I am a high school teacher in the area (ie, Oxnard/Ventura/SantaBarbara) closest to Robert Garcia's gym. My students are over 95% Hispanic and MANY of them box, although the only former student of mine who trains at Garcia's gym is Francisco Santana from Santa Barbara. I can't believe some of the unprofessional behavior coming out of his gym, no matter how much I like the idea of non-boxers finding out the hard way just how tough the sport is. If I EVER found out one of my kids was beating up on an untrained dude off the street, practically for "fun" in the ring, I would be outraged, and it is absolutely indefensible...no matter how short the "sparring" session is, unless the trained fighter is literally just gonna tap the other guy...not actually throw hard blows.
What kind of message are these guys sending to the numerous socioeconomically disadvantaged Hispanic youth in the area, many of whom are at-risk of joining gangs or getting into other trouble when one of the supposed top trainers in the world is encouraging this kind of stuff? One of my students last year has like and 84-4 amateur record and is the epitome of a hard working, clean living teenager. The school he attended is rather "thug" and there are lots of fights on campus. I asked him in front of the whole class several times what he thought about all that and whether he would ever consider lighting up one of these supposed "thugs" who would be totally gassed out after 15 seconds of heavy exertion, and if not, why? I already knew what his answer would be and I was correct. It was a firm "NO" and he went on to explain to the class that as a trained boxer he is not supposed to do stuff like that. What Garcia does at times in his gym has about 2 degrees of separation from the kind of trashy behavior I expect of a bullying gang in the area...not a professional boxing trainer participating at the highest level of the sport.
That being said, at least guy didnt get hurt, but there is really no defense for that type of behavior. Like it or not, you are an influence on teenagers in your local community and they look to you for guidance.
I cant believe people on here still argue about whether Margs had plaster of paris in his wraps against Mosley, or not. The CSAC after the initial investigation ans sending the substance off to get tested said when they suspended him originally that the test results came back that the substance was sulphur and calcium...otherwise known as PLASTER once it gets wet...then it hardens to fit the shape it is molded in. Basically they slightly wet the stuff then wrap the hands and once the gloves are on and dude really got a good sweat going it would harden to fit the shape of his knuckles pretty much. Bottom line is the CSAC ran tests and the knucklepad was covered in the two main components of plaster of paris. Period.

WTF? and the whole article is bs. The dude said he had the fight even going in to the 7 round!!! WTF is that?
Hilarious. As soon as I saw the link for thew article I figured it was probably written by the same guy I read an article by on espn's nyc site previewing the fight. Try and find his preview article...he basically said Cotto was shot and that Foreman would box circles arund him all night...Cotto has nothing left...etcetcetc...the guy was really biased towards Foreman in his preview article and it does not surprise me that he would have it scored even and calling for a rematch. The guy obviously was playing favorites just based on his previous article.
How about this, Dick? We'll find someone of your approximate size and skill and have the two of you fight. We'll wrap your hands normally and then insert a knuckle pad that has been covered in plaster into your opponents wraps, and then see if you are still willing to step in the ring with him given your assertion it was/is nothing dangerous. If that is not anything dangerous, then you should be perfectly at ease stepping in the ring and going thorugh with the fight, correct? And if it turned out the punches sure did feel alot more solid and hurt more, you would simply attribute that to some other factor...but definitely not the inserts, right?
If you REALLY believe what you are saying, then you shouldnt have any problem fighting someone who did the exact same thing, right? And dont give me some stupid answer like "Im not a boxer so I wouldnt fight him in the first place!"...this is hypothetical.
lol yea he did. KO'ed him with some brass knuckles haha
Exactly. It took Floyd, Al Haymon, Leonard Ellerbe, and Mayweather's entire crew to stop the Big show...and even then Floyd had to use brass knucks to defeat The Giant.
The first segment they did pretty much WAS real, considering Floyd ****ing decked him with like 4 lightning fast shots and busted his nose. They may have staged the altercation, but Floyd really did crack him pretty good.
Either way, Brock Lesnar did this to him:
Has anybody ever uttered the phrase "sometimes less is more" to you? If not, let me be the first.
The zillion posts a day with every random thought that crosses your head or minor news story are really getting on my nerves. Seriously, Manny pacquiao's sparring partners just stepped off a friggin plane. Update me when they get their luggage and arrive at the gym, please.
Additionally, the ZOMG! VIDEO PROOF~~LOOK AT THIS!!! all caps headline crap is also annoying as hell.
It would be much more preferable to see you make ONE quality post a day rather than 25 bad ones. Similar to a good talk radio show, a few good calls per show is preferable than 50 stupid pointless calls that just take up airspace.
Holy crap I just looked at your profile and you have made 4000 posts in less than 3 months?!? Almost 50 posts a DAY???
I am done with my rant now.
I think he finished Jennings with a bodyshot, as well. I seem to remember Jennings took a knee in the corner after a vicious body shot and that was the end of the fight.
I would be interested to know how many fights out of 34 wins he finished with a left to the body, as well. Someone get on that ****...I'm busy working on my legdrops.
This was the first time I have seen Chad Dawson in with a fighter of any caliber that had the mobility and such to not just stand there and let Dawson fire off his stiff jab-jab-left combo that he likes to throw and it seemed to screw him up. Usually the old farts Dawson fights just stand there and let him throw 3 punches, do that arm flex loosening thing that he does, and then go back to work. Pascal didnt just stand there for him to hit...that being said, I think there was a 33-50% chance Dawson would have stopped him in the remainder of the 11th or 12th had the headbutt not occurred. All he had to do was step on the pedal on a few occassions in the fight and he coulda KO'd Pascal, i'm pretty sure. Whenever he hit him solid he had him ready to go it seemed.
Why are you basically ripping off the thread I just posted a few minutes ago? I just started a thread less than ten minutes ago proposing the following:
I'm surprised no genuises on this board have taken it upon themselves to conduct an unscientific experiment by wrapping their hands and inserting some rolled up gauze in there that has been covered in dry plaster before being rolled up and maybe even wetted just slightly, then putting on some gloves and hitting a bag for a while and working up a sweat. I would actually be very curious to hear what happens...whether after a while the insert would begin to harden like a cast would pretty much, or if nothing at all would happen. I will say that in the footage I have seen of the hearing where they pulled out the insert it looked SOLID and HARD. Not like a rolled up piece of gauze and thats all. It looked stiff and solid, for sure.
If we are actually talking about the most "compelling" matchup, I tend to think about the matchup that would garner the most attention and public interest/emotion. The only matchup that I think people would be as emotionally invested in as May/Pac would be...
Cotto/Margarito II
That is a fight that promoted properly would be HUGE if both guys win their next fight or two.
If Cotto won even a semi-close fight a III could even be possible.
you do realize the test results did not find bricks plaster paris none of that, you do realize they found trace elements of two compounds that are found in plaster paris.
So if Miguel really thinks those are the same wraps his ass is in trouble he better hope for a bad eye, because those wraps didnt exactly find the smoking gun, and knowing this that means well I think you know what that means...
its time to stop pointing the finger and waking up to whats really going on here....
I'm not even going to bother posting the video or the pictures, but I am curious...what is the **** that caused Margs handwrap to tear and look like there are chunks of stuff falling out of them in the 1st fight against Miguel Cotto? The ones where there are obvious rips and tears in his left handwrap and there is a rather obvious insert in there that looks like it is some sort of hardened substance that has split up and pierced the handwrap? Can you please explain it to me? What is that ****?
A person I know trains with Victor Ortiz, spars with him regularly, was in the entourage and at ringside last night and at the hospital today prior to the surgery. I was told by this person that Ortiz' jaw has 4 fractures and the massive bleeding was like some sort of internal **** coming from down in his throat. This person said the doctors told Ortiz he might never be able to fight again and that his jaw will be wired shut for 4-6 months, probably. I'm just repeating what I was told so take it with a grain of salt but it does come from someone who is close to Ortiz and was present for everything, including right before he went into surgery today.
Whether they were fought on separate days on on the same day, I say Cotto-Ginger outsells Chavez-Martinez. Same day would just mean by a smaller margin.
Why on Earth would Miguel Cotto or Canelo even agree to something like competing with another PPV on the same day, anyway, for such a big fight? Anyway you slice it, they would both be taking a significant loss in revenue simply due to the fact there is another good matchup on the same day.
If Cotto vs Canelo would sell 1 mil on a weekend by itself (just throwing out a random number), why on Earth would either one agree to potentially having the PPV #s go down a few hundred thousand b/c there is another fight on at the same time? It would make zero financial sense, especially in the case of Cotto.
Religion does matter....plain and simple...no doubt....Muslims don't like the state of Israel because they have been occupying Palestinian land for the past 60 years...killing thousands of innocent muslims....Israel continues to build settlements even though America and the rest of the world demands they stop for peace talks.......Salita walked in tonight with the Israeli flag...why??? isn't he American??? Khan must have been pissed
Lemme' tell ya' somethin' brothers!
Amir Khan did not beat up Salita b/c Salita is Jewish and Khan is Muslim. He beat him up because they are boxers and that is what they are paid to do. End of story.
24" Pythons.
After re-watching the fight I think Cotto got way too careless in the 4th rd and it ended up biting him in the ass. He seemed to be executing his gameplan pretty well and had pac on the ropes and hit him with some solid shots that were bothering pac and Cotto looked to be gaining steam. It looked like Cotto thought he might be able to get pac in trouble and he started winging like a wild man then BANG, got caught with the punch that put him down and left him glassy eyed. Dude could have had a chance to wear Manny down and potentially stop him late if he had not fought so carelessly after having success the 1st 3 rds doing what he was doing. It looked like he got confident and then got too aggressive rather than keeping it steady and collected. Too bad...
Because wittle Manny is fwaidy of the big scawy needle and doesn't want an ouchy booboo on his wittle awm.
Something tells me a 2 year old would have a hard time comprehending the previous posts. This is how you would explain it to a 2 year old as per the instructions of the ts.
Maybe TS wants PAC to fight matthew hatton
I do not WANT Pac to fight any particular individual. I asked a question that many casual fans would have. Maybe TS just had a genuine question that I was curious about and he could do without the typical dickhead snarky responses from idiots on this forum...ever consider THAT?!! Not every poster here has some agenda against one particular boxer or another. Some are just out for a discussion...although it seems that consists of less than 5% of posters here.
I think most will agree that Cotto didn't beat Clottey and that Clottey not only lost the fight for himself but is actually better than Cotto overall.
SSM right now is THEE WW champion, period. He has the strongest lineal claim and though lost a close fight to Cotto who Pac destroyed he crushed Margarito who made Cotto quit.
What do you want Pac to do if the Floyd things isn't happening, there is really not many places for him to go from here.
I would also disagree with your assertion that "most" would agree that Clottey is overall better than Cotto. I would like to see that fight again w/o a massive cut caused by a headbutt over Cotto's eye and see how it goes. Whatever the case, you are basically trying to say "Cotto didnt win...Clottey lost." If Clottey lost...then who WON?
Cotto got a paper win and didn't really look great. Clottey had that fight, Cotto was weakening mentally and like Atlas says Clottey didn't behave like a fighter and go after a weakening opponent.....so if you want to call that a win go ahead.
We talked about this on here and most ppl agreed that Clottey is better overall and I predict will do better than Pac's last 4 opponents and certainly will not get stopped.
If by "better" you mean he won't get stopped...then you are most likely correct. If by "better" you mean have more success overall in terms of inflicting damage on Pacquiao and the fight being relatively close, I am interested to see if Clottey can pull off the workrate to do that. He can sit there in his shell all he wants and probably last the whole 12 but that doesnt mean he is being successful.
And what about the live ppv ****ing of Sienna West by pacquiao? That doesnt interest you more?
the general public would probably only know the top 5 in the division, and they've been presented to you.
The general public would probably only know the top FOUR to be fair. No one in the general public knows who the hell Clottey is. I am actually very interested in seeing that fight were it to actually go off. Seems like some posters are under the impression I am against any of these fights. I just asked a ****ing question...no wonder real discussion never occurs here. Everyone is out to get in an argument.
maybe because cotto is a good fighter and he fought a lot of good guys?
don't know if you know this but generally guys fighting in the same division have similar opponents.
i know it's a shocker.
I don't know if you know this but my dick is larger than your entire body.
Yes, let's apply the triangle theory here. DURRRRRRRRRRRRR
I never said anything insinuating that b/c Cotto beat those guys that Pac would, too...THAT is the triangle theory. I just asked WHY he is targeting those guys b/c in my opinion the general publics reaction will largely BE the triangle theory once they find out Cotto already fought and beat all 3 before fighting Pac. Most will say "If Cotto beat those guys and Pac beat Cotto...then Pac will murder them. Why should I pay for this?" Right??!?!?
current rankings at 147.
1. pacquiao
2. mosley
3. mayweather
4. cotto
5. clottey
what's wrong with pacquiao fighting the #2 and #5 guy if he can't get a fight with #3 and he just finished fighting the #4?
Never said there was anything WRONG with it. I just asked the question that most CASUAL boxing fans woulda ask. I actually would really like to see a Pac-Clottey fight...I was asking the Q more b/c I picture the casual fan thinking there was something wrong with him fighting guys who lost to the guy he just beat. That is the way the general public thinks.
