That means camacho doesn't make the cut guys(southpaw).. though its said he was great at it.
I just wanna watch some superb footwork. Then boxers with Superb Combinations. Not good work rates.. SUPERB Combinations.
:boxing:
thanks a whole lot for anyone who can name some.:boxing::You_Rock_
I'll donate 200 to all the middle weights who fit the script.
Ummm.. not hating on the guy i love him too but we can leave mayweather out of this..We all know he has good foot movement.. I'm looking for something a lil different. So the ALI/Mayweather's naaaaa EVEN though they are probably the best at it.
You beat me to the punch. Leoanrd is generally reviewed and measured on his performances vs all time top pound per pounders at their peak. However Fighters like Floyd are measured vs simply good to very good fighters.
Leonard toyed with simply good fighters. Kalule was a good fighter. Andy price was a good fighter, he had beaen Palimino and Cuevas...hmmm was stopped inside of 1 round when he faced Leonard.
Another thing. Ray used movement sparringly or when he decided that was the style that gave him the best opportunity to win. But his footwork should be measured more so by his ability before he was retired to hit, pivot, and be at an advantageous angle to avoid getting hit, and allowing for those beautiful combinations that he threw. Combinations that Mayweather would dream of.
Mayweather used movement for mostly defensive purposes, while leoanrd was much more offensive minded. He would come direclty at you, that is until he met fighters that he could not do this against, hagler, hearsn duran. Hell he came after Beneitez another top all time great. Mayweather hid from his best foes that are not on the level of the oppoents leonard faced. Dlh he hid on the ropes and covered up,not wanting to have a meaningful exchange until after dlh was tired. Judah was winning thier fight until he self destructed.
Finally, go back and look at the hearns fight. Leonard used movement for the most of the 1st 2 rounds, then again in the 5th. He came down off his bike in round 3 and 4and there was some good exhanges. He got back on his bike in round 5, then we know what happened in round 6. Mayweather wont even fight Margerito, cotto, or Williams. Please dont compare Correls who has less reach than mayweather did to Tommy Hearns. Please dont.
i fully agree with this post
You can't ask a question...who had the best footwork when it comes to boxers, and then exclude southpaws.
What conventional fighters had the best footwork...?
very easy question to ask...
its like sayin who has the best jab... ya probably wouldn't mention Roy jones or george foreman... just a certain thing i was looking for.
when PBF fights a fighter as good as Hearns let us know not to mention the physical adavantages Hearns had
PBF does what he did against lesser fighters ,a prime Hearns is a lot better than a 34 year old ODLH
i think people forget Floyd struggled with lesser fighters like Castillo and had his fair shair of problems with Sosa ,ODLH and Chavez for 8/9 rounds
the first time PBF fought a fighter who had a half as good a jab as Hearns he was getting dominated and only came on strong because ODLH stopped using it

Sugar did show great movement early in the Hearns fight, but it got him nowhere. Floyd used his movement against anyone, and it got him inside or out. Sugar used side to side movement in the Duran rematch. Floyd could move left or right, side to side, backwards, and frontwards. Both were smooth.

Mayweather vs Corrales was more lesson in pin point counterpunching, with right, uppercuts and hooks....Mayweather did use great footwork, but not as much as Leonard did vs Duran in the 2nd fight. That being said, Mayweather had better upper body defense than leonard did thus he did not depend on is feet to avoid as much punishment as Ray did.
This is easy for the top 4-5. Ali, Leonard, Jones, Whitacker, Camacho, and Mayweather = top fighters with best foot work.
Top fighters with combinations. Leonard, Ali, Jones, Norris, Mayweather, Taylor
Combined foot work and combinations....hmmmm Ali, Leonard Jones, Mayweather..
That leaves the best IMO, This is very very close..
#1 ALI
#2 LEONARD (over jones only because jones really focused a lot on counters more than Ray did on combinations
#3 Roy Jones
#4 Mayweather at the lighter weights was amazaing,...look at his fight vs Corrales, and then vs Gatti
#5 Taylor great great combinations in fact the best combinations but not up there with foot work, if he had he could have avoided the power punches of Chavez like Whitacker did.
6. Camacho, in his peak was super fast with hands and feet.
7. SRR He started all this movement stuff...Could be higher, i just dont have any footage of him at the lower weights.
8. Norris great combination...great great combinations..However he showed the total package sparringly, alloweing himself to get beat many times by less caliber opponents may times before the age of 30.
Oscar de la Hoya has some amazing combinations and very meticulous foot work. For some nice foot work watch the first Chavez fight, or the Trinidad fight, for some awesome combinations see Round 6 of the Mayorga fight or Round 10 of the Vargas fight, and actually a few rounds of the Sturm and Hopkins fights aswell, when he was forced to throw some nice ones off the back foot.
Mikkel Kessler in todays age.
:lol1: Kessler is one of the worst he comes foward and goes backwards in straight lines
Chad Dawson has far better angles and movement than him
even Tarver has better footwork than Kessler he is better at switching angles
the top 2 candidates for this should be Leonard & Jones
Mayweather is good but he uses lots of upper body movement and he stays in the pocket more rather than use his footwork to offset his man and attack from angles like Jones & Leonard
strange as it sounds i think Israel Vazquez has good footwork for an aggressive fighter you can see how good at counter punching Rafael Marquez is and how good he is at fighting at range but he could not stop Israel Vasquez from closing the gap slipping his shots to attack the body
cutting the ring down etc
Meldrick Taylor (before the 12th round of his fight with JLC)
Ray Leonard
ah, Meldrick, nice one. his footwork in the JCC fight was fantastic.
you could also say someone like Tommy Hearns, but its gonna be hard to imitate someone like him, haha.
whoever said McCallum, I agree.
Daniel Ponce de Leon
Zuri Lawrence
Julian Letterlough
Kassim Ouma
Danny Williams
Acelino Freitas
Kassim Ouma and Ponce Leon are probably the most stationary fighters you can name. this thread is about footworks
