I was watching the fight with some friends who happens to be doctors. They thought hatton died instantly after the left hook. Damn that was one of the hardest punch i've ever seen, pound for pound.

If there is a lesson to be learned at the hatton and pacquiao fight is, manny is improving. If you base your strategy on his past fights you're in for a surprise. The filipino is improving vastly.
He doesn't neccessarily look good. Styles make fights and Hatton's style turned out to be tailor made for Pacquiao - i.e come forward with no defence..

Style wise I guess you could say Zab, but Pacquiao fights more unpredictably and off rhythm. Also he won't gas or lose concentration
Very good post. Pacquiao is not a textbook boxer he is unpredictable very fast, strong and explosive. He is a difficult matchup for anybody because everytime you fight him is a surprise you cannot set a specific style to counter his. And remember a lefty judah clipped mayweather so im sure pacquiao will do as well I don't know how floyd can take it though.
Pacquiaos' left straight can be a huge problem for mayweather shoulder roll defense wont work against that. Floyd must adapt the peek-a-boo style of defense then counter ala cotto, wright and ofcourse use grant gloves (w/c is a drawback because it lessens the damage of a punch unlike the reyes gloves). my 2 cents

You can say he didn't earn the shot because he didn't get the mandatory slot, but how many times do we see fighters from lower divisions instantly move up and get a shot? No one seems to complain then. What is special about the heavyweight division? Right now, the heavyweight division is special; special needs that is. Waiting for a mandatory slot would have taken over a year anyway and the buzz for this match-up is right now. People keep saying that Wlad is being generous giving him a shot at all, but let's not pretend that there isn't something in this for Wlad. Haye and hype that comes with him are giving Wlad his biggest payday in some time and perhaps ever considering the way the deal is structured.
The way this deal has been put together suggests to me that the Klitschko camp really didn't want this fight. I imagine they wanted Haye in against Vitali, who they are more confident in - which is why they tried to make that fight first, before the Gomez mandatory scuppered it. In putting together such ridiculous terms, they expected Haye to turn it down, because this deal isn't even remotely close to being fair.
I like Wlad and I respect Vitali, but I dislike their management.

there's 3 gameplans for floyd. potshotting floyd, rope-a-dope floyd, and late-rounds floyd.
Rope a dope floyd = dead floyyd. Against pacquiao you don't play against the ropes. Pacquiao punches hard, fast and doesnt gas mayweather would'nt want to be on the ropes taking non-stop punishment.
It is very poor really. If they were so confident, brave why would they insist on fighting the duration of 3 fights if they happened to lose a couple they'd already be heavy over dogs in?
It's basically anti competitive behaviour imo, and dominating the division un fairly. Guy wins a fight, he wins the fight. 1 re match ok, but another one with your big brother again if you happen to win a second time, is complete madness and just stinks of someone doing anything they can to ensure they win.
If you lose, gracefully accept it, congratulate the winner, allow the sport to progress, get a re match immediately well ok, another if you lose again v's your brother, dear dear, really lame. First of all... Marquez said he was going to 140 RIGHT after the Juan Diaz win... they are fighting at 144... so you can get over that real quick...
Because pacquiao is going at 140 thats why, its all about the money. But any boxing experts knows that 140+ is not Marquez' natural weight. He is 36 years old gaining that much weight will definitely affect his performance. Same as floyd fighting at 158 it will have a great effect. Thats why it is unfair.

We've seen more weight drained & fighters who overtrained of late than those who put on too much
Boxing is a performance sports that involves reflexes, dexterity and speed. Going out of your natural weight will affect all those factors whether your healthy or not. Weight drained fighters are result of poor discipline. Dela Hoya vs Pac is a different issue since oscar is 20lbs below his natural weight so its definitely the risk he took to earn $30 million.

Fail. Gaining weight is much easier since you only need to go on a high protien diet and strenght training. But this is boxing not the nfl gaining weight will be a disadvantage since if it is not your natural weight you will be bloated. Whereas losing 5lbs of water a day before a fight to make weight and gaining it come fight night is far better than the latter. You don't know anything about training.

Pea much better technical fighter than Pacquiao. But Pacqiuiao is much more exciting than whitaker more than anything. The filipinos career is not yet over we'll where he ends after that. I believe the reason why people like atlas, dundee, etc doesnt like pacquiao is because of his style this old school trainers have'nt seen anybody fight like him. Cotto is not a draw compared to pacquiao. His stock dropped severely after the margarito fight. That said cotto needs pacquiao more than pacquiao needs him. If he wants the money vs pacquiao then go down in weight. If not then fight mosely, simple as that.
Filipinos are cool and would tolerate certain things. But when somebody's head heats up there is no turning back, its do or die. I wouldn't talk shit in the Philippines if I was Floyd. To those people saying pacquiao has no defense. Here's the definition of defense: resistance against attack; protection. If your saying pac easily gets hit watch his last fights against diaz, dela hoya and hatton. He doesnt use shoulder rolls, peak a boo shell defense like floyd does but he uses awkward head movements and angles to avoid getting hit. Emmanuel Stewart said it best pacquiao has very good defensive skills so unpredictable. Did you see the 1st hatton knock down? Thats defense and offense all in-one.
