Pac already surpassed Pea.
I was a boxing fan in the 80s with SRL, Duran, Hearns & up to Tyson. After Tyson lost his mind by chewing Holyfield's ear, that's the last time I follow boxing. I hear this names Chavez, Sweepea, DLH, Trinidad, Barrera, hamed, Morales starring the Boxing world in the 90s but they just names to me. They really never capture me as a sports fan.
These 90s era for me was the Jordan era. Everything in sports was below Jordan. For us it's not necessary for us to have HBO/SHO just to follow boxing. Nobody there really captured my attention after Tyson. Well DLH was there dominating the scene but for us, he's just like a Pretty face that sells tickets. I've seen his fights with Chavez & Trinidad but I say to myself, this guy is no SRL or Duran. Sweepea for me is just one of the fighters that is on DLH's hit list. For us he;s not a must see guy.
Then came Nov 2003, I saw the ESPN news, A Filipino beating A Legendary Barrera!! So I check some Pinoy news & I get interested. Then Finally X-mas 2003 we finally got a Hold of the tape of this fight. After rd 2 & 3... I was in Awe... I can't believe that this Filipino has the flash of a SRL, Hearns & Duran in him. I was so impressed that after the Party, I spend the whole night researching on this guy. Finally got a hold of his Boxrec & in 2 weeks time & got a hold of his 12 fight collection before the Barrera fight. After I watched all those fights. It becomes clear in my mind that this new Boxing star is in the Mold of an ATG like the SRL & Duran.
Fast forward today, what else did this little dynamo achieved? All Time Greatness my Friends!!! In 2003, in my first viewing on this guy, I already likened him to be comparable with the 80s Greats. Today He's achieved more than the 80s Greats. That's How I rate this little Guy now. He's already my top 10 ATG. Pacquiao now for me is the Greatest Boxer that I have seen in my Lifetime. Sweepea is not even belongs in those debates coz I've never seen him live(on TV) in my lifetime. I wonder why???
Pea much better technical fighter than Pacquiao. But Pacqiuiao is much more exciting than whitaker more than anything. The filipinos career is not yet over we'll where he ends after that. I believe the reason why people like atlas, dundee, etc doesnt like pacquiao is because of his style this old school trainers have'nt seen anybody fight like him. Even emmanuel stewart said that of all his years in boxing he never saw anybody fight like pacquiao. He's more of a boxer, brawler type not much technicality but his speed and quickness makes his style effective. i really dont see pacquiao as a boxer the kid is a fighter. He is one for the ages, we won't see any fighter who fights like him in a hundred years.
I agree with the bold. He's unique in the way that Mike Tyson was unique. He's a special fighter. I've heard people who are not even fans of boxing, talk about his fight with Hatton. Pacquiao is bringing new fans to the sport. It's been years since I've heard regular people talk about boxing like they way they're talking about it now. And that's a direct result of Manny Pacquiao's great ring performances.
p4p Pacquiao is a better ATG.
COme one. 4 lineal titles in 4 different weight classes.. Who else done that?? Whitaker and De La HOya couldn't even do that
Some people really get carried away with this lineal bullshit. That title is too diluted to take seriously. There are top fighters that Pacquiao did not fight at 130-135 (Valero,Guzman,Cambell) and no one can truly say he beat the best at 135 or that he cleared out the division at 130. What Whitaker did at 135 is more complete than anything Pacquiao did at 130-135-140. There are a lot of top fighters from those divisions that will never be matched with Pacquiao. Beating Hatton was big but it doesnt mesan he cleaned out the division when you still have young top fighters there.

I am really surprised by some of these answers. I completely agree with Scott also. It's not just slightly debatable with the edge to Pac or anything either. I actually think Whitakers resume is still better, apart from him fighting the same level of fighters who also happened to be in their primes.
The best fighters Pac has faced are Marquez, Barrera, Morales and Oscar. Whitaker faced the best version of Oscar, one who was not even slightly comparable to the fighter Pac faced, and that is no excuse or bias, just plain fact. Pac faced the worst version, Whitaker the best. Go watch the fights.
Barrera, Morales and Marquez. Julio Cesar Chavez, Azumah Nelson and ... well, I was trying to match them up a little but Trinidad is not even remotely similar to Marquez. Chavez and Nelson are better than Barrera, Morales and Marquez. Trinidad is arguable.
Then you have the plethora of 'that era' of champs both guys faced. Whitaker faced more (only just by one or two more champs at 13 from memory) and often very fine fighters just as Pac did. In fact the more I think about this the more I laugh out loud at anyone thinking it's not even debatable. I think it's highly debatable if Pac has a resume as good as Whitakers.
I've always been a stickler for a guy who rules one division for some time also. I think it's nearly a prerequisite for true ATGreatness. They face all the those slightly less known champs who are quite often better then the big names. Think about this: Imagine if Pac cleaned out 130...He could have gone through Barrera, Morales, Marquez and then some other guys like Guzman, who is less known but probably the hardest to beat of the lot. This though is off topic and a general 'what if'.
If anyone can explain why this isn't debatable I would seriously love to hear the reasoning. Maybe it's memory failure, or just never having seen Whitakers fights or any idea who he actually fought. I don't know. "Not even debatable" though? You've got to be kidding me.
I know you would have wmute and I would love to hear why you think he might have the better names. I realise that you're not saying that this isn't debatable though mate.
so what do you think about hatton ruling JWW for 4 yrs. then PAC entering his kingdom and trouncing him.
i hav no problem with whitaker ranking higher than manny pacquiao...
sweet pea dominated a single division... manny has not... yet...
he actually dominated two (35 and 47) ! that makes him very unique. Only other fighter I can think of doing that would be Ray Robinson (47 and 60)
This thread has been just absolutely sickening to read. I fear for the sport...
:lol1::lol1::lol1:
Wait a min...how da fukk is Pacquiao winning this poll?

Manny's dominated the top guys in many divisions.
What do you all think?
Who's accomplishments are better and warrant a higher ranking on the ATG list?
Discuss.

sweet pea most definetly im really glad people know there boxing by saying this. only thing is manny is still 30 and he can surpass pea later in his career and he is taking the right path but i think manny is probably at the end of the top 60 fighters of all time right now maybe even barely
misssing out in a top 80
