As has been noted on this site before, Forrest doesn't like fighting southpaws, Williams wins, I don't think Forrest would be able to keep up with Williams and the southpaw stance would give him trouble. But if Forrest can establish his jab, he'd have a chance.
That does makes, since Vernon's whole offense is built on establishing his jab. and I totally forgot about the southpaw factor
When I wrote this question the name that kept poping up in my mind was Whitaker but then again the way I asked the question I was almost begging for a Wright answer
Which southpaw EMPLOYED the Jab Best
Now had I written :
Which southpaw had the better Jab
You might would have considered leaning the Whitaker way
Toney is the only boxer in compubox history to land 400+ punches on his opponents 4 or more times.
And 2 of those times, the fights didn't even go the distance (Barkley and Williams).
Toney had an great workrate and an even better connect percentage when he was in shape (prime).
Calzaghe's 1000 punches wouldn't have been anything that Toney hadn't seen before.
Jirov threw over 1000 punches at Toney, and he hits much harder than Calzaghe, and what did that get him.
The way to beat Toney is not to outwork him, it is to be slick and pick your shots and stay away.
Wild volume punching is going to get you KTFO!
Also, I really don't think Calzaghe's handspeed comes close to a prime Roy Jones. I'm not even sure he is much faster than Toney in his prime. He definitelyl isn't accurate.
Toney at 168 was an absolute beast when he was at his best.
Toney at 175 was also a savage man when he was motivated. Watch the Freddie Delgado fight.
And even to this day, 5 years later, nobody at heavyweight has been able to lay a beating on Holyfield like blown-up middleweight James Toney did. That was skill and instinct.
Do you think that Calzaghe would last even a minute standing toe-2-toe with Sam Peter like James Toney did for 24 rounds?
I'm not saying that I would write Calzaghe off 100% against Toney, just that a prime Toney brings way more to the table than Calzaghe has ever seen. And I'm not sure Calzaghe brings any more than a prime Michael Nunn, who Toney KO'd at age 22.
Your absolutly 100 percent Right
Cant really put it much it better than that. James Toney at 168 will EAT YA UP
James Toney has a style suited to beat Calzaghe, I don't think he would though.
I think Hopkins has a good style too, he will land the cleaner and bigger shots which make the crowd go "oooh" but that will only be because Calzaghe fights off balance. Calzaghe will win on handspeed and workrate.
yea I always thought that someone like james toney/Mayweather would fit to beat calzaghe. someone who could stay in the pocket, block and then pic their counter shots
A question for yall , if we all agree that a younger super middleweight james toney would have beaten calzaghe then why are they saying calzaghe is the greatest SMW of all time (they said so in the HBO countdown show )
what fights from the past do u wish could have been made ?
Lennox Lewis v Riddick Bowe
Terry Norris v J C Chavez
Pryor v Ray Leonard
any others u would like to have seen
