will it hurt is legacy. On the countdown to Hopkins-Taylor, Jim Lapley said it would and Emanuel Stewart basically called Hopkins overrated, so what do you guys think?
point is, he wont beat taylor. if by some miraculous occurence he happens to edge out a win, he'll definitely get props, especially at his age.
but, his claim to fame is a win over tito, who was way overrated as a middleweight to begin with, and who winky beat with even greater ease then hopkins did.
therefore, ill consider hopkins an all time great when he beats winky wright, who he wont even fight (i wonder why).
Exactly, i think hes gotta beat winky, taylor and jones so really be a great but i dont think he will
No doubt, I dunno if he'll beat Taylor. It's difficult for me to put faith in his fights when he's got so few left. But, I'd really like to know why Tito was overrated as a middleweight. If Tito is overrated, were the middleweights he beat just not good? Because I've never heard anyone say that about them before. Also, why is Wright suddenly being big upped? Pre-Mosely, who began in the 130's, who talked about this guy? Lost a decision to Vargas, who began in the high 140's. Lost to a guy named Harry Simon. And was knocked down, what, 4 times against Vasquez. So, he fights Tito and defeats Tito, the "blown up welterweight" in a decision. Why does Winky get respect for outpointing Trinidad and Hopkins can't get any for making his Pops come in to stop it? A knockout versus a decion, which is better? Hopkins beat Tito inside and out, outboxed him and outbrawled him (who's ever outbrawled Tito?). Winky's been around for a minute and noone mentioned him. HIS THREE biggest fights were against fighters who moved up. One defeated him. Mosely a former 130's figher HURT him a good rematch, and the other was decisioned after his weaknesses being exposed by two previous fighters. Why is Winky suddenly great? And what does he have that will give Hopkins trouble? And WHY is he worth fighting more than Jones jr. or Tarver?

If noone wants to give him his props now, then no one ever will. A win against Taylor won't help his legacy but a loss will hurt it, because people have been looking for something to discredit his talent. Hopkins has fought two former welterweight fighters. One being Tito Trinidad who KNOCKED OUT then middleweight champ William Joppy in a couple of rounds and then defeated David Reid. Joppy's been knocked out by how many other middleweight fighters? Zero. How many said that Tito was gonna knock Hopkins out? Be honest, now, because I KNOW there were alot. Tito was a legit middleweight if you ask me, just because he didn't start there doesn't mean that he couldn't fight at that level.
OSCAR didn't belong in the middleweight division. And even though it just wasn't realistic after seeing the Sturm fight, how many people thought that Oscar was gonna beat Hopkins? I know there were alot of people on this board choosing Oscar. Tito didn't lose stamina, strength, or speed in the move up to middleweight, so how's he blown up? MAYORGA is much closer to the definition of "blown up middleweight" than Tito.
Man, peeps wanna dismiss Hopkins for fighting two former welterweights, but wasn't some of Hagler's biggest fights against former welterweights??? As a matter of fact, what weight did Roberto Duran start his career at? 118 or 119 lbs? Is Duran considered a blown up fighter, cus this guy moved up pretty far. Somebody correct me on that weight if I'm wrong, though, cus I might be.
Alot of people thought that Howard Eastman would knock him out, but he lost too. If nothing else, you have to admit that everybody aside from Jones jr. that people said he was going to lose to, he defeated.

did u get ur 100 post today. if u did i think u have to wait till tomorrow.
Emmanuel is trippin, but as far as his legacy, i agree.. if he gets Knocked out, yea, it will drop him in the rankings. but he he loses a close deciscion, gets a rematch, and then knocks taylor out, thats the only way i see redemption if he loses..

"I'm still picking Hopkins to win on points, but I wouldn't be surprised if the fight went the way of Taylor."
prboxer.....
Transparent, bro'.
That's the kind of pick (or non-pick) someone makes to cover their ass.
...basically....you think Hopkins will win, but you threw that other part in there so, should he lose, you can come on here & say "I told you so".
You're doing what I've seen so many others on forums do.
Jabs, I said exactly what I meant, I believe Hopkins is going to win on points (an SD, probably) because the close rounds will be scored in his favor. I want Taylor to win, yes, but I won't be the one on here saying "I told you so!" because I'm not saying he will win. All I'm saying is that, if he wins, I won't only not be surprised, I'll be happy. If Nard wins I'll be right, LOL.
I see a close fight, that's all. It's as close to a pick-em fight as I've ever seen Nard in but I believe his reputation will earn him the win, even if he doesn't actually fight to the victory.
Fuego I was being sarcastic about scoring all of those even rounds but you are young and I did not expect you to get that.
In terms of scoring even rounds this has been a big debate topic for judges and it seems that there are many different opinions...some judges like Glenn Hamada refuse to score a round even, other judges regualrly score rounds even.
On HBO HArold will never score a round even and Merchant usually in a close fight always scores a round even.
I myslef dont mind an even round, especially in the first when fighters are feeling each other out shadow boxing each other, you cant get carried away with even rounds and if at all possible you need to declare a winner but I hate giving the first round to a guy when he does nothing.
great point, scap, about even rounds. I noticed that too. I'm with Harold Lederman 90 percent of the time in his judging. It's hard for me to score even rounds because of what diegofuego said, it really screws up the decision if it comes down to the wire.
Fuego's young, but both harold and larry are old boxing viewers and they differ a lot in their judging. I think larry just looks for different things.
Who the hell scores even rounds? That's how you fuck up great fights. Jesus Christ, Morales-Barrera III would have been a draw if one judge didn't decide to score one rounds even. You don't score even rounds unless a fighter loses a point.
