well, he fractured his left wrist in a motorcycle accident before the fight. i know he was hurt in the hopkins fight too with his right hand, but i've never seen him complain of a hand injury during a fight.
It always happens in boxing. People get overconfident.
I guarantee it will be one major factor which fucks Floyd Mayweather in the ass one day.
i feel like it already did in the first castillo fight, but luckily it looked like he learned his lesson because he looked good for the rematch, and he trains ridiculously hard, even for gatti. one question, floyd started boxing waaay younger than naz and jones, but he looks to be in good shape still. what do you think of that?
Fuego I was being sarcastic about scoring all of those even rounds but you are young and I did not expect you to get that.
In terms of scoring even rounds this has been a big debate topic for judges and it seems that there are many different opinions...some judges like Glenn Hamada refuse to score a round even, other judges regualrly score rounds even.
On HBO HArold will never score a round even and Merchant usually in a close fight always scores a round even.
I myslef dont mind an even round, especially in the first when fighters are feeling each other out shadow boxing each other, you cant get carried away with even rounds and if at all possible you need to declare a winner but I hate giving the first round to a guy when he does nothing.
great point, scap, about even rounds. I noticed that too. I'm with Harold Lederman 90 percent of the time in his judging. It's hard for me to score even rounds because of what diegofuego said, it really screws up the decision if it comes down to the wire.
Fuego's young, but both harold and larry are old boxing viewers and they differ a lot in their judging. I think larry just looks for different things.
taylor shook his head, which was a sign that he was dazed and trying to clear the cobwebs. also, his reaction time was slowed and bernard was able to lead with right hands without missing in the later rounds.
I guess Sturm deserves a shot for the title???
more than de la hoya, but that's a separate argument :) what is taylor talking about when he says his chin is good? I don't care about what he thinks about his chin. as a young fighter, it's never been really tested. Still, i don't think that's the determining factor. Hopkins is too old to KO taylor. I think hopkins will break down taylor's will in some way, shoving, low blows, frustrate the kid with philadelphia tricks and win.
it's a more fair thing to do, actually. I want to see kos or decisions, tko's always have an uncertain aspect to them. Over the years more and more fights are ended because of the ref's opinion, the standing eight would make it more definitive when the guy actually goes to the canvas.
Has Mayweather ever been down? People have to stop saying he ain't got a chin just because he doesn't let people test to see doesn't mean he doesn't have one.
i think his glove touched the canvas, when he doubled over in pain after breaking his hand on some guy's head.
tito wanted to fight winky toe to toe also. I'm gonna give winky the credit for that; he kept trinidad off with the jab and covered up when tito got close.
I agree that hopkins performance changes accordingly, so how do you think he'd adapt?
I'm assuming that hopkins would win, cause he's superhuman and all, but i have to idea how.
"what an awesome show, what a great great fight"
is hopkins- trinidad
"how do you like it, how do you like it" is barry tompkins
on the hagler- leonard fight
please believe me :D
Do you know the rounds?
I just keep thinking about Gatti-Robinson 1, where Robinson was kicking Gatti's ass the entire ten rounds, when all of a sudden Gatti throws a wild left hook that practically gets Robinson out on his feet. It could happen to Floyd too. Doubtful though.
"If my lip reading is correct, he called him a bitch"
Lampley talking about David Telesco talking smack to Roy Jones.
Foreman's response, "well you're not a lip reader"
with his poor stamina as well? :D
haha, you're right, I should've thought about that. I'd probably give stamina of one of those old timers who could go 15 rounds, like ali or frazier.
The reason hooks and other kinds of swinging punches knock out people more is because of the angle in which they connect. When hit on the chin by a sideways punch, the head twists and the blood vessels in the brain are ripped from the sides of the skull. This screws up the equilibrium worse than a straight punch in which the skull bounces back and the brain strikes the back and front of the skull (standard concussion, might not even notice it until later). A perfect example of this when Vitali used that short left hook on Danny Williams at the end of the third round. Danny had taken far harder punches, but that one was right on the tip of his chin.
I liked Rocky 3, cause it had Eye of the Tiger as a theme song. Most of the big things happened, with Micky dying and Adrian coming out of her shell, Rocky losing, redefining his fighting style, Apollo Creed taking over. Rocky 2 and 4 are actually my least favorite, just because I feel like nothing happens. i didn't see V cause of all the bad hype, but I'm still interested.
The question mainly surrounded his state in prison. I understand and believe that Tyson would be able to fight off tons of guys. But I could also picture a scenario in which he'd be so mentally dominated and scared that he'd just cave in. Sorry to diminish Tyson's aura of invincibility, especially at this time, but i just don't think that he'd survive as well as say, Hopkins, in jail. I have the utmost respect for Tyson, and have always admired and rooted for him as a fighter. This is pure curiosity.
remember the superfight between Hearns and Leonard? and the fight of the century between ali and frazier? weren't those guys undefeated, and that leonard hearns fight was the highest grossing fight yet in all of history. I think being undefeated like hatton and mayweather has a lot to do with suspense and ticket sales. The Jones loss to tarver was so great because most people considered that his first loss( they didn't buy the dq against montell griffin as a REAL loss). The first loss of any great fighter's career is amazing.
what an awesome display of speed, strength, and skill by pretty boy floyd!
-Lampley
and look at the granite in Gatti's chin as he keeps coming forward through the hailstorm of punishment!
-Lampley
This is a war!
-Roy (probably not likely to be heard)
if you don't think mayweather can hit hard, look at his knockouts against manfredy, who gatti couldn't hurt, and corrales, who castillo couldn't knockout. I would disagree with mayweather's vulnerability to the left hook. he keeps that right hand close to his cheek and his left hand across his body. I think that a wide looping right hand could get over his shoulder and land better than a left hook which would be blocked. However, any wide punch will be telegraphed and that's where mayweather can easily duck or avoid. Gatti's in for a rough night.
do you think there should be a rematch between cotto and corley, cause i'm really impressed most of the time with Cotto's fighting style and professionalism. Corley just doesn't stand out to me.
emmanuel stewart is the legendary trainer of kronk boxing gym in detroit. He's up there with the greats like angelo dundee. The most famous fighter he groomed and trained was Tommy Hearns. He commentates on HBO now also, switches with Roy depending on the night.
You think corley could beat corrales and castillo? I would say definitely not enough power. I feel that both of those guys have better chins and more power than mayweather and Corley was barely able to rock Mayweather. Corley seems just like a gatekeeper kind of opponent, a tough contender who isn't too skilled.
to continue the circular logic
Barrera beats Morales
Morales beats Pacquiao
Pacquiao beats Barrera
Juan Manuel Marquez sits on the sidelines and waits for his turn.
Sorry to hijack the thread :)
Mayweather vs Hatton would be cool for sure. Boxer vs swarmers have always been the most fierce, competitive fights ever. Just don't want to have to wait two years for this to happen.
I love Gatti, I love Mayweather. I can't tell if this is a win win or a loselose situation for me. whatever the case, i'll be watching it live for sure.
hbo isn't just for floyd, there's tons of boxing on that channel. So really it comes down to the monthly basis of how much boxing there is compared to the flat fee of whatever amount it is.
Chop Chop Corley is the second most featherfisted fighter in teh 140 to 147 after only Cory Spinks and he still managed hurt Mayweather.
and cotto... what does that say about pbf and cotto in the future?
