If you notice, Top Rank never talks about Pacquiao-Bradley, dismissing Bradley as being too unmarketable to promote in a bout with Pacquiao. While that may be true to an extent, Bradley also possesses certain qualities that make him a bad style matchup for Pacquiao in a rematch.
Personally, I think Bradley will be a tougher out for Pacquiao if they fight a second time. While I do believe Pacquiao won their first fight big, I also saw that Bradley was compromised by a freak ankle injury early on and was still able to outbox and outland Pacquiao for stretches of the fight.
That Pacquiao was unable to capitalize suggests that he isn't the same fighter he was in years past.
If you watch the video before Bradley twisted his ankle, He was running away from Pac because Pac was landing eight series of punches before the freak ankle injury happened. Watch the fight and open your eyes.
Hindi pwede, kasi Pacquiao-hater ako ;)
Of course, the video you showed was of an early round. Who knows what would've happened had the injury not occurred. What I do know is that this new "compassionate" Pacquiao will have trouble dealing with guys who know how to steal rounds and win close fights.
Pacquiao missed a golden opportunity to get a win over a high-profile, unbeaten fighter there. I don't like his chances in the rematch nearly as much as I did in their first fight.
It's tough to say. It's late at night here and I'm drawing a blank, even though I've seen a lot of fights live. Here are two that I remember. My fights aren't as memorable as the original poster's though.
Pacquiao-Marquez IV - A historic knockout, and an outrageous crowd. Time stopped when Pacquiao went down, and I remember each moment in slow-motion afterwards.
Hopkins-Murat - Sure, it wasn't Barrera-Morales, but the fans were enjoying what turned out to be a surprisingly good fight. Was incredible to witness Hopkins in the corner ducking and slipping Murat's shots, then beat him around the ring.
Andrade is just 25, has the deepest amateur pedigree in the division outside of Lara and is a big guy to boot. He will continue to improve I think, and will be one of the toughest guys to beat at 154 and 160 eventually.
His temperament may not endear him to fans of the Gatti-Ward action though, and it'll probably be hard for him to get opportunities as a defensive southpaw who isn't signed to one of the major promoters.
In a year, I think he'll be ready for anybody at 154. And not just ready to compete, he'll be ready to beat them.
I would've been more impressed if he had prevented David Haye and Dereck Chisora from rioting at his press conference. Then again, these protesters may have been more reasonable people.
That's the thing with boxing; sometimes you don't get a second chance so you better make the best of the first one. Matthysse got the opportunity of a lifetime and failed to beat Garcia. It was a fair decision win for Matthysse, nothing else you can do about that. Garcia deserves full credit for beating a guy many people thought would be too much for him.
Rematch? No way. It was a boring fight the first time around. Had Matthysse done a better job of pressing the action and made it fun to watch, people would want to see it again.
I'm guessing u never heard of paquiao promotions. I wonder why?
MP Promotions had one champ in Rodel Mayol, but generally yeah, they're pretty terrible.
Commentary is very influential in the way that fans perceive a fight, particularly when the fan isn't particularly confident in his own boxing knowledge.
Now I thought that Oscar was winning many of the early rounds in the Tito fight but agree that HBO was framing it like it was a one-sided drubbing when it wasn't. Many of the rounds could've gone either way.
I like to think of the commentary as being part of the entertainment, but I usually steer clear of allowing it to manufacture my perception of what is going on in the ring. With the newer crop of commentators, that is much easier to accomplish.
Why do you people are acting like its been confirmed that Pacquiao is looking to fight Cotto. You people always do this, every time some source not close to the situation, claim he heard such and such, you people act like its fact and run with it.You people havn`t learned from the:"Floyd is fighting Mathew Hatton next" claim,"Floyd is fighting Malingnaggi" claim,"Floyd is fighting Khan next" claim,Cotto is in negotiations with Martinez claim, etc.
Not close to the source? I spent weeks in the Pacquiao camp reporting on the daily happenings, wouldn't say I wasn't close.
Also, I said it was a consideration. My source probably knows a lot more about what will happen than you do.
Hey, shouldn't you be drunk on a Ferry somewhere in Hong Kong right now?
LOL just got back to Manila now. I had a few glasses of wine on the plane. This week will be a detox session.
Jim Lampley is the greatest play-by-play man of all-time in my opinion. He brings a great deal of excitement to every telecast that he's a part of. I always loved the balance he brought to Larry Merchant's sardonic interjections.
Of the newer batch, I enjoy Paulie Malignaggi's analysis, he's loquacious but doesn't waste words.
I'm really glad that Showtime brought back Barry Tompkins. It's good to hear him back calling relevant fights.
he's always looked like that.... he's just one those guys.. Morales, Mikey, Rios have never been ripped or muscular. That's just their body type
I never believed that Diaz is just one of those guys who doesn't have a good looking body. People said the same thing about Curtis Stevens when he was fighting as a super middle and light heavyweight, now look, he's a middleweight.
I think if Diaz got serious serious, he'd be cut up too. Saying that's his body type is a cop out.
Back on topic, no, I don't think he'll make noise at 140 pounds. They figured him out a long time ago, that he doesn't really have big power or the skills to keep guys off of him when he's overpowered. His work rate was his strongest asset, and that doesn't improve with age.
I've been in Manny's camp the whole time, he's looking sharp. He looks better at this point than he did at the end of the Bradley camp, which I also covered.
:biggthump Man that was some good stuff. Gerry still has some good footwork and moves.
I've honestly never seen anything like it. I couldn't see where the punches were coming from, and every time I threw something, he'd hit me with a punch I couldn't see. And the body shots, holy **** man, felt like flames were gonna shoot out of my ass lol
Respect man but when did you gain so much weight, did you get married or smth?
I've actually lost 30 or so, I put on weight when I came to the Philippines because life here is so relaxing. I'm going to be back in shape by Christmas.
ROFL, Gerry was working it there. Goes to show how badly us regular folk would get beat by any fighter, faded, retired or "bum" status.
I've sparred other champions and contenders like Mauricio Pastrana and Jair Jimenez, but Gerry P was just on another level. I really was lost in there, he'd slip out underneath a punch and I couldn't even find him.
Didn't even read it, but I'm sure it's saying how good Paquiao is doing. its all hype for the bookies, trust me.
If Pacquiao was getting his shi.t pushed in, do you really think the rags would be writing about it?
I'm the writer of the story, and in the past I've reported when Pacquiao has struggled in sparring, most notably against Ruslan Provodnikov for the first Bradley fight and against Fredrick Lawson for the Rios fight
Hype for the bookies? I don't gamble. Not my thing.
Yes, Manny only has one sparring partner in GenSan, but there are others waiting in LA who will be tough outs for Manny. Pacquiao has looked exceptional in training.
I watched Pacquiao spar Lydell Rhodes here in the Philippines, he looked good.
As far as recording sparring, that is inappropriate, no one is ever allowed to record sparring as it gives away strategy.
One of our own? lol
I love Scully but its not like he's a regular poster who just got a shot to train someone. He was in the game way before he was on boxing scene. This is not like Asian Sensation. Still, Scully is probably the cooliest cat on this site. Always open and responds to everything. Good luck to him & Dawson
John Scully is the man. I respect a guy who is down to Earth enough to play around with people. He was calling me names long before I was a writer.
Good interview, Andy Lee comes across as a classy and down-to-earth kinda guy. I'll be rooting for him and hopefully he's tightened up his defense from his last fight where he got hit an awful lot against Craig Mcewan.
Thanks, Andy Lee is a very nice guy from my experiences with him, and there is zero pretense in him. He makes for exciting fights, no doubt about it, but sometimes exciting isn't a good thing for him.
Why not? Lee's a bonafide mw contender; it's a worthwhile matchup...
There really isn't anyone interesting for Martinez to fight at middleweight. If he gets past Barker, at least we've seen Andy Lee before and don't need to be completely briefed on who he is like we would with Peter Quillin, who hasn't been in a big TV spot yet.
My proposal would be Matthew Macklin vs. Andy Lee, winner gets Martinez.
good for monte barrett.as the colonel bob sheridan would say"he's one of the really nice guys of the sport".its cool to hear that the WWE will let him do both sports & promote his future boxing fights on WWE telecasts.david tua should follow him.i mean the somoans from the old wrasslin days are his relatives
What'd you think of his promo skills?
