After re watching a bunch of Jones fights at Light Heavyweight and seeing how awsome he was again, I was thinking is Roy the best Light Heavyweight of all time? I know his two losses to Tarver and Johnson but you could argue that was an older Jones. But I guess you have to take that into conisderation for being the top LH ever.
I liked Victor Galindez, Bob Foster, and Virgil Hill and maybe Galindez and Foster could have beaten Jones but I don't think Hill could have.
I also think two of the best who never made champion were
Yaqui Lopez and Jorge Ahumada.
So what do you think of Spinks? I've seen some fights of Spinks and he was a baddass. Thats the type of fighter that would have made Jones Jr. stay at super middleweight.
Yeah, spink is trained to beat boxer-punchers. He would have kicked roy's ass, the guy beat larry holmes, gerry cooney, qawi, eddie mustafa and marvin johnson.
dude, foster's big wins were vicente rodon and dick tiger, i'm positive roy's resume is better than that.

Jones beat plenty of good fighters, and several HOF caliber fighters in stunning fashion. Toney, Hopkins, Hill, Griffin...ordinary fighters do not beat these type of guys routinely, and they especially do not beat these guys the way that Roy was able to.
True. But some of his performance was shitty. I don't recall how many fighters he started taking the distance just to go the distance. And at one time he did run of of good oppisition then when he found some, he didn't step in the ring with them, he could have "probably" beat them but thats all assumption. He could have been even great by simply beating these guys, but theres a lot of what if's.
wasnt michael moorer a LH and wasnt Holyfield a LH? i remember hearing suttin about how Moorer was knockin out ppl krazy in LH.
Moorer was very overrated at 175. He had no big wins at that weight class....
Retreads like Frankie Swindell (who had Moorer out on his feet), Leslie Stewart, & Ramzi Hassan.....just don't cut it.
He could punch, was very exciting, & may have accomplished something had he stayed at 175. But, as it is/was.....he did very little that was noteworthy.
Billy Conn, Bob Foster, Archie Moore, Michael Spinks - all achieved more than Roy Jones.
RJJ could have achieved more, god knows he had the skills, but he didnt prove it in the ring.
Jones problem, he chose the weaker opposition. I've seen some Spink fights and that guy had both speed and power and imo, a better chin. Don't sleep on Spinks. Many say Moore, i've also heard Bob Foster was a killer at Light Heavyweghts, i've only seen clips of Foster and haven't seen Moore a light heavyweight. But Foster with the reach, skills and power Roy would be in trouble. Moore was able to fight in older age and still be dominate i don't know if Roy would have taken Moore. And even before Tarver got to him, some Puerto Rican almost got to Roy when he knocked him down and this guy wasn't considered a big puncher. Roys greatest assite was his power.

Ali should have more losses on his record than he does. No one's career is perfect and frankly it's unfair to compare because the heavyweight division in Ali's era was full of challenges moreso than Roy's was.
I reckon Naz must be the best featherweight of all time, he looked like the shit against Kevin Kelley.

Only thing was Jones was the PPV King for a while. The two most popular PPV fighters of recent were Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.
Roy's PPV sales weren't good until 2003 when he fought Ruiz. Besides the Toney fight which did solid #s, the others did poorly. Then there was the Ruiz fight which did well. Then he put up solid numbers after that for the Tarver trilogy.

I know he lost to Barrera, but he wasn't in his prime then so you can't count it.
Y'All must've forgot. Wikkid.
No, he looked like shit against Kelly. Flopping all over the place, against a fighter who hadn't impressed in years leading up to that fight.
Archie Moore- easy win for moor,
Ezzard Charles-charles would box the head off him
Bob Foster-foster would knock him out
Gene Tunney-gene tunney would just beat him down
Michael Spinks- would hav fun with him the same way he did with larry
Roy Jones looked the bomb, but to say that he could have beat Archie Moore based on watching him beat Richard Frazier
No one has said that, speaking of misreading and misunderstanding.
Rick Frazier- 39 year old former police officer
Otis Grant- WBO middleweight champ
Derrick Harmon
Glen Kelly
Reggie Johnson - himself a former Middleweight champion
That's a weak argument. All fighters fought these level guys in some of their fights. Sugar Ray fought plenty of lower tier guys and guys that were not on his level as fillers. There are not enough fighters to fight A-classers in every fight. You really show your lack of knowledge when you try to discredit Roy for beating Reggie Johnson.
Yes, based on skills and how he beats his opponents, Roy is the best 175er ever, in my opinion.
Roy Jones did not duck Michael Nunn....
Nunn was already beaten by guys like Frank Liles & Steve Littles at 168 (& by Rocchigiani at 175).....yet we are to believe that his KO win over the very fragile William Guthrie scared Roy ?
Get out of here.
