I don't know, I'm of two minds about the whole thing. Part of me agrees wholeheartedly with those who say Thurman's theatrics, especially the attempts at badassery, come off as cringy and contrived. The soft spoken gentleman routine is clearly the more natural fit for him, and there's no shame in that. Part of me also thinks a huge segment of this sport's fans are far too hung up on image and persona, fiercely rejecting anyone carrying the faintest whiff of idiosyncrasy or "geekiness"...not that boxing is unique in that regard. Ponytail? Flute circles? Oh no this will not do...no individuals allowed, only cartoonish alpha archetypes. Persona and pursuits outside the ring ultimately have no bearing on talent and skill, but one gets the impression a huge segment of fans would like to will that correlation into existence.
Is Loma being so conspicuously omitted because of likely division exit or because people actually think Garcia would spark him and thus not have him at 4 at the very least
By a lot of rounds, do you mean 3?
Chisora was getting battered, outside of a few spots, beyond the 3rd round.
A draw is irresponsible. Indefensible.
Precisely how I feel. 4 to Chisora at absolute most. He came on like a bull early on but once Usyk found his next gear the pendulum completely swung and there's no way I can see a draw here. I was overconfident in Usyk's ability to close the show and seeming power at HW though.
Other. You've got some catching up to do!
No he seems to be displaying signs of paranoia — claiming that Fury put metal balls in his gloves, that Breland was trying to ensure Wilder would lose, all kinds of ****.
Fair enough. With the last few weeks of anticipated fights Wilder has been about the last thing on my mind. Do have to play some catch up
I have absolutely no idea what this is specifically referencing but I have to say it made me laugh. Is this based on the underwhelming SoCal mcmansion purchase or other shennanies
Feels like pick em/7-5 either way to me with motivated Saunders...factoring in Saunder's last showing and potential brainworms from covid + the lost Canelo opportunity with a gun to my head, I'd lean Plant 8-4/9-3
It’ll be a great fight for sure.
Absolutely, I expect fireworks. I personally don't think the prospect of a full on Brook win is that strong but I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see passages that plant that seed of doubt
I have this nagging feeling Brook will have a troubling (for a Crawford fan) amount of strong moments en route to a late Crawford TKO with lots of crowd-pleasing back and forth. As in, legitimately rattle Crawford once or thrice, possibly with KD. Just kind of an intuitive impression going from a precedence of Crawford looking very human on the way to closing a show and what comes across to me like a very motivated Brook sensing what is assuredly his last real hurrah.
This is assuredly just an excited boxrec lackey jumping the gun. When firm date/venue details start to emerge from the likes of here we'll know it's on its way to being finalized and legit
Given that he looks healthy and shredded rather than emaciated it's probably an indicator of a more gradual long term weight refinement in the months leading up to this fight rather than a torturous water dump (if you take Spence at his word he's been grinding away in the gym since early this year it makes sense), i.e. favorable for Spence
I think he probably doesn’t really want to box anymore. Started from the camels fight. He seems to just be in it for the payday. Nothing wrong with that.
This seems very likely to me. Also doesn't he have a recent new model GF or something, maybe whispering sweet nothings in his ear? Which may not be be helping things in that regard. We've seen way better from Danny clear as day against better than Gabe, so exposure talk makes no real sense. Could be his heart may have just left the building.
"KO glass chin Jacobs which will somehow elevate my consecutive fanfiction Plant/Canelo KOs even though Jacobs is a glass chin and thus not all that dazzling a body for the alleged wrecking ball of 168" Like could the logic not be self-defeating and contradictory for once
I absolutely think that he is approx 5'7", with GGG coming in at around 5'9" for comparison. The issue of height in boxing is distorted largely because not unlike Hollywood, damn near everyone seems to misrepresent their true height. I think the overwhelming majority of fighters are a couple inches shorter than their stats on boxrec, et al, to the point where it's almost literally take what's on paper and subtract 2.
One must also keep in mind that if there's anyone Romero loathes more than Garcia it's Davis, so ignoring the obvious - who gives a **** what Romero thinks about literally anything - there's no way to reliably know if he really thinks that or he's just throwing shade at the bigger enemy
I see a one sided beatdown where Gennady makes Canelo his concubine.
Well I do love your use of concubine. Incredibly underrated word. Anyway this is all subject to change or stay the same pending how the ginger looks tomorrow
Yeah I think so. Lets make the fight with Zman!
I know I'm using bull**** triangle theory and maybe Jacobs was just being a weirdo. Absent the other week you would expect him to trounce Sze and reasonably fast without a blink. Fielding though, meh. I think he would stop him too just not any faster than GGG
I still see a more one sided iteration of the second fight in Canelo's favor as the most likely outcome and Golovkin looking sharper than his last two against just a guy doesn't really change that in any way. Although I stand by my impression from last year pre covid when this was seemingly on track for this year that Canelo doesn't actually close the show. The chin is just that freakish imo.
I think Williams, who has a decent engine himself and a decent chin (he went down in R2 vs Andrade but it's not as though the latter closed the show and anyone can go down if caught in just the right way) can absolutely outgun Jr in the big, dumb firefight this will probably be even though I'd favor Jr by the tiniest of margins. This is pretty much Jr's level. I wouldn't abandon all hope personally
I know who I'm believing. A key component of Plant's inner circle who was present at the hospital vs a nerd on twitter who failed to link to any kind of source to back up such a bold claim for nearly two days, then coughed up a picture of a document that could be faked by the average modern day 14 yr old. Tough choice. And even if it's true, it clearly wasn't a break of the magnitude of BJS's, requiring no surgery etc
I think he could come back and give a good, entertaining performance circa now (next 12 months etc) but not more. I see the prospect for victory as slim to none.
Lol you know perfectly well you aren't alone in this view. This is a great fight with the intrigue of Davis' equalizing power. All the hypothetical horsemen matchups (+ Loma/Shakur) are great honestly, even though I can't stand most of them personality wise.
People really are sleeping on Plant regardless of the outcome I think a lot are in for a big shock.
Is it ignorance & a safety in numbers thing or do they simply not realise just how good Plant is? I have no idea but that guy is a lot better and has a far greater chance of outboxing Canelo than he is getting credit for. I actually think that guy is one of the best pure boxers in the sport right now.
Maybe it's option C - thinking he's a little worse (not a lot) than Saunders (the closest obvious point of comparison) in all or most departments, noting that he lacks even the southpaw element of the latter that had historically troubled Canelo, observing a seeming deficit in the kind of power that would really command Canelo's respect, suspecting his chin is very meh etc, and coming by that take completely honestly? This is isn't ignorance or "delusion" personally speaking; I did put some degree of thought into this as do most here
