastern European.
He was outclassed, schooled, exposed, dominated and humiliated by Ukrainian warrior Andriy Kotelnyk.
Kotelnyk-Alexander was the worst robbery of 2010.

I think it was more his trainer but yes Alexander is a hype job.he lost three times in a row in my eyes anyways Matthysse,Bradley, and that guy he got a hometown decision starts with a k I just forgot his name.
I think Ortiz is exciting, and i also think Floyd is fighting the next best ww he can fights. So kudos to him.
I have no illusions however that Ortiz will pose a great deal of trouble to floyd. This should be a dominating performance.
But who the **** knows. The guys over at HBO does a great job with 24/7. Hell, it fooled me to believe Hatton actually stood a chance against Floyd. :)
I'll probably be tricked, and sit here hyped up with adrenaline rushing in september.
