This is a no-brainer. Irrespective of what may be alleged on-mic, Ward wants to fight in the UK. He's salivating at the prospect of the event occurring at Wembley Stadium, per his own words.
I believe Ward knows that, regardless of venue, he's not going to be getting the bigger showing of fan representation, and he understands that, in financial terms, it's a much better move for all involved for the fight to take place in the UK.
Furthermore, fighting in the UK would allow Ward, who should be the favourite, the underdog role.
This fight is getting made, and it's going to be at a U.K. Venue.
When I was reading the article I was pretty sure when this was typed up...
"Pathetic Froch believes that would make him the best pound for pound fighter in the world."
That when that was said it was not a quote from Calzaghe but something the OP typed up...
I know there was no quotation marks so... ????
Carl Froch is far from pathetic, his resume and his bravery of not protecting his 0 by going into cherry picked opponents proves he's not pathetic.
Agreed. I thought it was an OP mistake at first, so I tracked down the article, linked here.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/inthering/view/317590/Unbeaten-Joe-Calzaghe-batters-Carl-Froch/
And, as you pointed out, there are no quotation marks, the author, Kevin Francis, is just showcasing his journalistic integrity and professionalism. Then again....it's the Daily Star...
Joe stoping old man Hopkin is greater then anything that Froch have ever done. Yes I said stopped because Hopkins was on the verge of being stopped due to exhaustion but his Oscar moment saved him. Had not for that Joe would have TKO the old man. The old man went on to do great stuff after being beaten by Joe.
We do realize that, "almost stopped", and "stopped" are two different things, correct? Whilst there was, indeed, some drama involving that incident, to be sure of a stoppage is a pretty generous speculation. Nigel Benn was 'almost' stopped by Gerald McClellan. Unless the situation plays out, you can't say definitively.
ANGRY Joe Calzaghe delivered a verbal KO to 'deluded' double world champ Carl Froch.
...Pathetic Froch believes that would make him the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
Outside of a few publications, such as The Telegraph, the British press is largely a sensationalist joke. Journalism is supposed to be objective. I think that this article overplays Calzaghe's reaction and presumes way too much.
First post on NSB since about December 2009. I agree with Bute Andrade I, but I would never forgive myself if I didn't mention Barrera Morales I.... I would have loved that horrid beautiful bastard of a fight to carry on another three....
TBH I don't envy judges. I generally keep and save the scores from fights I've watched and go back a while later to see if I still agree with myself. One thing that I uniformly find is that my scorecards tend to reflect a natural bias towards my disposition on those fighters. If I prefer a particular fighter over another... there are just instances in which I'm going to defer to my bias. I've seen this in my review of fights like Khan/Barrera, Broner/Malignaggi, Hatton/Collazo and, most recently, Porter/Ugas.
Sure, I wish there were more clearly empirical methods, but I do understand that the "sense" of a round also has to be taken into account. Unfortunately, try as I might, there's no getting around the fact that when I assess a fight, I'm doing so as a human being who is intrinsically biased, I doubt judges are capable of doing different, but I suppose we have to just trust that they're a bit more discerning.
lolollol. Tyson takes the cake I've never seen a good complete list of his shit.
Here you go mate.

Kostya takes this, bradley is a little too open and reckless in my opinion. It is true that the kostya that fought hatton wasn't necessarily washed up but had been through too many injuries. His body was giving up, he had a pretty bad shoulder injury going in to the hatton fight, he said it hurt every time he threw a left hand. You could see he was just trying to decapitate hatton with one right hand the whole fight.
The beautiful thing about tszyu in his prime was that he was a ko artist, but not someone who would just swing hooks and power punches, many of his ko's were very fluent. He generated unbelievable power from straight punches. It is true he had his limitations, his height and reach made it so he was never gonna be a fighter who went through weight divisions, especially considering he liked to fight long. But at 140 in his prime, he is too good for bradley. Too smart, too surgical, underrated hand speed (in his prime).
Excellent and thoughtful post. Green.
Gotta go with my all time favourite fighter, Kostya. I don't see this necessarily being close either. I'd bet good money one a mid round KO. All technicalities aside, (tendency to drop his hands after powershots, occasional flatfootedness etc.)it comes down to the simple fact that it's near impossible to handle the power of prime Kostya. There's a reason he retired after the Hatton fight.
And overrated? You've got to be kidding me Dynamite. He's one of the more underrated fighters if you ask me.
Vince Philips?
Sure. It happened, but all of my statements still stand regardless of that one loss. Pac's been KO'd, and that doesn't make him any less of a fighter. Benn lost to Watson in his prime, Watson was not the better fighter. Tyson lost to Douglas, does that negate the fact that he was the youngest HW champ in history, and his place as one of the greatest Heavies ever? It doesn't. The fact that you bring up Phillips has absolutely no bearing on Kostya's career, which speaks for itself.
no particular reason,
i just like to know about it, id use the word fascinating but thats a bit wrong. interesting i guess.
Watch Nigel Benn vs. Gerald McClellan
Or Eubank vs Watson II. Benn/McClellan fight is more dramatic though.
Any Hatton fans care to let it out.
Right here. I'd rank may 2nd as one of the top five worst night of my life.
However, I must say that's what it took for me to make certain that I'm never quite so emotionally attached either to the outcome of a fight, or a fighter in general. I've since enjoyed watching boxing from an objective and (hopefully) unbaised point of view.
I think Kessler in his next fight in the Super 6 has a good chance of stopping Froch just on accumulation of punches, or from his corner stopping the fight after a one sided beating.
That's a hell of a lot more likely than a KO. I don't think it'll happen, but I can see his corner stopping the fight a lot more than I can see Froch going down. Were anyone to do this, I could see it coming from Kessler as opposed to any of the other fighters. As it stands, I voted 'nobody' to KO Froch in this tournament.
It appears as though every day there are at least two or three new threads imploring one "MUST respect Floyd for (this)", "Have to give credit to floyd for (this)" "You gotta admit, at least Floyd (does this)" It seems, at times, the hardcore PBF fans are just begging here... It needs to be put to bed. Most of the people who hate on floyd are never going to like him, and won't ever give him credit. Just like the huggers wouldn't hop off his d*ck for all the money in the world. I'm no hater of his, just not a fan of his either inside or outside the ring. It's unlikely that I will be.
Haye's mouth is really starting to annoy me. I'm looking very much forward to him just getting on with it and winning this fight, then he can quiet down and stop making a knob of himself until it's time for him to beat the Klits.
yeah its true. I found that out a while ago. While i used to think victor would smash him up in the pro's with victors last fight im not so sure now. Ortiz lacks heart and that is a major ingredient in becomeing a champ in boxing.
Quite a good win for Amir in the ams too. Unfortunately, I have to agree with your assesment of Victor. His last fight proved that his heart is far weaker than Amir's chin will ever be (which is saying something). He lost a lot of fans that day, he really let a lot of people down.
i dont really like any religion but if theres one thing i do hate its jews, so yeah im gonna root for the muslim in this one.

...Enjoy your ban, Hitler.
Morales and Barrera hate was fun to watch.
Other haters that brought fun to the sport were those such as Vargas, Mayorga, Tyson. They were the bad boys of boxing. Camacho Sr also, Duran's hate for Leonard. Ali made his opponents hate him because he humiliated them with so many clever words.
Ali was certainly a pioneer and master at getting under others' skin. The only time that I know of where he fought out of pure hatred was against Henry Cooper. Not being around back then, I'm unaware of the atmosphere at the time, I'm sorry to say.
Edition: I would put Barrera vs. Morales trilogy up there are one of the rivalries which has defined this generation of boxing, but not quite up to the standards of the one which I previously mentioned.
Never heard him admit when he was living the bad life that he was actually taking drugs. Has he ever admitted this?
And i wonder what drugs he was taking?
The guy grew up hard - what do you think? Regardless of that, it really doesn't matter, the guy is a great ambassador not only for boxing, but how sport can change a person's life, give them focus, and fill whatever void inside them is perhaps preventing them from being a good contribution to society. It doesn't matter what he did before he changed his life around. I'd let my son have a B-Hop poster on his wall. The man is a great role model and an example of doing what needs to be done if you're lucky enough to have a second chance at making it in life.
I have to say i agree, I used to be a big fan but for him to quit was bad but the interview afterwards is what really shocked me. He said im young i dont need to get beaten up like that. He must have forgot he's in a sport where the aim is to beat someone up and hurt them?? what does he want? a world title and fight people who never fight back or hit him hard??
I distinctly remember throwing the garlic rolls I got (was having a fight party) at the telly when he said that. He was embarrassed, and I think if he knew how cowardly he came off trying to save face, he'd have chosen his words more carefully. I, too, used to like the guy.... but there is no room for apathy, for vanity, or for cowardice in boxing.
Can you elaborate or give details? I know you were not there but what do you know?
We forgot to add NAZ he was a little bugger.
I think Haye is going down the dark side too,
:)
Cooper was a British Boxer who was a little on the racy side who refused to call Ali anything other than Cassius Clay, his given name. Ali deemed the best way to deal with this situation was to kindly perform surgery on Cooper with an extreme degree of vindication.
Naz was a bugger yes, but never generated a great rivalry with anybody.
I'm glad that you bring up Haye, his contract with the Klits which put him in a 3 fight deal, as well as his upcoming bout against Valuev certainly cements his aspirations to be come "The Slav Slayer" (has anybody said that before, or is that all my own?). I do, however, find some of his antics a little too contrived. I'll be routing for him all the way, no doubt, I just think he's going down a path I'll not be able to follow as a fan. He's the kind of fighter I could see one day doing routine appearences on WWE........
