There's one thing that could solve all these pussy stoppages and give us our money's worth. Why don't the unified rules of boxing use the standing eight? It seems to make sense to me to give the guy some time to recover and get back on his feet. Who knows how many more fights Tommy Hearns would've won if he had just fought with standing eight counts. Anyone agree?
well the fighters should know when they r in trouble its ok to take a knee. give themselves some time to recover.
unless they're fighting in puerto rico.
it's a more fair thing to do, actually. I want to see kos or decisions, tko's always have an uncertain aspect to them. Over the years more and more fights are ended because of the ref's opinion, the standing eight would make it more definitive when the guy actually goes to the canvas.
pathetic, STANDING 8 COUNTS ARE FOR PUSSIES AND BIASED REFS, if u are wailign on someone and about to KO him why would u want to ref to step in and save the fighter and rob u of a win if your oppenets come back, standign 8 count is a horrible thing, if the man isnt fighting back and he is on his feet the ref stops it for a tko
Biased refs? It gives them an excuse to stop a fight, when a simple standing eight would suffice. When a fighter gets beat up and knocked down, he gets ten seconds to recover. A standing eight counts as a knockdown, just without the fighter having to go to the canvas. Seems reasonable to me that they should get a chance too.

I definitely agree. There are a lot of times when a fighter is hurt and just won't go down. You know if he just got a few seconds to recover they could get back in there and do fine, but as it is the ref has no other choice but to stop the bout. I'm all for bringing back the standing eight. It's kind of like not giving a boxer a ten-count when he gets knocked down. Of course Castillo should have gotten an eight-count. Now we'll never know.
I think the referee should have the ability to call a standing 8 count...have it in his back pocket so to speak...imagine if JL would have gotten the 8 count?
what do think would have happened if JLC got that standing 8 count?
