Agreed, Toney would completly dismantle Tyson at this point. Toney has a good enough chin and defence to make it through the first round, the only round where Tyson is dangerous these days.
I think "Second to" Nunn came back and was a two time super middlewieght titalist but lost his chance at a light heavy strap when he lost to Graciano Rocchigiani. So, he wasnt completly shot after Toney, but he was no longer P4P material.
In other words, although it is very painful, you can be fully recovered in 4 to 6 weeks!!! Maybe even sooner.
I love your signature man, Return of the Living Dead is one of my favorite movies. :D
I think that undisputed stauts is really confered to a fighter by the public and the media. Regardless of who holds the Ring Belt or any alphabet soup belt for that matter. The reality is that Vitali has had all of his fights including is title winning preformance on non PPV and he is a seemingly likable guy, who is big and gave Lewis a hard time. Thats why he is getting as much attention as he is which is still not that much.
Wow...that really makes Hopkins look bad. But he redeemed himself when he beat that guy Felix Trinidad..
Actually Roy didnt make B-Hop look that bad. Hopkins was never hurt in that fight and was always applying preasure, He was just outboxed by a prime Roy Jones. Hopkins had not entered his prime yet either. The truth of that fight was that it was boring as hell and if these guys fought again it would be even more boring because of the low output of punches these guys throw now.
I think that he would have a great shot at beating either Ruiz or Brewster. However he should definatly avoid Byrd and Vitali. He needs a win over a respected heavy, kind of a no brainer. But I think he has a shot over a couple of them. I agree that a fight against Moorer is boring and pointless.
Chris Bryd is about as appritiated as he should be. Face the facts he does not inspire, the audience, he has never captured my imagination the way a great heavywieght champion should. His last couple fights do not help this perception. He certainly should not be a major PPV fighter, this further marginalizes his popularity as a belt holder. In my view he should be appritiated a little more than John Ruiz, which to be honest isnt saying much.
I don't think Toney's fans (the ones I've encountered) are fanatics. I'm one of his biggest fans as he's from my hometown, he is one talented motherfucker, and he is actually a pretty nice guy outside of that whole shit talking front he puts on (at least he was nice to me). Klit fans seem to have given Vitali the invincible label. When I consider a bout between Toney and Vit, I know that Vit could very well beat Toney with his strength and size advantages just like Toney could pull out the win against Vitali based on his experience and pure boxing skills. A lot of Klit fans I see write off many of his fights saying, "Vitali will destroy him in 6 rounds." I dunno...maybe I'm wrong, but that's just what I've gotten out of it. I like Vitali and think he's one of boxings good guys, but it's his fans who hurt others opinions of him.
This assesment is spot on. I think Toney fans really enjoy the vintage boxing skills that JT displays. Further, he has lost fights already so there is no expection of invincibility. He is just a great fighter to watch practice his craft. His sh*t talk is a little over the top sometimes but it makes him more exciting. I would like to repeat that I like the Klitchkos I just wish the fans would chill a little.
Many people seem to hate the Klits more because of their fanatical fan base. I have seen some really disturbing Klitschko bashing on other forums because the fans are somewhat irrational about their support. It may have something to do with "great white hope" syndrom. Personally I think Vitali is a good champ right now, a rematch with Byrd would answer a lot of questions. After that I would love to see Vitali/Toney, its so ridiculous its intreuging :D
yeah it's got to be corrales, would have been tarver if not for johnson doing the same thing
What about if Johnson beats Tarver.
I think he would have the best case for fighter of the year.
Depending on what happens in December...
the most deserving if they won would be
1. Danny Williams
2.Glen Johnson
3.Antonio Tarver
A good case
1.Chico Corrales
2. Erik Morales -if he beats Barrera
A lame case which is highly possible if no one else arises
1.Bernard Hopkins-- Sure his defences are legendary but his fights this year have been highly overrated.
There are several factors to keep in mind here.
1. Byrd hasnt looked that great latley, esspecially in terms of elusivness and high volume, fast combination punching.
2. Byrd has struggled with large men that can throw a decent strait shot.
3. McCline has no reason to be afraid of Byrd's power, only his elusivness, which seems to be declining.
4. McCline's confidence seems to be improving.
5. McCline is making very little money for this fight, he may be esspecially hungry for this fight.
These reasons alone give Big Time a chance of winning. I hope he does, I will rooting for him! ;)
Whoever compiled that linear page seems to hate RJJ, they left him out of every weight class he cleaned out... they even list James Toney as "vacating" the middleweight title in 1993 then it wasn't re-established until 2001 in Hopkins' name. What a joke. If memory serves me correctly, Roy Jones Jr masterfully outboxed the so-called unbeatable James Toney winning a 12 round unanimous decison to take the title. If that's "vacating" the title then I guess RJJ was just "vacating" the title when he got KTFO by Tarver & Johnson... heh.
Toney vacated the linear middle wieght title, this is true. But RJJ beat him at super middle, so Roy has a claim at being the liner super middle boss. At light heavy Darius M. beat Vigil hill before Roy did, Virgil was the linear LH champ and since Roy and Darius never fought Roy has no claim to that distinction, yes he may have been the Undisputed champion he was not the linear one.
