Jacobs won but he definitely had an unfair advantage by rehydrating way more than the 10 lbs IBF limit and then refused to show up for the next day weigh in. Jacobs wasn't interested in taking GGG's belts he just wanted to win while GGG stayed within the 10 lbs ibf limit in order to keep his belts. I think thats one of the reason the judges gave GGG the win because Jacobs is not an upstanding guy, he pulled the same stunt as Lemeiux did last week trying to gain the advantage over his opponent.
I dont see anyone that can beat Floyd at this moment. Pac was the only fighter that stood a chance, dont know if he would still be relevant after being knocked out. We will have to wait and see how he does against Rios. Floyd is a shrewd businessman, if he is intimidated by a fighter he will dodge and find excuses and hope that someone comes along and damages that fighter then it becomes easy work when he fights that person. Case in point Cotto. He refused Mosely in his prime he chose to fight Baldomir instead of Margs when both were top rank fighters. But hey you can't knock him for that, he is preserving himself for the long run so he can make more millions. Yes he's got skillz but he gets no respect because I would prefer to see him display those skills against the best, and he hasn't.
What makes people think he won't struggle now to make 152. He has grown since then. Floyd knew exactly what he was doing. It's a shame he would fight Cotto at 154 but not Canelo. How can people seriously defend that.
Canelo should weigh in at 154 and take the penalty. Then let Floyd decide if he will man up and win the belt respectably.
Not a bad idea if Canelo was to do that considering what Floyd did to Marquez. But I think the agreed upon penalty for coming in overweight is in the millions, so canelo would be fighting for peanuts if he did. Now if he doesn't care about the money and refuses to give Floyd any advantages, go for it.
It was a lucky punch, Khan tagged him a few times Garcia closed his eyes and swung that left hook like his life depended on it. He was losing real bad up to that point and did not know what else to do. He went for the gusto, its like he said mein **** it am going all out caz this guy is too much for me.
I don't think it was luck.... look at the sparring footage before that fight - Khan was getting hit with big time, flush left hooks over and over again. Going into the bout, I thought the possibility of Amir being overtrained was high because of the postponments, but there is no way to quantify that...and even if it was possible, that isn't Danny's fault. He's known for that punch and Khan has been hurt with that punch from other fighters
Case in point, Sergio Martinez boxed the breaks off JCC Jr then in the 12th rd JCC caught him with a lucky shot that knocked him down and almost resulted in a KO. We all know Floyd is gonna box the breaks off Canelo what if for some reason Floyd makes a stupid mistake, something he wouldn't normally do that results in Canelo knocking him out. That is a lucky punch. Yes there is such a thing as a lucky punch. What JMM did to Pac was the same thing, the previous 3 fights JMM never floored Pac much less hurt him then all of a sudden he has knockout power. The reason why its called a lucky punch is because no one is expecting it, the fans are not expecting it nor the fighter on the other end of it. Garcia vs Mathysse, someone is getting knocked the F*%$ Out, no lucky punch there because it is expected.
Maybe if he took steroids he could improve his chin, other than that he needs to improve his defense to prevent his chin from getting cracked. He has too much pride inside the ring, he fights with emotion instead of intelligence. If he only had some self discipline he would be a phenomenal fighter, he has super fast hands but always gets wreckless, he is easily lured into a brawl trying to prove his machismo.
Cotto by knockout is the only way he could of beat Floyd. Back then Cotto had more power but for some reason it seems like he lost his punching power. He would stand a better chance back then of knocking Floyd out, there is no way he could win by decision. Is there currently any fighter thats capable of decisioning Floyd?
Khan= best opponent financially, fu*k all the BS about who deserves it, boxing is a business not merit based. Like other posters mentioned, Khan has never been outboxed, his weak chin did him in and Floyd is not known for knocking foes out. No other opponent will bring in the money like Khan will, bottom line. Stylistically this would be a difficult fight for Floyd, Khan has very fast hands probably faster than Floyd and would definitely trouble him. If Khan could get a chin transplant he would be undefeated from here on out.
Pac has the best shot depending on how he does against Rios. Other than some of the guys at middleweight like Lara, GGG or Martinez who we all know Floyd will never fight. If Rigo was a welterweight I would pick Rigo to outpoint him.
This argument is lame, how tall was Paul Williams again? about 6' 1" or 6' 2" with freakishly long reach. Manny is 5'6" Floyd is 5'8" judah is about the same. All the top welterweights at the time were way shorter than Paul, he could literally hold their heads with one hand while punching the **** out of them with the other hand while they wouldn't be able to touch him. Margarito was a taller welterweight about 5'10" or 5'11"and he didnt take the rematch, maybe for the same reason. Thats a fight Floyd would definitely not had taken, just too risky, the reach is just too much and you know Floyd only fights when he knows he has a clear advantage over his opponents. Only Sergio who is about 5'10" decided to take this fight which definitely put him on the map. Again this is a lame post lol.
If not Khan then who? plz dont say Garcia because he is slow as hell and Floyd would easily outbox him. Only someone that can match Mayweather's speed would give him a challenge. I can recall the fight with Zab Judah, Zab was giving him problems early until he lost his cool.
I kind of, just kind of liked the idea of this fight. Just cause Khan tends to come in aggressively with with combos and fast hands and he would have put Floyd to work early until Floyd figures his ass out after 2 or 3 rounds and puts him down multiple times or knocks his ass clean out.
But hearing this dumb mofo say you gotta beat Floyd at his own game just made me lose all interest in this fight...that's exactly what Canelo tried to do and trust me, Canelo's boxing skills and IQ are on a different level than Khan's and if he had just been more aggressive he could have at least made a more entertaining fight and given himself a punchers chance
Canelo's boxing skills and IQ are on different level than Khan's? I dont think so, maybe his boxing IQ is better but not skills. Canelo is fu**ing flat-footed and is easy to hit. Khan is quick on his feet and has faster hands than Canelo, Boxers with good power and excellent timing is what beats Khan all the time. I agree Khan has poor boxing IQ because his bravado takes over all the time, but skills wise Canelo cant f*ck with him.
Make the fight!
Its the ebst fight that can be made at 147, if you take Manny out of the equation.
Khan is right, fight him at his own game. Use your speed.
Khan has a better chance than ANYONE at 147 to beat Floyd, that is a stone cold FACT.
Been saying this **** for the longest, honestly there is no one out there that can match Mayweather's speed but Khan. The only other fighter to match him was Zab Judah.
Whoever wrote this, your kidding right? Paulie would knock Manny out with a strait right? lol I think certain posters should get banned if their threads are deemed ridiculous. Let's start with this guy, how to u know Manny's Chin is gone by the way? Manny has been knocked out before.
What's the point in testing simply for fights? Most boxers competing at or near world level are fighting, on average, twice a year. That's plenty of time to take the stuff in between fights and cycle the stuff out of your system before the actual testing begins.
Either do the testing all year round or don't bother at all.
This is what I suspect Floyd is doing. He trains year round and is the only fighter that walks around at his fighting weight. For what reason IDK, every fighter has to go training camp and trim the pounds to make weight for a fight.
147 is where he belongs, he didnt have much power at 154 and he was a bit slow. He should of done this along time ago, I dont know if roach is the right trainer for him tho. He is already a good offensive fighter, I think his problem was defense. If his defense was tight he would be unbeatable. If he had good defense even Margarito with the loaded gloves would not have beat him.
Ramirez is a heavyweight squeezing down to light heavy, hope he gets his ass beat. Cant stand these weight bullies always looking for an unfair advantage.
Jacobs won but the politics of boxing didnt allow him to win. First off, he was a 7-1 underdog and I am sure a lot of ppl placed their money on him in Vegas so strings had to be pulled to make sure he didnt get the victory. Second, he pulled a sheisty move by not showing up for the next day weigh in mandated by the IBF. Clearly he was far bigger than GGG tonight and all he did was remain cautious instead of dominating the smaller guy. Thirdly, if GGG would lost this would give Canelo all the more reasons to back out of a fight with GGG because clearly Canelo is shook. Jacobs won the fight but with the size advantage he had tonight he was suppose to outclass GGG or knock him out which he didnt.
Mathysse is a slightly better boxer than Garcia and a harder puncher. I don't see Garcia winning this fight unless he lands one of those big left hooks with his eyes closed.
There is no way Ginger wins this fight, he doesn't have the tools, only way to beat Floyd is by knockout and Floyd doesn't take risks to leave himself open. Depending on how Pacquiao performs against Rios, He might be the only fighter capable of beating Floyd. There are other fighters out there that can beat Floyd but it wouldnt make financial sense for floyd to face them.
What isn't good for his body is fighting good guys who are naturally bigger than him just coz he is happy being fat
I second that, I think after his father died his discipline went thru the window. All he has to do is manage his weight in between fights so that when he starts his training camp he doesn't have to struggle to make weight. Not sure if he can ease off his mother's cooking tho lol. Floyd is the perfect example of a fighter that manages his weight in between fights, all it takes is discipline and the right ppl around him.
I honestly thought GGG would of quickly destroyed Jacobs. This is a robbery for 2 reasons, GGG was a 7-1 favorite. If Jacobs had won, Las Vegas would be in a recession lol. Plus the proposed fight with Canelo would been dashed to pieces. Politics again.
Khan has to harden his neck muscles.
Lol Khan needs to add some granite to his chin, he won't have to worry about getting knocked out by alexander, doesn't hit hard enough.
Then again Jacobs pulled the same thing Lemieux did and refused to show up for the next day way in. The extra weight definitely gave Jacobs an advantage, he was way bigger than GGG. He lost a lot of respect for that, GGG came to win and hold on to the belts while Jacobs was only interested in winning by any means possible.
Broner is garbage and so is his trainer, him getting a new trainer does nothing for him at this point in his career. I thought Broner wasted too much time and energy dodging Mikey's shots and refused to counter, refused to let his hands go.
Rigo is the best
Can't wait for Rigo's contract with top rank is finished, time for him to clear out golden boy's stable now. For everyone that calls him boring, chess is also boring. It's about who has the superior strategy to hit more than getting hit. How come mayweather doesn't get criticized for it? Because he speaks English and makes up for it in trash talking. But in my opinion Rigo is a master of what mayweather would like to be.
