After losses in 2 of his last four fights and the last UD loss to Juan Manual Marquez he took almost 3 years off. With two straight wins by TKO over Pipino Cuevas Jr. and Adation De Jesus Juan Baby Bull is taking on his third fight since 2010 Juan Santiago 14-10 with 8 KO's. He has returned as a Junior Welter Weight, at 140 there are a ton of fights out there. With Broner and now Garcia moving up to welter weight there is room on top of the division and possible lucrative match ups. Does anyone else see Juan making noise in 2014?
Juan Diaz is ranked #1 by the WBO at 135lbs
The WBO also sanctioned a fight between
#5 Stephen Ormond vs #9 Terry Flanagan as an eliminator fight
I think the WBO will sanction a 2nd elimination fight and Diaz might be fighting in the 2nd eliminator he just needs to fight one of the top 4 ranked lightweights
#2 Anthony Crolla is injured
#3 Takahiro Aoh
#4 Paulus Moses
So winner of Ormond vs Flanagan fights Winner of Diaz vs Aoh or Moses for vacant WBO title and I think Diaz beats everyone I've mentioned above
He has always looked like that because he literally fights at his walk around weight. He needs someone to push him and those guys he has aint gonna do that...how do I know? Because we both attended the University of Houston and saw each other on a regular basis.
He doesn't workout that hard.
Was it Juan that never did road work? Only the treadmill, I am almost positive that was him.
Alright he's had 5 tune-ups since his comeback. It's time for him to get a big fight.
Agreed!!! I think he does not have any deals with a network like he did in the past. Also who is promoting him at this point?
He will beat Figueroa, mark my words.:cool2:
Hes 5-0 against less than A level fighters in his comeback. He fought 3 times in 2013 ans 2 times in 2014. I always enjoyed his fights with his mom screaming in the back round.
he's always looked like that.... he's just one those guys.. Morales, Mikey, Rios have never been ripped or muscular. That's just their body type
I never believed that Diaz is just one of those guys who doesn't have a good looking body. People said the same thing about Curtis Stevens when he was fighting as a super middle and light heavyweight, now look, he's a middleweight.
I think if Diaz got serious serious, he'd be cut up too. Saying that's his body type is a cop out.
Back on topic, no, I don't think he'll make noise at 140 pounds. They figured him out a long time ago, that he doesn't really have big power or the skills to keep guys off of him when he's overpowered. His work rate was his strongest asset, and that doesn't improve with age.
Just rewatched his ko loss to Marquez a few weeks ago. Hell of a war that was. He isn't top level, and will be worse since is older now and doesn't stay in shape (ever) but hes fun to have around.
Maybe. If he hires a real strength and conditioning coach and a real trainer.
The ones he has now are a joke, just look at his body!:nonono:
He'd be a force if be got with the right team!
Alex Ariza where are you??)
Can't wait for Diaz vs Omar Figueroa, it's coming. :boxing:
I really hope it gets made. I actually think Diaz can beat him
His career as a lawyer didn't work out?
he's in the trucking business now. Infact I heard this comeback was so he could get additional funds to help his business out. Not sure how true that is though
He's looked surprisingly good in his comeback.
Watch the first round of his last fight. It looks like he's shaken off the ring rust
@2:45
He is still massively open to shots still, drops his hands from his chin with every shot and loads up on every shot also. He will get picked to pieces by guys that time him and throw when he throws hes also a counter punchers dream apart from the fact he wasn't throwing singles.
Can't wait for Diaz vs Omar Figueroa, it's coming. :boxing:
Yeah, I heard that's the plan. Oscar said he wanted Diaz to take a few tuneups before making it happen. I personally think Diaz whoops Omar in a war.
Both his comeback fights have been at 135, he wants to be the "King of the Lightweights" again.
good for him. saw a little bit of that fight maniac posted. he looks good.
i remember him retiring really young. but I've seen on boxrec that he's fought twice this year and scheduled for another i had no idea he came back. he was fun to watch and had a bright future till he got outclassed by jmm. what weight is he fighting at?
