Who do you think is fighter of the year so far
Hopkins beat Allen and De la hoya
Spinks beat Judah and Gonzales
Ouma beat Candelo and Phillips
Diego Corrales as a candidate for beating Casamayor and making Freitas quit.
and there's more i just want to here what you guys think
Bump, bump :)
If Erik Morales would've just won over Barrera, he definitely would've been 2004's fighter of the year. After getting himself the WBC and IBF superfeatherweight belts, Barrera would've been the icing of the cake.
So finally, who deserves to be called 2004's Fighter of the Year?
IMO it's got to be Glen Johnson. He's got a magnificent run this year. Getting the IBF strap with a rematch win over Clinton Woods, destruction of Roy Jones Jr. and winning over another RJJ tormentor Antonio Tarver.
yeah it's got to be corrales, would have been tarver if not for johnson doing the same thing
What about if Johnson beats Tarver.
I think he would have the best case for fighter of the year.
If Oscar's second fight with Mosley was one of his great nights.....that's pathetic.
Oscar won the early rounds with movement & love taps against a tentative Mosley.
He then, as usual, got exhausted from his brand of wimpy boxing.....& faded terribly.
He was swept in the last four rounds......was getting walked down by a guy who Winky Wright walked THROUGH.....& was doubled over by body shots.
A lousy performance by Oscar.
You got me wrong! I didn´t mean that it was a great performance by Oscar, but it was a good one. He lost the first fight against Mosley, but I still think he should have given the decision in the second.
Depending on what happens in December...
the most deserving if they won would be
1. Danny Williams
2.Glen Johnson
3.Antonio Tarver
A good case
1.Chico Corrales
2. Erik Morales -if he beats Barrera
A lame case which is highly possible if no one else arises
1.Bernard Hopkins-- Sure his defences are legendary but his fights this year have been highly overrated.
The way Freitas fought shouldn't be a big problem as it was if Corrales knew how to cut the ring off. Corrales showed a good jab against Casamayor but the jab wasn't used against Freitas. The jab would of been his best weapon if he had used it whenever Freitas tried to come in and throw his punches. Yes Freitas moved alot but Corrales didn't even attempt to cut the ring off he just stood there and allowed Freitas to hit him at will.
Will you acknowledge that the way Freitas was fighting would be tough for ANYONE to handle ?
Here's the thing....a guy like Floyd Mayweather never has to worry about someone like Freitas, or even a Junior Witter, running all over the place. Nobody fears Floyd, so they'll always come to him...always play into his hands.
I guarantee soemeone wises up & runs from Floyd, you'll see Floyd looking kinda shitty for a while.
NOBODY looks good aginst a runner.
Corrales wasn't looking good, but he did the right thing & came up big in the end.
Corrales didn't do anything in that fight outside of the knockdowns that would make me call that a terrific performance. Corrales looked a bit frustrated at times and I do give him credit for staying in there and making Freitas quit but he still looked like the same Corrales that we saw before the Casamayor rematch. Speaking of the Casamayor rematch I thought Corrales lost that fight even though he improved alot and I didn't think he dominated the first 7 or 8 rounds like Al Bernstein said he did.
mic....
I think you're underestimating Corrales' performance against Freitas.
Freitas was fighting in a way that's tough to deal with. He was moving excessively, yet still throwing effective shots.
Credit to Corrales for not getting frustrated, & for also handling the big rights that Freitas was whipping into his jaw.
It was only natural that Freitas would tire, using that approach. Corrales was right there, with the power, once Freitas slowed down.
It was a terrific performance by Diego, IMO.
Spinksjinx, I wouldn't say Corrales dismantled Freitas. He made him quit but Corrales didn't really get to him until Freitas got tired and that is not a dismantling. I also don't agree with Delahoya for his effort. Alot of boxers fight opponents that they know they will lose to but still make the effort but that doesn't give them a shot at fighter of the year. Hopkins is probably going to win but I still say Morales if he beats Barrera.
Spinks....
Please....get Oscar off of there.
He basically lost his only two fights he had this year.
& EFFORT ?
The man went down on purpose against Hopkins.
He is a QUITTER !
Point taken, I forgot about the sturm debacle...I thought Oscar for a good 8 rounds w/ Bernard before folding under pressure though......
To many to list.
DLH-For his effort
Bernard-for his skills
Cory Spinks-Come on now he accomplished a lot.
Corrales-No mas, No more
Tarver/Johnson
Their are more to many to list....
I still think the most impressive was Diego Corrales dismantling of Freitas and making him quit.
